I admit that the change was handled well. Billy Petersons character was not one that could be replaced, so by bringing in Fishburne as an entry level CSI they avoided conflict. I like Fishburne, but the show was better with Peterson. We attended the same University so I am a little biased.
CSI is better this year, but still miss Peterson on it. To me he made the show. And there's too many characters that are missing. Can't remember the name of the black CSI guy, but he was killed off at the end of one season. Then Sarah seems to flit back and forth.
I like CSI Miami a lot better, but even characters there are leaving and being replaced. I liked Eric in particular.
Since I've become an NCIS fan, like this series far better than CSI. Much less violence, and there's humor and good interaction of the cast.
CSI take note---if you can get Peterson back do it.
