IF ONLY | 1:04 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Charlie could have been there to show everyone how he would have done it, the whole thing would have never happened.

Yeah right.

Very few things are as vile as a pundit who feasts on the tragedy of someone else.

It seems as though someone has an issue with Charles Krauthammer, and it's obvious it isn't the content of his article.

Still much to learn  | 5:01 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Hindsight is always 20/20.
Hassan had been in the military for many years, even before 9/11 without attacking his fellow soldiers. So, it isn't that unusual for people to be looking at a variety of factors that might've led Hassan to mass murder. We (the public) don't have all the facts--some of it protected by Dr./patient privilege. Hopefully "we" will learn from the mistakes that might've been made in regard to Hassan and do better in the future. But we shouldn't be so lazy as to assume every Muslim is a terrorist, not when there are 1.5 billion Muslims in the world. It has been reported that meetings about Hassan took place with the chief of psychiatry at Walter Reed, the chairman of the Psychiatry Department at USUHS, the assistant chair of the Psychiatry Department and director of Hasan's psychiatry fellowship, another assistant chairman of psychiatry at USUHS, another psychiatrist, and the director of the psychiatric residency program at Walter Reed.
PC Run Amuck | 12:20 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
In my opinion seeing his mental and social problems for what they were was a result of Political Correctness run amuck.

His colleagues who taught him and worked with him as he was being trained as a doctor would not allow themselvs to SEE what was going on, or even if they did see it... they couldn't say anything about it because that could be seen as "intolerance", "Religious Profiling", "Racial profiling", "Cultural intolerance", etc.

Maybe they just assumed that it was "Normal" for a person of his religious and coultural background to have these responses? I don't know.

I'm not a doctor but I can imagine it's very hard to recognize psychopathic personalities, anti-social tendencies, psychosis, etc. Especially in a collegue, especially one of a different cultural background than yours.

The signs were obviously there. But I think his collegues felt obligated to overlook them (or tolerate them) because they just saw him as "Different". On the other hand... we don't want people to start over-reacting and seeing everyone who is "different" as a potential mas-murderer like Hassan.

20x20 hindsight makes it look easier than it actually was.
