Thanksgiving | 3:34 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Besides getting worked up with the two holidays crashing into one another, can't we at least remember that it is "Thanksgiving" and not, "Turkey Day" that separates the two?

What we really need in between these two time-consuming holidays, is a day to actually focus on giving thanks and gratitude--not just another day to indulge one's self.

Remember, what we call something, identifies its purpose; Thanksgiving should receive its full due.

I refuse to decorate for Christmas or play Christmas songs until at least the day after Thanksgiving.

What? No Control? | 8:57 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
The writer says she wishes she could ignore the meshing of the two holidays. (Sorry, I'm not gonna by ployed into her silly name-combo game. Seems like she's hoping it will pick up and become the new 'trendy term!')

She says she wishes she could avoid it, but gives in. All I can say is, what a wimp!

I certainly don't give in to the commercialism! I refuse to buy anything Christmas-themed before Halloween and I refuse to decorate or play Christmas music before Thanksgiving.

If more folks stopped supporting the retailers, we wouldn't have this mindless melding going on! Really, now. You ARE in control!

I LOVE Christmas! But I also LOVE Thanksgiving! What has me dismayed is that each year Thanksgiving seems to be getting more and more commercialized. In my mind, it's the last, untouched, pure and simple heartfelt holiday left. No cards, no gifts, no pressures other than getting family together and putting a turkey on the table. And, of course, giving thanks for one's many blessings! And I'm doing my best to keep it that way!

And the author could, too, if she really wanted to!

Agreed!! | 11:30 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
I agree wholeheartedly with everything that has been ssid so far! Thanskgiving is just as important (if not more) as the rest of the holidays this time of year! everyone is so caught up in themselves around Christmas and Halloween time that they don't even have time to give thanks for all their blessings and everything that they have. It is such a shame to see the demoralization and loss of respect this country is encountering. Our founding fathers would surely roll over in their graves if they knew of all the plundering and heartache that is happening to the country they founded long ago, one that was founded on principle and dignity, courage and honor!

I totally agree...this year the Christmas stuff was out even BEFORE HALLOWEEN at some stores!
They took Thanksgiving away, now let's work on Halloween. Then maybe the fourth of July.

I hate it.

ROFL!!! But I agree. It doesn't seem like Christmastime until you're watching the Macy's parade, and Santa rides into Harold Square on his sleigh.

No. Utah sees a major earthquake every 350 years. Last one? 350 years ago.
