I wish I would've waited til this came out on DVD to watch. Good animation of the earth crumbling... But after 50 minutes of that you get bored. The Story wasn't all that great either.. All in all decent movie, but I would never buy it.

Rip off Sci-Fi

This me of the classic story "The Second Deluge" by Garrett P. Serviss. In that story the earth is destroyed by a giant flood caused by an approaching 'water rich nebula.' A wealthy man builds a giant sub-marine for the saving of the earth's species. The majority of the story is the exploration of the earth after the flood. I highly recommend it.

Looks depressing but I guess I'll end it seeing at some point. It might even be fun. Still have yet to see Where The Wild Things Are, Paranormal Activities, and Disney's A Christmas with good ole' Jim Carrey and Gary Oldman.

Things blowing up, check.
Big volcanoes, check.
Hot guys (mmmm....John Cusack), check.
California literally sliding into the ocean, check.
More things 'sploding, check.
Sounds like my kind of movie.

Eh, it may have bad acting, but it looks like good, cheesy fun with lots of stuff blowing up. As long as he stays away from any more Godzilla movies, I'll be fine.

THEeyepatch

Sounds like a great bad movie. No story, explosions galore, special effects so unbelievable there ridiculous, this should be a instant contender for a RAZZIE.

greeneyesgirl

the movie was wackk i was expecting more about the mayas calendar then bout the whole family it was boringg

It is what it is...

COme on this movie was an enjoyable Popcorn flick...and with all the junk going on in the world it is OK to have a popcorn flick once in a while to shake our seats and wow our eyes. It won't be a Best Picture contender, but it won't be a stinker either. It was fun.

Besides, this is the third time Roland Emerich has destroyed the White House in a movie--each different than the last! I wonder how he'll do it next time! Being bowled over by an aircraft carrier in a tidal wave is hard to beat!

these types of movies get old really fast

This is not the standard disaster flick we've come to expect. Jeff is right, Bay and others could take a hint. It let us bask in the ridiculous sights (California sliding into the ocean, awesome!), it had just enough story to hold it together, it didn't get too sciencey (the major description of what was happening was provided via a web cartoon featuring Woody Harrelson) and it was just big dumb fun, I turned my brain off for almost three hours (a bit long, but I wasn't antsy)and just enjoyed myself.

Soccer Boy

On my death bed I'll wish I had that 160 minutes of my life back. I already wish I had my $16 back. This is in contention for one of the worst movies I've ever seen. If you're tempted to go...look for some reruns of Hee Haw or the Lawrence Welk Show to kill some time.

BNR

Soccer Boy is RIGHT ON! I couldn't agree more - a complete waste of time! But too bad you didn't ask for your money back, we did and got a refund!

Big Bird

This movie was terrible! John Cussack is a great actor but did really nothing to save this movie. Very boring movie despite the special effects and no real plot. GIJoe and the first Transformers movies were fantastic. Jeff Vice always seems to have different oppinions than a majority of people who read his reviews. I give this movie 1 star. I have seen much worse. But this movie is a waste of time.

kuch

TOO LONG. BORING. Felt like it WAS 2012 by the time it ended.

BHPT

Yes, it was long, sometimes boring, filled with pure Hollywood kitch, and plot holes you could drive an ark through... and I loved every minute! This is a special effects orgasm! I have been to movies where the actors saved the world, and I was disappointed because I wanted to see the world blow up! No disappointment here! You will get to see global destruction from every possible angle! If you want subtlety, great acting, and a compelling story, stay home and watch "Sense and Sensibility" for the 10th time. But if you want a CGI roller coaster and eye popping special effects, hang on and enjoy the ride!

loved it

loved the movie, wished it was longer.

Dan Rhone

I loved the movie 2012. Yes, it was long but it was an excellent movie.
Dan Rhone
Salt Lake City

would see it again

Loved it! Yes it qas long! But it kept me interested the whole movie.

what movie did you see?

This is one of the worst and I mean worst movies I have ever seen. It is so boring and logic defying that I am amazed any critic could give this more than 1/2 a star let alone 2 1/2. Give me a break. This is such an absurd and stupid movie I swear I must have lost at least 1,000,000 brain cells just watching it. Do yourself a favor and skip this movie.

@ Big Bird, what movie... etc

Methinks Jeff has a different opinion than those who make negative comments about his reviews. There are a lot of us that appreciate his consistency. It gives us a yardstick by which to determine if we'll likely enjoy a particular flick. His job isn't to tell you if you'll like a movie the way he does, but to be consistent so once you know how his tastes stack up to yours, his reviews are a reliable way to tell if you will like something.

Once again, good job, Jeff. Thanks.
