Boozer and Okur together WILL NEVER WIN ANYTHING. Those two together represent
a layup drill for the other team.
As soon as Boozer is on the floor the other team just runs steady pick n roll involving him. They know what will happen--so do we. He seems mentally incapable of learning to defend it which translated means he won't make the effort.
Alternatively, Millsap has been a joke too.
Although Fesenko is not much offensively he INSTANTLY changes the game defensively. I saw multiple times where he altered shots that did not go in and I saw at least 2 different players dribble into the paint, saw Fess, and then turned around and dribbled straight back out.
When was the last time an opponent ever did that with Booz or Okur standing in front of them?
Never.
All opponents see with those two is a layup which they get uncontested repeatedly.
This team clearly does not believe they can win with Boozer on the floor. Most of them have quit playing any D they were all talking about in preseason.

It isn't just the line up, we need to get a couple hard nosed players in
here to get these guys playing mean defense. Nobody is intimidated when they
drive to the basket against the Jazz. In fact, they are all thinking it is a
good way to get three points.

critical of Sloan and the FO. He is finally forced into making some changes.
In defense of Sloan/FO I would like to make the following points. They view it all from a longer term perspective.
They know they will move Boozer one way or the other sooner or later. If they can get good play out of him in the short run so much the better.
They know CJ and Korver will heal. That will fix the zone problem.
However, the deeper problems such as NO back up PG, poor defense, PFs who are to short and coaching biases won't fix themselves. Only changes in players and maybe coaches will fix those.

I'm not sure that is going to do anything to help much other than he does
play better defense. That said he can't defend BIG's at all because
he is too short.
He gets some blocks but it is usually in help defense NEVER on his own man as they just "get into him" and shoot over the top.
I am no Locke fan but heard some of his stats on the radio yesterday before the game.
AK on the bench the Jazz are -24 against opponents.
AK on the floor the Jazz are +4 against opponents.
Sure that does not mean just leave AK on the floor 24/7 but what it does mean is they are completely defenseless when he is off the floor.

some one like Alston who would solve the back up PG problem and also some of the
perimeter defense and outside shooting problem.
There may be better options than Alston but he would do the Jazz no financial harm and probably would instantly solve 2 immediate problems. He may be worth an extra 5-10 wins this season depending on DWill wear and tear.

i think the jazz players are scared of sloan. he is so grumpy and scarry when
they go back to the bench no wonder they are under so much pressure to win. he
even complains when they win also.

None of them are producing this year, so why not try fresh blood?!

I think the Jazz are lazy. Makin' all that money..whether they win or
lose. Boozer is the worst defensive player ever. Is is soft? Afraid of blocking
out or shutting down the lane. YUP! And Okur... not sure he knows which end of
the floor is which. Come on Jerry.. make some changes. We'd be happy with
EFFORT from your players!

The coaching staff should have had all these things figured out. It's like
when Phil Jackson replaced Dell Harris at LA, his coaching style was able to get
a bunch of egos to play together as a team. Nothing changed there, mainly just
the style of coaching. Sloan's done the Jazz so much good and he can't
ever be thanked enough. Bottom line though, we have the talent, someone's
just got to bring it out.

Retire already. EVERY team in the NBA knows the Jazz's schemes and can
game plan without watching video of us. Clear out the coaching staff (except
for Ty Corbin, maybe) and let's get some fresh ideas in here. I'd
gladly take a hit over ditching Sloan than another 1st round loss with no
defense on star players.

round pick with Boozer just to get a decent player in return (my wish would be
Bosh) or to hold on to that pick and hope we get a Bosh-type 4 in the draft?

argument with a fellow season ticket holder if it is sloan's fault. He
thinks it is the players. Being a coach myself i know that it is my job and his
job to get everyone ready to play and motivated. He is a predictable joke who
needs to retire. Take you size 30 ego and ride off to your farm.

Wide open and he misses more than he makes.
Conversely, we all cringe when our opponents get wide open looks because we know more often than not they make them.

This team has serious personnel problems. There is nothing serious wrong with the coaching..we just have a bunch of players who can't/won't defend and can't score when left wide open.
No coach is suddenly going to make Brewer a shooter. Don't kid yourself. Good athlete but a shooting guard who can't shoot is not going to get the job done.

If we aren't going to play D, then we might as well be Phoenix. At least
they play an interesting style of basketball and we have the point guard to do
it. When Korver and CJ get back, we will have the 3 point shooting and with AK
we have the quick powerforward. I like how after experimenting with Booz and
Memo together for like what 4 years, we finally need a change? you think! Fess,
Milsap,AK,Brewer,D-will should start and set the tone of playing hard. (Even
Boston, who could start Garnett and Wallace together, don't. They keep a
banger (Perkins) in their starting line up.) Booz and Memo should be paired with
either Fess or Koufos to keep more size on the floor but who knows Jerry will
probably do nothing???

It is a start. Koufos plays defense and rebounds. Fez can play defense, rebound
and dunk. However, we need more offense. Maybe rotate a combination of Fez
Koufos Okur, Millsap and Boozer (depending on if Boozer/Millsap are playing
well). Try to keep Fez/Koufos paired with an offensive player.
Boozer seems to do better at C when combined with Millsap or Koufos at PF.
AK/Mathews are needed to open the inside game from the outside. They will have to be paired with Brewer from time to time as they can not play 48 minutes.
The biggest problem is PG. If DWill can't go or go well, AK may have to play point forward.
Maybe change the pace to super slow and use Fez Koufos on the inside. Make it a defensive struggle/slow down game? That would milk more minutes out of DWill, AK and Mathews.
Sloan is going to have to actually coach this game and that means make some adjustments for the players who are actually playing well and forget his usual rotations.

force his players to play hard, all he can do is teach, encourage, and motivate,
then discipline players not doing their job, (Boozer, Memo, Brewer, Millsap...).
Sloan is one of the best. While all these other coaches win 20% of their games
and get fired in a season, he has won almost 70%, has 20 season's
experience, has been to the finals, and is a hall of famer. He's not the
problem. Phil Jackson would've dumped most of these guys in a second,
Sloan took em to the Western finals. how many Div or Conf championships have
you people won? now do it with a bunch of NBA rejects.

Slown has admitted that he isn't a motivator. The game has changed. Slown
is lost and the players need a motivated leader. Nobody claims that Slown is not
a great coach, but it's is time for a change.
Something needs to be done and replacing unmotivated players with different unmotivated players will still be a loss.
I hope the Jazz and Knicks both keep losing. Two top picks in the draft is way better than a one a done 8th seeed in the playoffs. Especially if the Jazz get a new coach.

You have a valid point or two, but Sloan is NOT encouraging and motivating
during games. He sits on the bench with his mouth open and has the same lost
look on his face throughout the game. It is pathetic. Every player on that
team has been chosen by Sloan to be there. He is the true GM, and is the
problem. The "NBA rejects" on this team were signed and offered
extensions with Sloan's approval. The poor defense, especially interior D,
has been a problem for a few years now. This is the coach's job to
correct. This core of players have had plenty of time to respond. The ability
is there and if the coach can't bring it out of the players he has chosen
to be a part of his "system", then the coach has got to go. The
Celtics are an old team and ran laps around the Jazz. The NBA game has evolved,
Sloan has not.

We have a point guard and a very good back up power forward (Millsap). Our team
is embrassing. Anyone who thinks the Jazz are contenders needs to be honest
with themselves (Last night it was obvious. We are never going to get a ring
with this group! We need to start building with D-Will. Please don't let
me watch Boozer give opponents lay up drills, while Okur appears to help out
with 15 lbs weights tied to each foot. This team is medicore at best. It was
fools gold when we made it to the WC finals, because Dallas Choked. Let's
start it over with the help of the Knicks and move on with life. I can't
stand to see Denver and Portland get it together while we bet the farm on these
clowns. People in this group have no loyalty to the Jazz (they just want a
check)= AK, Boozer. How Can we give a max contract to a guy that can't
even make it on the All Star Ballot (AK). This franchise has truly went down
hill.

Why not do what New Orleans just did and fire the coach and his staff? Phoenix
has done the same thing in recent years and look at them now, also they have
dumped player after player forever and always come back contending. This status
quo thing is over bearing and needs changing RIGHT NOW! I'm sick of lame
excuses. Get new management including this so-called GM we have out of here,
along with new coaches unwanted players and lets compete again.

People need to stop bagging on AK for his contract. When the Jazz signed him to
that deal they had him as their cornerstone player, the guy they were going to
build around. Then they did a complete turn around and since then the Jazz have
been playing him at the 3. That's not his position, especially in the Jazz
offense. That's why after leading Russia to the Euro championship at the 4
spot AK was so unhappy. The Jazz have him guarding people on the perimeter, not
necessarly his strength, instead of providing some shot blocking inside like
Booz is doing? yeah right. AK take the jazz money, that's what they get for
playing you out of your natural 4 spot. I'm hoping that the Jazz trade you
to a team that runs....so I can watch the AK of old.

people i think would be great coaches for the Jazz...John Stockton...having the
greatest point guard in the history as your coach is alone a motivator..mix that
with his never winning a championship (everyone would play for him) and he is a
born leader and a firey leader!!! Karl Malone...i think karl would do the same
as Stock and wouldnt it be great to see footage of practice and seeing karl
malone get so P.O'd at booz that he gets in the action and
"show's" Boozer how to play the game of basketball?!?! and last
but not least...Charles Barkley...i would just love that because the jazz are
already downhill and to have a coach that you would barely be able to understand
stomping up and down the court that would be awesome!!! Barkley has a love for
the jazz and actually in my opinion would be a great coach! would make a great
motivator...(oh i say even look at Jeff Hornecek...wouldnt hurt) they would all
do better than the outdated style of play by Jerry Sloan...sorry Sloan...i love

Before Boozer got hurt this was his team to some extent and it reflected his mood swings. After he was out for ever the team moved on and it became DWill, Okur and to some extent Millsap's team. With Boozer back the chemistry leadership is unsettled (at best).
Things are so bad right now Sloan does not need to worry about Egos. He has and needs to worry about keeping the right combinations on the floor at all times in spite of having limited options.
The Jazz are desparate for this win. Who starts is not relevant. What is relevant is keeping a combination of players on the floor who maximize the net score. Sloan will have to constantly change the mix of players to both maximize scoring and defense all night in order to win.

you are speaking the truth. it about time somebody points out AK's worth
to our team. yeah he got a big contract, and he deserved it to. its not his
fault he went from filling the stat sheet up at the 4 and then the next year we
sign loozer to play 4. AK got it big time. he is so awesome at 4 it boggles my
mind that he doesnt play there. he is a decent enough shooter that any 4 in the
league would have to respect that and he would be able to drive on any 4 as
well. defensively it keeps him low to contest shots. if we are all fed up with
boozer and milsaps play of late, lets put AK at the 4 and watch him put up his
all-star numbers again. boozer has to go. i dont care where, just not on the
court.

2 season was the Jazz's best season. The team had a great record and strong
+/- of +565 points against opponents an average margin of victory was +6.9 per
game. The Jazz had the 2nd beat offense in the NBA. Almost every lineup the
Jazz used was sucessful. Williams, Brewer, AK, Boozer and Okur started and they
were actually one of the most unproductive lines ups - even though they played
almost 1000 minutes they had a +/- of 78. When we subbed Millsap for either
Boozer or Okur that season with the same other 3 players the Jazz +/- was over
100 and they only played together under 400 minutes.
The next season the Jazz substituted AK for Miles and the next season the Jazz's +/- was about -18 for over 700 minutes. Now Boozer was injured so during that time the Jazz Millsap played in that lineup.
The point is Boozer and Okur cannot be successful together. You need one defensive big man. Sloan cannot make them play defense.
The Jazz need to trade either Boozer for a small forward so we can have AK back play PF some times and get Fess more minutes

I think Jerry Sloan is too old to coach in the NBA. Sure he had some nice years
in the '90s, but his time has passed.

IS anyone really surprised that when the Jazz are basically the same team team
as last year that nothing changed??? Sloan should man-up and retire. He must be
delusional to think what he's doing is working. Here's what needs to
be done:
1-Sloan out(Take a hint from New Orleans..)
2- Take Boozer and Okur with him or bench them.
3- Get a shooting guard who can shoot
4- Hire Jeff Hornacek to coach
5- The Utah press need to quit making excuses and actually report the sports news and quit kissing up to the Millers
6- Keep praying the Knicks are as bad as the Jazz

Boozer needs to go. I don't think there is another player in the league
that is as soft, with absolutely no defensive ability. He knows he has the jazz
over a barrell, so why try? Bury him on the bench until they can unload him for
another expireing contract. AK needs to move back to the 4, Fes needs to start
at center. Okur can back up the 4 and the 5 depending on match ups. Given his
play Mathews should start and Brewer should be the back up. Hey here's a
real novel idea....how about giving out playing time based on performance rather
then paycheck.

you could have a rotation of big men for the 4/5 depending on matchups, and soon as Korver/Miles are healthy, nice depth at the wings.
I believe that starting line-up is the best combo of Offense & Defense.
