Devils rule! Predicting a big upset and a state title for Springville next week
I Wonder Why | 5:58 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Why is it that Dixie or any other team for south of Utah County has to come all the way to Salt Lake City to play in the final or semi final rounds of the playoffs.

Why cannot they play at Thunderbird Stadium in Cedar City?

Makes one wonder, the same as the recruiting that goes on in some schools.
Anonymous | 6:06 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Dixie - nothing to be ashamed of. You represented Southern Utah well.
Go Springville | 6:08 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
12/31...Ouch. Maybe the suspension might have been a good thing. Way to go Springville! Nice win.
Play calling | 6:40 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Not saying that Dixie would have won but the play calling for Dixie was abysmal,Dixie is a running team and Sharp is not a good passing QB,so what was with all the pass plays called in the first half? You outsmarted yourself Dixie.
RE: I Wonder Why | 6:42 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Because the entire state is up here. And there are only a handful of schools down south. Sorry, but majority always rules.
RE Wonder Why | 6:43 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Learn to put a sentence together....WOW!

Makes one wonder, is public education system that good?
State of the Utahn | 6:50 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Impressive, Red Devils.

What's the commentary on Class 4A football if Springville, of all teams, is the 2nd-best (or better) team in the state? It makes me sad to be a Utah County High School graduate.

Dixie | 6:55 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Be a gracious loser. You talk smack the whole week before the game. Then after you complain that the game was not played down south. Come on, you played on one of the best fields in Utah.
southern utah usual blah | 7:13 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
really? I guess it's difficult to be considered the "little brother" to the Wasatch Front.
Re: I Wonder Why | 7:26 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Dixie and all the other 4A schools down south get to play against a bunch of 3A teams in region play?

I also wonder why Dixie was a #1 seed in the 4A playoffs when they lost the region outright to Hurricane (a 3A school)?

I also wonder why a player that is ejected gets reinstated when supposedly coaches and players are not allowed protest such calls?

AND lastly, I wonder why people down south whine so much?

I guess everyone has a lot of unanswered questions...
Dixie | 7:58 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Good job Flyers, you've represented Southern Utah well, you are a class act. Southern Utah has either made it to the championship or the semi-finals since we've made the transition up to 4A. It just goes to prove that we can compete with the big schools, although we don't have their budget!!!! Go Flyers!
traveling | 8:08 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
I am not from the south but I think if the people up north had to travel down south every year for the semi's and the finals they would complain a little also. Sometimes compromise might be a good option. Besides, I don't think it is just the south that complains. I hear plently of complaining coming from up north also. There are always a few people who are never happy about anything.
Location, location, location | 9:16 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Any coach can tell you that there is something to be said about having your players sleep in their own beds the night before a game. Don't forget the fan support that attends the game either. Congratulations to Springville on a great win. Dixie, nice job of representing Region 9.

Great job Dixie!! You represented Region 9 in great fashion. We are all proud of you down here in Dixie. Onward and upward Region 9!!
#1 Seed, Ejection and Whining | 10:10 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
If Dixie had enough 4A teams down south or if the UHSAA had enough sense to put them into an all 4A region, I guarantee they would much rather have that situation to be better prepared for their competition once they made the playoffs. Also, considering Dixie and Pine View are both 3A sized schools and Snow Canyon, the only 4A sized school in the region, did not even make the playoffs, that says plenty about the toughness and tradition of these two schools and their achievements.

Mike Sharp's ejection was not--repeat: WAS NOT--protested by the players or coaches, so you thought right. You just didn't think to check the facts of how he was reinstated first, which was completely legal and the correct decision.

Considering how much schools from up north complain every year because they can't beat Dixie in golf or baseball because "we get to play year round," I would say there's an ample amount of whining going on throughout the state. Let's just wish Springville the best of luck in the final and say congratulations Dixie, you have a lot to be proud of!
Stop Complaining | 10:35 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
My school traveled 500 miles one way to play for the championship, which we won. Stop complaining about the locale. 95% of the population lives along the Wasatch Front. It's the dream of playing on the "Turf" that these kids live for anyway. It's not a home field for any of the teams.....

Dixie, you have some studs in Sharp and Reber, but it was the Springville "D" that won the game.
Timpview player | 10:40 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Jv be ready to play because I don't think that we gonna need our varsity team for the final game. I can smell the win. Good luck devils u gonna need it. !!! Tiempviw baby #7!

How did this happen.
Flyer fan | 9:09 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
I didn't mind traveling north for playoffs when I played in high school. No excuses, Springville came prepared and deserved that win. Good luck next week. Dixie fought till the end, which is more than could be said for many other teams. That showed true spirit and toughness to never give up.

Enough with the North vs. South, the majority of the population live up north, I get it. I will say this though. Golf should be down here for state until Dixie is dethroned, they have proven they can beat the best no matter where they play. Also, the 3 4A schools in St. George have done very well at the 4A level. Much better than I ever thought they would. Those who accuse of us being whiners down here should take a good look at yourselves.
David v. Goliath | 9:52 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Certainly Springville has a massive challenge on its plate next week, but if the coaching staff watches the film (and you know they already are) and can find the weaknesses of TV and exploit those quickly than we'll see. While I thought that the conservative playing almost cost the Devils the game yesterday I think the coaches have learned and the players. In football you never take the pedal off the medal. Springville, you know how much trash talk is coming your way. Let them talk while you focus on film and on the practice field. Have a great week of practice and come out and you will find as many huge underdogs have found that games aren't won in newpapers, talk shows or even fans comments, they're won on the field. Go Devils.
Timpview | 12:12 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Is gonna watch the film too. They are going to prepare too. They are going to win. It wont be close.

Great season Dixie! You have plenty to be proud of this year! Way to represent Region 9!
Go Springville!!! | 1:14 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Awesome job Red Devils! The defense did a great at the beginning and then stunk it up at the end!! Maybe they should of changed some of those players! I know some of defensive played in the first quarter made some great plays and were never put back in at the end quarter when they weren't playing to hot!! The Red Devils as a TEAM have made a awesome season...not just one player but the WHOLE team has made an exceptional year from Springville (there is one player though that is given a little to much shine that really does not deserve it)!!!
Good luck boys!
GREAT GAME DIXIE! | 4:21 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Good job to Springville for holding on to the win. DIXIE, PINE VIEW and SNOW CANYON have only been in 4A for THREE years... so far: Dixie vs Snow Canyon for the state title in girls Volleyball(each of the past four years, one being their last year in 3A). Dixie Flyer boys golf has also won all 3 golf titles in 4A. Pine View advanced to the 4A title game two years straight in football and now Dixie to the final four. Dixie has made it to the title game in baseball two years in a row now. I think the St. George high schools are VERY competitive in the 4A ranks! SIX state title tophies, in golf and volleyball, have been down here ever since the St. George schools became 4A!! I'm just sayin'... AND that's only the titles I know of... There may be more? The Wasatch front might be more populated than Utah's Dixie, but I've lived up north and I'd much rather take the hot summers, mild winters, sunshine and blue skies, THAN the cold, snowy, smoggy, polluted/inverted skies of the Wasatch Front!
to Go Springville | 9:41 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Apparently you are a disgruntled parent or player. Pretty sad that you would go on here and tear your team down, when they have made it so far. From what I have seen this year your defense has been the strong point of your team, and they did not stink it up the other day. You must have not been at the game, but it is pretty tough to stop a team when they get the ball on back to back possesions in the red zone.
re:go springville!! | 12:19 a.m. | 11:09 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
yeah, TV might be rude. but springville isn't smart for trying to compare themselves to TV.
Another Game???? | 11:09 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
What is everyone talking about? Good luck next game? I could have sworn I just saw the 4A State Championship game. Is this next game some kind of charity game?? Just wondering.
Charity | 12:31 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
well yes.
Travel | 12:43 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
As a player from past years living in southern utah, i can say making that far of a drive has alot to do with your play the next day. Compromise would be nice, all of the people up north are on there hight horse and get there butts kissed and when you say you dont like playing up there, they get butt hurt. Truth is its harder play on the road, no questions asked
re charity | 2:05 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Hopefully Springville will step it up and play TV closer then MC did so MC fans stop talking that they were robbed by being in the same side of the bracket as TV. I watched you play, and yes, I think TV will beat Springville, but I think if MC played them the game would be close. MC is not as tough as they talked.
Congratulations Dixie | 4:28 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
on a great season. You represented region 9 very well. Considering the fact that you are a 3A sized school competing in 4A, you should be very proud of your season. The Washington County School District needs to wake up and get all of their schools back to 3A.
Carter Miller | 2:29 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Coach Monkres is one of the best coaches in the state. He is one of the many reasons that Dixie was in the semi finals. For those of you questioning him, you need to stop. Dixie ran the ball and it was stuffed, but he never abandoned it. I am proud of what he has done with Dixie and am proud of the kids that I coached for years. Thank you Coach Monkres for carrying on the tradition that I worked my butt off to keep going. Thank you to the players who I love for giving all they had. Dixie parent, a few of them, need to be happy with what they got and stop blaming the coaches. You blamed me for running the ball and you blame Coach Monkres for passing it. Coach Monkres is a better coach than I ever dreamed of being and he did an awesome job.
