Win-Win | 4:14 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
I am a Ute fan and I feel this is a win-win game for Ute fans. If Utah wins, awesome! Another great win in the Ute Program's resume and a great shot of at least a tie for the conference title, and maybe even a Boise St. disaster away from playing in another BCS game. Most importantly, a catapault for early high rankings next year.

If Utah loses, I hope TCU gets more national pub. and goes on and does the Mountain West proud and destroyes a BCS team in a BCS bowl.
Question | 4:40 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
If TCU runs the table, is it better for the MWC for TCU to play in a BCS game, or the National Championship?

If by some fluke TCU makes it to the NC game, I think it really hurts the MWC's case against the inequality of the BCS. It does, however, bolster the MWC's resume to replace the Big East or ACC as an automatic qualifier.
Objective Outsider | 4:48 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Good way to look at it, win-win! Utah has been good enough to at least have the chance of this game meaning something. But TCU is better and would not likely lose this game even 1 out of 10 times. That's why no one will think less of an over-achieving Ute team that falls short to the best team in the nation.

THE REST OF THE UTE GAMES ARE DEFINITELY A WIN/WIN...

A TCU WIN AND A BYU WIN!!

FL UTE | 6:59 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Re Objective:
YOu write as if there are reasonable people running the BCS.

There is not a snowball's chance in Key West that...

-The MWC would replace the ACC or Big East in the BCS formula;
-TCU could play in the BCS Championship;

The reason is: Money Money Money! The BCS conferences' college presidents have the money, and they are not giving it up just because teams from outside the BCS are better!

There is no scintilla of fairness in the BCS paradigm and we should stop deluding ourselves of any possibility of equity in major college football championships.

PLAYOFFS!

I live for Utah football. My Utes will win out the rest of their games.

GO UTES!!
Anonymous | 9:21 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Even the TDS fans can appreciate this. I think a mountain west team has been on college gameday 3 of the past 4 weeks. That would not happen in 2003, much less 2007. Great for the conference. Hey I guess you guys can thank the utes for that. GO UTES!!
Food for Thought | 10:03 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
The Utes are not the same team as they were last year. I am ecstatic over what they have accomplished this year so far. After losing so much talent to the NFL draft and graduation, I was anticipating fewer wins. If the Utes have a down year and win 9 games in the regular season, go bowling and get a tenth - I won't be upset! Coach Whit is the man! Go UTES!!!!
MWC on notice... | 11:46 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Jordan Wynn, before its all said and done, will go down as one of the best quaterback in the history of the MWC. The Utes have them a future Heisman..'mark my word'...AND UTAH will be a National Title contender for the next 3 years!!
San Diego Ute Fan | 1:05 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Many comments over the week seem to concede the loss and hope only to keep it close. DON'T GIVE IN SO FAST! How many of you gave the Utes no chance vs Saban and the Tide last January?

FACT: Coach Whit always has the boys well prepared and motivated for the big games. He does it like no other.

TCU also hasn't seen a defense as gifted as Utah's.

Let's stop with the "either way we win" talk, enjoy the game and let Whit and the team work their magic. This program is going to be a pleasure to watch for years to come with Whit at the helm.

No Wynn situation | 1:21 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
for Utah

win, and the Utes cost themselves and the MWC a ton of money and weaken the MWC's chances of gaining AQ status in 2012

lose, and the Utes cost themselvs any chance of winning the MWC championship

ironically, Utah will get a better bowl game by losing to the Frogs than by beating them

a Utah win puts the Frogs into the Las Vegas Bowl, BYU into the Poinsettia Bowl, and Utah into the Humanitarian Bowl

a Utah loss puts the Frogs into a BCS bowl, Utah into the Las Vegas Bowl, and BYU into the Poinsettia Bowl

it's all academic, though, since Utah has no chance of beating TCU anyway
Cmon "no Wynn situation"... | 3:09 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
...good thing Coach Whit and the team don't listen to the likes of you. Any serious fan wants the win over the money any day, just like the coaches and the team. It's about winning, get it? Your comment about having "no chance" is pathetic at best, ignorant, at worst. Remember, that is why they play the game...if they had no chance, why play it. Am glad the Utes went to the Sugar last year where they also had..."no chance". GO UTES!

Logical | 8:05 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Man, this is bizarre! It's one thing to be a fan, and a supportive one at that, but let's be realistic (Logical, perhaps). Do all you people really think Utah is going to win the next three? Whoa! No doubt Whittingham has done a nice job (by the way, where did he, Roderick and Sitake get trained?) but let's face the facts. A Utah win would be a huge, huge, upset. Just look at the performance of each team against common opponents. Ouch, it doesn't bode well for the Utes. It's going to take a lot more than switching who's on the ground and who's in the box; and who calls the plays and who doesn't, to pull this off. TCU is not New Mexico. Winn may be decent but, he's still a freshmen facing the best defense he's ever seen. OOOOHIE!
Now, a bit of a let down after the loss (TCU) and a bit of overlooking and yikes, snake bit by the Aztecs! Then go to Provo; ummmm, regular season over, losing out. It's possible folks. Don't pack your bags for Phoenix just yet.
Happy to help | 8:25 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
I'm glad there have been so many article written about the Utes this week. It has given byu fans something to do.

Go Utes!

I'm sure Kyle will have his team ready to play their best game of the season. It's true that the Utes tend to play to the level of their competition, but that goes both ways when they play good teams they step it up. This will be a great game. Utah has no pressure on them but all the motivation in the world to play hard.

What is byu's record when ESPN's game day is there??

Go Utes!!!

it is really going to be tough for tcu at home this week, they will really be intimidated by the full stadium, something they have never seen in ft worthless.
To FL UTE | 8:50 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
The BCS does evaluate the conferences to determine the 6 "power conferences." There have been a number of articles over the last year discussing that MWC's best chance is to beat out the Big East over the next 4 years. Problem is that we have to do that top to bottom, and really the MWC only has 3 legit teams. But yes, they do a statistical analysis to determine who the 6 conferences are.
HAHA | 9:14 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
No Wynn situation.. come on who taught you how the bowls work? If Utah wins they go to humanitarian bowl? That would mean TCU would no longer be the conference champion so they wouldn't go to the las vegas bowl, Utah would. BYU would most likely go to the humanitarian bowl in that instance.. i'm just saying.

Regardless this will be played tomorrow, I look forward to a competitive game between the two best teams in the MWC.

Go UTES!
Re:San Diego Ute Fan | 9:25 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
"TCU hasn't seen a defense as gifted as Utah's"

Neither had Air Force but they still managed to put up 16 points.

Oh yeah, and did I mention Wyoming's 10?

The Truth | 9:31 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
MWC fans are obsessed with the BCS. The MWC has three good teams and six horrible teams. If you are east of the Rockies, nobody can even mention other teams from the MWC if they can even name the three good teams in the MWC. Being on the MTN is killing you. And oh yeah, if TCU beats Utah then Utah and BYU will battle with the winner playing the fourth or fifth place Pac-10 team in the Vegas bowl. It's time to accept the facts and stop the BCS whining and that is.....THE TRUTH
strategym | 10:02 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Please refer to the BCS constitution. There are 6 conferences with unconditional automatics and one independent school (Notre Dame) with a conditional automatic. One and only one school not from the foregoing gets an automatic and it's conditional. There are 4 BCS bowls. Explicitly, the outlier automatic can be one of those eight teams. The language of the BCS doesn't even contemplate the outlier's playing in the championship game. There's no explicit provision for removing one of the six and replacing it with one of the other five D1 conferences - just pundit speculation. What's true is that all eleven D1's get to vote on allowing one or more other outliers into one of the three vacancies possibly available in BCS bowl games, but that's at best a 6-5 split unless one of the chosen wants to pick a fight with its brethren. And then, the media czars owning the dance could call the shot.
Training.... | 10:10 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
One poster asks the question "where did Whitt, Sitake, etc get trained?" implying that BYU trained them for their current success.

First, Whitt has been "trained" as a coach at Utah. He was a player at BYU and, apparently, liked it so much that he turned down a chance to go back to stay at Utah. He has spent how many years as D Coordinator at Utah compared to the 4 playing at BYU. So, he was "trained" at Utah.

Second, if you are going to play the "they were trained at BYU" card, then I guess we can claim that Utah trained Urban Meyer to win his 2 championships, since he spent time at our University.

No matter who trained them, the fact is that you wanted him as the captain of your team, but he choose us! Stinks to be you!
hee haaaw | 10:13 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
WHO CARES , THEY AIN'T EVEN FROM UTAH!!
re: Logical | 10:17 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Who's being illogical? Utah has a better chance of winning all three than losing all three. Look at the common opponent of Air Force. TCU by three. Utah into overtime. BTW, Air Force is going to work the TDS because they play good defense as well. A couple of picks from Hall and the team falls apart.
Re: MWC on notice... | 10:41 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
That's funny, I thought Corbin Louks was supposed to be the next "best quarterback in MWC history".

At least that's what you Ute homers were saying last year, up until this past spring. What happened?

Heck, I remember up until a couple of weeks ago you Ute homers were touting Terrance Cain as the next unstoppable version of Brian Johnson.

I strongly suspect that if -- or more likely, when -- Jordan Wynn throws several interceptions against TCU this week you'll be talking up Utah's third-string QB as the "next greatest QB in MWC history".
re: HAHA | 10:58 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Utah beats TCU

BYU beats Utah

BYU, TCU and Utah tie for the MWC at 8-1

TCU, as the highest ranked team is selected by the Las Vegas Bowl

BYU as the next highest ranked team is selected by the Poinsettia Bowl

Utah goes to the Humanitarian Bowl

So, yes, if Utah wins tomorrow, the Utes go to the Humanitarian Bowl.

And, the MWC loses the BCS berth to the WAC and an opportunity to move one step closer to being an AQ BCS conference in 2012.

Fortunately, regardless of the brave face Utah fans are putting on, the Utes have almost no chance of pulling an upset tomorrow.

Starting a freshman quarterback with practically no college experience against one of the best defenses in the NCAA is a recipe for disaster.

Utah's defense won't be able to salvage a win this time. TCU is just too good.

I watched last year's team whip an unmotivated Alabama team, and believe me, this year's Utah team is only a shadow of that team.

BYU, TCU and Utah tie for the MWC championship at 7-1
Re: The Truth | 11:14 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Name the bottom half of the SEC, Big 12, Big 10, ACC, Pac 10 and Big East without looking it up. I bet you can't.

Do you really think the bottom of the awful Big 10 (I'm an alum of a Big 10 school and still live in Big 10 country so I know) and worse ACC is better than the bottom of the MWC. They aren't. We won't even talk about the Big East and have you seen the Big 12 this year. The bottom of the Pac 10 and SEC aren't that great either.

I agree with you that Craig Thompson has done the conference no favors with bowls and the high school production known at The Mtn. But where it counts, on the field, the MWC can hang with anybody.
The Truth is... | 11:17 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
The bowl tie-ins for the MWC are all about money and the number of television sets in the MWC footprint, and have NOTHING to do with the quality of MWC teams nor how many fans east of the Rockies follow MWC football.

The NCAA is supposed to represent EVERY school equally and fairly. The fact that the NCAA has allowed the BCS to hijack major college football is a farce and whiners like "The Truth" simply perpetuate the farce by supporting the sham that is the BCS.

The Mtn isn't killing the MWC. The haves in the BCS who have done everything possible to exclude the have nots from the BCS money grab are responsible for creating the exclusive big boys club farce and denying fans the opportunity to see a legitimate champion determined on the field instead of in some brainiac's computer.

The fact is fans like "The Truth" are scared to death that if teams like Utah, TCU, BYU and Boise State had the same resources (money and television exposure) as the big boys, the big boy's control of major college football would quickly disappear.
Re: Re: MWC on notice | 11:35 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Just like the Heisman in waiting that you can't stop frothing about that is still in HS. Utes win against TCU. They've had the adversity and the experience in the big game. Enough said Cougars "Big Game". Utes will crash the BCS again and this time as the only 1 loss team. Utes to the Fiesta Bowl, TCU to Vegas, Air Force to San Diego and BYU to New Mexico or Idaho....won't matter, it's a Bowl game and they'll blow it. GO UTES!!!

I think the Utes are going to win a close one down in Texas. Utes, make us proud
San Diego Ute Fan | 12:13 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009

Take this to the bank:

1. Utah's defense comes up huge, the offense keeps the ball off of the ground, Utah sneaks out of Fort Worth with a close win, then wins out.

2. Boise State stubs its toe against Nevada (who has 6 straight convincing wins putting up huge scores).

3. Utah goes BCS bowling. AGAIN!

re: MWC on notice | 11:35 a.m. | 12:21 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Nice enthusiasm; but, a pipe dream only for Utah fans living in a fantasy world.

Kyle's supposed invincibility in big games won't save the Utes from being embarrassed in Fort Worth.

Of course, Utah fans have a fallback plan when their bravado fails them; this is Utah's "rebuilding year" so the Utes weren't supposed to win anyway.
hey tcU & byU fans... | 12:40 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009

So you ungreatful bunch, better show some respect where respect is due!..I understand rootin for your team is one thing, but U better know your history...and to those so called Utah fans, that are rootin for the Utes to lose, so the MWC could look good, U are all cowards in my book!..WE PLAY TO WIN!...no matter what!..and like I said before, we (Utah) are not gona lay down and let tcU have their way with us..this isn't byU!..U gotta another thing coming pal!
The Truth? | 12:56 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Wow, how about the fact that Wyoming last year went to Tennessee and beat them. East coast fans are pretty ignorant. They are so quick to discount MWC.

I will also agree with the idea TCU hasn't seen Utah's powerful defense. ahahahah wow. Utah barely beat Wyoming. I think Patterson has got his crew focused this year. Utah is gonna get blasted.

Re: The Truth: I agree that the MWC only has three really good teams, but your line of reasoning represents the old school football world that is changing and the MWC teams and Boise State are changing it.

I'm not sure how the MWC is any different from the Big East. Utah dispatched big east cellar dwellar Loisville easier than some of the crummy MWC teams you refer to. Then there's the very average Big-10 with six teams with non-winning records and an average Iowa as the flagship program. The Pac-10 front runner Oregon lost to Boise State and Oregon State needed a last second field goal to beat UNLV. Oklahoma lost to BYU and even Texas struggled with Wyoming for a half. The BCS teams aren't invincible and the gap between the MWC and the BCS conferences is smaller than its ever been.

So in both scenarios of Utah Vs. TCU you think that Utah will lose to BYU? haha awesome

Ok first of all if TCU loses to Utah they will no longer be ranked higher than Utah and BYU, second of all what makes you think BYU would then beat Utah if they defeat TCU?

Regardless, it is all speculation and will be found out tomorrow. To whoever is touting Wynn as a heisman candidate? Lets not pull a BYU and declare heismans or champions or BCS games before they are achieved.
MWC is Overhyped | 3:35 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
Looks like lots of people are taking the blue happy pills that the y fans take every pre-season. You know the ones that make you think you have a national title shot until your time gets blown out a time or two.

The Horned Frogs are just as good as they were last year, when the lost to Utah and were blown out by OU. The WMC is all hype. Bigger is Better.

There is only one University of Texas and they will play for their 5th NC in Pasadena.
