Disappointing Game | 5:58 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
I played hookey from work to watch that game? The only thing that was worse than how this game was played was the color commentary from Reno Mahe. Sure hope the 5A championship game provides a higher quality show or I'm going to turn my sights to 3A football next year. And why didn't Alta use timeouts at the end, anyone know?
Reno Mahe | 6:11 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
I agree 1000% Reno sounds like he has his mouthpiece in. He adds nothing to the came. Alema is not much better.

Alta was weak today. Their running game was horrible! How many times are you going to run that draw?

Then all of those dropped passes.

Child please!
West Sider | 6:18 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
It was an entertaining game, although it was sloppy. They are high school kids, after all. It is good to see the west side win against the breakoff Canyons School District.

Disappointing maybe if your Alta | 6:18 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
I'll take the win as a Miner any day of the week. 2 great teams are bound to play sloppy when both are making plays on both sides of the ball. Hand the trophy to Bingham now! GO MINERS!!!
Anonymous | 6:23 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
just one correction it wasnt logan cantwell ha ha he graduated like 5 years ago
Anonymous | 6:35 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
I hope either Hunter or Davis kills Bingham... they do not deserve the trophy. No... I actually want it to be a close game so that the miners can actually taste the trophy.. and then choke like they did last year and not get their win.. man that would be awesome!!.
UHSAAwannabe | 6:49 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
This game proves the point that state tournament seeding is a bad idea. Would you like this yuck game for the championship game. It doesn't matter anyway whether the two supposedly best teams play in the quarter, semis, or finals. One of the teams is going to lose anyway. Only one team will go undefeated during tournament play so it doesn't matter at what point in the tournament they play.
Hunter/Bingham will be a better game.
Just a thought.
plyxply | 6:57 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
congrats to Bingham, they were ready and played well. I thought it would take a bit to get used to Alta's speed and it took two drives, but only one score. From there on after Alta missed the kicks it was a mistake fest where kids who typically make plays didn't. We're proud of you Hawks, you were part of another great season is what is becoming a tradition of excellence at Alta. It's a good thing Bingham is around or we'd be spoiled and think that the life was too easy, because Bingham keeps us real. I thought both coaches had great moments, and there were a few things that didn't work, but in reality the players won and lost the game on the field.
Player of the game had to be Bingham's qb, what a stud and great play calling and patience in getting that extra blocker on the Alta lb's. That was the difference in the game I thought. Good luck Bingham, go finish this off.
Next Year | 6:58 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Good job both teams....there were bound to be some mistakes in this championship game. Bingham now has to wait a week to pick up the hardware. Might as well give Bingham the trophy now for next year too with that killer crop of juniors they have coming back. They will be unbeatable. 5A teams better eat their Wheaties over the summer.
Re: Anonymous | 7:34 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Bingham doesn't deserve the trophy? Yet they are undefeated in the state of Utah. Hmmmmm, might wanna re-think that one buddy.
Tim | 7:57 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Bingham beat Alta and Alta beat Timpview so Bingham is definitely the top team n the state. Hunter or Davis will not get by the Miners
re: Tim | 8:45 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Timpview is much better team than it was at the beginning of the season. If Timpview plays Alta now, TV wins. And they give Bingham a run too.
fan | 8:51 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
the college goal posts are about 3 feet narrower and much higher than the high school posts. The effect is they seem much more narrow. I think that it throws the kickers off a bit.
Re:re: Tim | 8:45 p.m. Nov. 13,  | 9:02 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
TV is really good right now, Peaking at the right time. But in all reality Bingham is a Better team and has proven it all year Long. I am a CW parent who thought TV was the best Team in the State last year and in 07. Bingham is the best this year as they have yet to lose to any Utah Team. Davis will give them a run next week as they are also Peaking and playing very good football right now. Good Luck to both teams next week on a Great Championship Game.
bingham watcher | 9:07 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
this group of boys played together as a team. last year there wasnt team unity. glad to see the dnews team not spot lighting one boy week after week like last year there was nobody else out there on the field but since they lost last year it goes to show you ...great teams are teams and not indivduals!!
ed | 9:09 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
bingham had more talent last year and still lost!! good luck bingham
nostradomis | 9:26 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Davis is peaking at the right time, as was Hunter. PG seemed to fizzle towards the end of the season. Should be a very good game between 2 teams w a lot of talent. Davis/Bingham 21 to 17, scores could be lower, two very good defensive teams, but also w a lot of offensive talent. My prediction Darts win it in a big shocker......

COMMENTING ON RENO MAHE IS A CHEAP SHOT, THAT WAS HIS FIRST TIME ON THE RADIO. DID YOU EVER PLAY FOOTBALL? MAYBE HIGH SCHOOL OR AT ANY UNIVERSITY,HOW ABOUT AT THE NFL. UNTIL YOU DO,PLEASE DO NOT MAKE NEGATIVE COMMENT ON THOSE WHO HAVE PLAY THE GAME MOST OF THEIR LIFE. WHY DON'T YOU GET ON THE RADIO AND LET SEE WHAT YOU SOUND LIKE, ALEMA IS A ANOTHER STORY.
pop | 9:41 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
i have to say Reno Mahe is probably the worse commentator i have hear even worse than Tarkington
Re Pop | 10:15 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Whats wrong with him? At least he knows what he is talking about. If a player does something good, he talks about them. He doesnt just focus on the teams star player and beat a dead horse with it
Region 4 RIP | 10:22 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Early projections (from region 4 fans) were putting at least three region 4 teams in the semis (and hinted at four if Jordan could pull the round 1 upset). They virtually guaranteed two teams in the finals. Alas, only one region 4 team made the semis and none get to the title game. It's an interesting end to the season for the great region 4.

No doubt, some one will feel compelled to comment that they were just so good they beat each other up before playoffs. In retrospect, that would be an interesting contrast to many of the posts that claimed Alta's tough region games down the stretch had made them better prepared than Bingham for this game.

Now Bingham is 4-0 against region 4 including two wins over Alta. Maybe Bingham could lay claim to being Region 4 champs. Nah!
fan | 11:02 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Region 4 has some very good teams. Some of those teams had injuries to key players at critical times. PG has a good team but had some bad timing with the injuries. LP lost played a classic game at Hunter. Too bad someone had to lose. Jordan has a wonderful passing attack. Brighton was the best team in the state not to make it to the playoffs. Alta is a great team. Bingham managed to win but I wouldn't say that they dominated Alta.

If Bingham isn't prepared and bring their game next week, Davis is very capable of upsetting them. That being said, Davis's running game kind of plays into Bingham's strengths.

This time of year everyone is nicked up a bit, sometimes a lot. Some programs are lucky not to have their critical players injured and some have a little more depth so they can handle it better. In 5A there were lots of outstanding teams this year. It takes a little luck with the injury bug and perhaps a few lucky bounces of the ball as well as a lot of hard work to be the state champ.

I like reno as a commentator. I think he brings a good insight to the game and is relaxed and natural.
For Mahe | 11:25 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Mahe has brought some life to the game by being in the booth. He knows the game and speaks football language which is much needed by high school commentators. I likewise find him to be non-biased, he simple speaks his mind and says it like it is. He doesn't have a dog in the fight, he simply calls it like he see's it and he makes it fun to watch and listen too. Keep it up Reno!
Anonymous | 11:34 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
I've said this so many times before! This bingham team has not lost a game against utah teams in high school yet. They never have and they never will! They've got one game to go and they're going to win, it's the championship game and they're coming to play.
Region 4 Fan! | 11:56 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Region 4 was maligned with injuries down the stretch. The Hausknecht kid from Alta is their best defensive player and blew his knee. Lone Peak was missing two of their best players in the Hunter game, P.G. had 2 or 3 good players missing also, and Heimuli for Brighton was hobbled up pretty bad down the stretch. All key players for the schemes they run, so yes we did pound on each other.
Who Cares | 12:05 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Who cares if Bingham was not perfect today, or if they were sloppy. Bottom line they beat the Hawks for the second time this year and Bingham moves on. The Hawks go home. Why would anyone, including Bingham, overlook Davis. This is for the ring and Davis has played well all year.
My first high school game | 12:13 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
I have never been to a Utah high school game before as I am not from the state. My first one was this game. I thought it was a good game with two talented teams.

I was sad to read from the "poor sport" Alta fans who commented at the top of this board. Why they have to spout off like 6 year olds, I don't know.

I think I will be a Bingham fan after hearing their comments. Wouldn't want that kind of negativity to rub off on me or other fans from out of state. Thanks for helping me with my decision.

Just wanted to congratulate Bingham! Alta Bingham rivalry is awesome!
I think the best team did win but I really think Alta's play calling hurt their game today. Alta played the fourth qt. like they had the lead. No sense of urgency, running when u haven't had success all night with it, and having two unused timeouts left? Even going for two after the last score was a bad move!
Not the best night for Hamilton. I expected better.
One more game Bingham! U haven't got the trophy yet so prepare hard next week! This has been a great season to watch!
Timpview vs. 5A | 2:52 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Ok... I just want to make a point... Yes, I do believe Timpview is better at this point in the season than they were at the beginning when they played Alta. I am a Timpview fan and have been paying attention to them all season long. BUT.... Timpview had their chance to prove that they could compete with/beat the big time 5A schools... Lo and behold, they couldn't win. That isn't to say they aren't good. They simply had their chance and all the other Timpview fans out there CANNOT say that Timpview "would beat Bingham or Alta". Cause it was PROVEN wrong. Maybe Timpview over the previous 2 years could've done it. But also, we'll never know... Therefore, Timpview fans... Please quit embarrassing me by saying Timp could beat Bingham/Alta. From one fan to another...
Injuries & Region 4 | 5:00 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
I have been real nice, but I can't take it anymore. I am so sick of reading about the injury excuses from the Region 4 teams. Give me a break. Bingham had injuries all year, we just don't comment all day like the Region 4 crybabies.

We played the last 2 games w/o our leading tackler and sack leader. We lost a star RB the week before the season. (Real Alta fans know this, and sorry he is not transferring this year either). Our 300 lb tackle was hurt before the TX game and missed several games after. Our team captain MLB out several games. Starting Corner broke his leg in two spots in the 7 on 7s. Anderson missed a few including Riverton. Another starting LB was lost for the season in the CW game, another LB hurt for most of the season just got back for the playoffs. Several WR missed time. I am sure there are several I am missing.

Bingham is very deeo and instead of running up the score, they played reserves and the backups were prepared when needed. Scoreboard. Region 4 champs and soon to be State Champs.
RE:Region 4 Fan! | 11:56 p.m. No | 5:06 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Bingham beat Alta with Hausknecht earlier. Here we go Region 4 and their excuses. Come on Alta, you are better than that. Don't become PG FAN and start making excuses about injuries.

You're correct - If you're from out of town and looking for a school to root for, shying away from Alta is the right move. I've never seen a worse group of fans. I wasn't rooting for Bingham to win, just Alta to lose.

fan | 7:11 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
I am not a bingham fan and this state championship is tainted. How can you allow a an athlete on your team that played for another school for 4 weeks and transfer mid season and play wew is the ethics. There 15 new move-ins from other schools that should be contributing to the schools they came from IE: west jordan, hunter, kearns, and cottonwood. Bingham you have modeled yourself just like skyline.
re: first high school game | 7:39 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Not sure what you are reading that made you think Alta fans are cry babies. They aren't. They have as much respect for Bingham as Bingham does for Alta. I have been to the last nine straight Bingham/Alta contests and they are the best games in the state. period. Two classy programs with great coaches and great fan bases. Sure, there are a couple fans that whine afterward. The same happened from Bingham last year when Alta won. But overall, either program is great to support. As for me, I am an Alta fan first, even though I don't have a son that played football for them. But I cheer for Bingham whenever they don't play Alta. I think you will find the same on both sides of the field.
Wildcat | 7:40 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Congratulations to Bingham. I am a huge Alta fan. But Bingham is the best team in this state this year. I wasn't able to go to the game but I listened to it on the radio. It sounds like both teams gave it there all. Good luck to Bingham next week.

Just to let you know Alta lost to Brighton and Bingham. Who did Bingham lose to ?? oh yea Trinity and where is Trinity oh yea Texas so umm it looks like Atla lost twice to Bingham. Bingham is going to take state and they will not choke at all, they will crush Davis.
Winning | 8:16 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Feels great, because you've worked so hard to achieve your goals and when they come to fruition there is nothing more satisfying.

Yet, winning isn't everything! Throughout life there will always be winners and loser, and because of that fact coaches, parents, and players need to find something greater than just winning to play for!

Coaches, please reflect on your attitudes toward those people you have an influence on. Players build loyalty and camaraderie with your teammates and coaches, and finally parents please support the coaches and your players with constant love and compassion.

These things sound easy, and yet so many people struggle with them.

What a bitter, spiteful little thing you are. The timing of your hateful little rant makes me think you’re an Alta fan. No matter the score, Alta played with intensity, strength and a dignity someone like you will never know. They’ll reload and come back hard next season. To use a phrase so popular this year, mark my words.
Bingham has played well against the best Utah has and won every time. If anyone wants to mention the Trinity game, I'll reiterate. Bingham has beaten every team FROM UTAH that they've played. Bingham has earned the right to play for the title.
Davis has also done well, winning their region championship and beating a good Hunter team by a wide margin yesterday. They, too, have earned the right to play for the title next week.
Inside Man | 8:41 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Let me set the record straight and say that none of the Bingham coaching staff or the players are overlooking davis this week, and that is a fact. davis is a good team and Bingham knows it! They will prepare and focus as hard as they did against alta.
Anonymous | 8:47 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
I'm just glad that game wasn't the "real" state championship like so many of the Alta/Bingham fans were calling it beforehand. It was an ugly game to this outsider and my guess is that next week is the TRUE State Championship featuring the 2 best teams in the 5A rankings.
Injuries | 9:48 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Agreed that all teams have injuries, so let's not just concentrate on the missing Region 4 teams'. Example: the Bingham team, eliminating two of the power-4 teams in these playoffs, has at least three starting defenders that are no longer playing due to injury.
Depth and planning for those changes is part of the game. Sometimes you have to do it during the game and others during the week.
Talent, skill, and then depth of that talent is what is primary key to all sports, but especially in high school. After that, it is coaching, preparation, adjustments, and execution. That part is where the region 4 powerhouses missed their spots this year. Sorry, but quite obvious if their touted talent was so beyond their opponents. It's Region 1 & 3, the two so-called weakest regions, who put their top teams in the game, by beating threee of the four region 4 teams. You have to beat the best to be the best.
Bingham's Talent | 9:53 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Bingham's got a lot of talent for having a bunch of Juniors and sophomores. There whole front 7 on defense are all juniors, their running backs are juniors and their are a couple of sophomores stepping up as well and I am very impressed with how they are playing this year. As far as the Alta game they did a great job in the red zone and showed a lot of strength and team unity. Great game and good luck next week.
Anonymous | 9:57 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Region 4 beat the crap out of each other, while Bingham played a soft schedule most of the season. They lost to Trinity from Texas because they weren't prepared to play in the big leagues. If there was a game I would pay to watch is Bigham against PG with no injuries on both sides. Who did Bingham play other than Trinity and Alta. Taylorsville, Riverton, Kearns and AF, Viewmont???? I would give anything to have Bingham run the gaultlant against PG, LP, Alta and Brighton.
Brighton beat Alta soundly with Hemuli playing, PG beat Brighton without Heimuli, Lone Peak beat Brighton with Heimuli. PG lost to Lone Peak and Alta without Lloyd, Tagoa'i and Sampson. Also fogotton was that PG lost 2 linemen during the first part of the season and started a Sophomores there. Lone Peak lost to Hunter without their top receiver and lost ther QB in the game. Alta lost their best play maker period and only lost to Bingham by a combined 13 points in 2 games. Brighton could have given any and all teams a run for their money if only Heimuli played in the loss to PG and West Jordan.
