Banks get our money to bail them out and we get the shaft again.

What happens between now and July 1. That's a long time and in the meantime credit care companies have been using their extended time before credit card reform goes into effect to increase interest rates and reduce credit lines. So what's likely to happen now with debit cards? The Senate Democrats have been putting pressure on the Federal Reserve to take away some of their power so it seems interesting that the Federal Reserve comes out with something that sounds good but in effect really won't mean much if Senate Democrats get their way and ignore this gesture, but maybe it will work to to derail increased efforts to control bank profit taking.
Be careful consumers.. | 8:57 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Depending on how this law is written it will most likely require a written notification by the consumer to opt in to stop overdraft coverage. In other words, if you don't notify your debit card company you will still be charged the fees. Also remember that these fees and overdraft charges are coming from your after tax incomes. I hear people complain about being over taxed but willingly pay hundreds of dollars a year to credit and debit account fees.

The sad part is that most of these companies are headquartered in foreign countries and you can't contact them. Part of the deliberate consumer avoidance system. Bill collectors who receive payments cannot accept notifications to changes in the accounts.

The consumer that spends with no regard to what he has in his account deserves every fee he is charged. The best way to avoid bank abuse altogether is go cash or checking so you can keep track of your spending. Internet and PC banking is never current on a daily basis or use and some times can take days or weeks to be accurate.

we've had the option on overdraft fees all along. If you don't want the fee, DON'T OVERDRAW YOUR ACCOUNT! It's real simple.

To those of you wanting to stick it to the banks, how are they going to be able to repay TARP money if they fail? Don't cut of your nose to spite your face.
