Wait a minute!

"True to the Dickens story" ???

Which movie did you see?

The one Mr. Vice and I saw was a bloated "CGI for the sake of CGI" mess.

I heard parents had to leave because their kids were terrified of the "bad man" on the screen.

I haven't seen it and would like more comments from people that have so I can decide....

I have seen it

Me and the Missus went to see it yesterday.

It is the best movie I have ever seen!

It is largely true, at times word for word, to the Dickens classic.

It was deeply moving; I came forth a better man than I went in.

I loved it. The animation and 3D effects were perfect for a tale such as this, which presented too many problems with portrayal of the supernatural and so on, to merely act with a few special effects.

This is the first time I have seen 3D and it was terrific.

Above all the expected diminution or avoidance of the Christian message was not there. Carols were sung, the words clearly heard, and the Christian parts of the dialogue were not brushed aside or ignored.

I would like to thank, if I could, Jim Carrie and all who put this together. I would not hesitate to recomment this as adult, child and family viewing. It is true that the very youngest children might be scared of certain parts. That is always a strong possibility in viewing any version of this perennial story of hope and personal conversion to love of mankind.

Funny, I don't remember reading about Scrooge shrinking and getting hit in the groin with icicles--maybe there's a new edition out there I've missed. Best version so far is still Patrick Stewart (George C. Scott's a close second). In my book, any version that shows Scrooge actually changing and becoming a "better man" is "true to the story."
