12:45pm, I drove past it just after it happened.

I was right about at 9000 S when it happened so I didn't get hung up for long. I saw a car pulling over to the side of the road (I assume this was the second accident) with the front end of his car smashed and fluids spilling everywhere. First crash looked horrific.

That is too sad, someone's carlesness, takes away from another. This is sad. Condolenseces to the family of the fatality.

What a shame. Aggressive driving, tailgating and speeding really take their toll! When we travel the speed limit, we get passed as though we were standing still! How about a little more courtesy??

Good thing I'm going north tonight.

I was caught in the middle of this. I did not see the accident happen, but was caught in the aftermath. It was a horrible scene. One that I wish I could forget. Whatever caused this man to do this, I cannot even imagine. I truly do feel sorry for this mans family. Something must of made him snap.

Before all of you start judging the man, perhaps you should wait to find out what the investigation shows. He may well have had a medical condition such as low blood sugar (diabetic) and been unaware of what was happening.

...when you'll be the person with the medical condition that causes an accident that changes lives or the person that is innocently involved in something like this. My heart aches for all. No one can pass judgement on another. My husband and I were also "caught in the back-up" of traffic..after finding out that a life if lost and families are changed forever because of it..your perspective changes, doesn't it? ...at least I think it should. If not..re-think your compassion for your fellow man.

My wife made a suicide attempt a few months ago by overdosing. Did I speed as fast as I could to the hospital to make sure she got help? Dang straight! Nobody knows why the guy was speeding. Believe it or not, there are legitimate reasons.

@ “you never know.”

Yes perspectives do change, for about a “New York minute.” Then the whole thing resorts back to irresponsible, lackadaisical, inattentive-hazardous driving. Not to be insensitive (I am not), this accident (while not insignificant), is one of hundreds of accidents that will take place for years to come on our roads.

For blameless observers (and would be victims), an old mistranslated Islamic idiom comes to mind: “Trust Allah, but tie up your camel.” In other words, sure, God is in charge, but you have to guard yourself in addition. Follow all road rules. Keep a suspicious eye on all other vehicles. By this, you just might survive out there.

I often ride motorcycle, which is dangerous. Such requires me to keep a vigilant mind on all vehicle behavior ahead of me, along side, and approaching at rear. My failure in this could doubtlessly result in me being next accident victim.

P.S.: Recently, I’ve noticed increased police officer presence on the roads. According to the news report there were numerous accidents and near accidents, yet no officers in chase for a stretch of miles. This does appear like a driver impairment issue.

Perhaps your speedometer is not calibrated properly. When was the last time you had it calibrated?

People, PLEASE stop judging. I know the victim and I know he has no problem with drugs or suicidal tendencies. He beat cancer to only die in a horrific manner. I know that he has had some serious problems because of a relapse of his cancer and complications of that likely caused him to drive how he was. My theory is a stroke. Every one is different and it is possible that he was suffering from one before he even got in the car. Don't jump to conclusions and condemn one of the most calming, stable people I have ever known.

My thoughts and prayers are with his grieving family and son on a mission. I can't imagine the pain they are going thru.

my, my so many experts ready to pass judgement on someone you never knew, sad!

My condolences to his family, and to those who were injured in related collisions.

Please people...wait until the investigation is completed before jumping to conclusions.

The authorities are leaning toward a medical condition being the cause. How about giving them the chance to complete the investigation and make their report?
Grateful | 6:01 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
I'm grateful to know this man's wife and to know he's a wonderful person. I'm grateful for the fact that there were not more lives added to this accident. I'm grateful for those comments that were kind and now I'm more grateful than ever for my loved ones.

Stop judging!!! No one knows what actually happened. It is extremely sad that he died. Things happen that people can't control. I am extremely sad for the family and know how it really really hurts to lose a loved one.

A wonderful father and husband died in this tragic accident. Please stop judging before you know the whole story. My heart goes out to the family and to anyone that may have been hurt. Life is fragile.
Legitimate reasons? | 2:01 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I am seriously concerned for the poster who stated that there are "legitimate reasons" for speeding, especially in light of this horrific accident. It is NEVER acceptable to put your life and the lives of others in danger like that!
Confirmed | 3:44 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
It looks like it was a stroke that paralyzed him and he lost control.

My condolences go out to his family at this very trying time. May God be with you.
Dear Confirmed | 3:53 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Was it a stroke? When you put 'confirmed' I'm wondering if you know that for sure?? Condolences to his wife and family. So sad.

Elder Taylor, son of the deceased, is an outstanding young man and missionary serving in our stake in Texas. God bless this exceptional young man, his mother and two siblings, who now grieve the loss of a father and husband (until they meet again). And thank heaven that nobody else was injured.
