The proposal is an additional cost? The proposal would be lower than paying the "retiree" a salary and retirement and 401(k) contribution.

If most teachers were paid what they were really worth they would be making 65 cents an hour and be lucky to make that much. Glorified babysitters.

Yeah, but at least they are state "qualified", "certified", and "degree'd", for whatever that's worth.

the wages of a babysitter. I'd make more than I do now.

Then, also expect the same results as from a babysitter....the child is alive at the end of the day, but no more intelligent or skilled.

What's a babysitter make these days, $3/hr.? Times 6 hours per day = $18. Utah classes have 30+ students, so that's $18 x 30 = $540 per day. Times 180 days = $97,200. Wait, maybe babysitter wages are too much.

Some of you people ought to try teaching for a day or two. Baby sitter.... Yes, and still teach them something.... Bet you wouldn't last the day.

By the way... I am not a teacher, but I have volunteered in the schools. I really appreciate the teachers... You ought to try it before you criticize.

There is a whole line of people, who would like your job.
Many college graduates, think you have a pretty good job, with good pay, and exceptional benefits.
If you no longer love your job: QUIT
You will be doing your students a favor.

Wow, some of you are quite critical of teachers. I have serious criticisms of our public school SYSTEM, but the problem is usually not the teachers. The majority of school teachers are good, dedicated, hard-working people.
