Tech schools cost state less than 2-year colleges, audit says

Does education at an applied technical college include general education?

If not, it really isn't cheaper.

If so, this information is good to know.

Technical education includes only the skills that are defined by industry as essential for employment in a specific occupation. This can include courses such as computer literacy, math, and workplace relations. Relevance is key.

No, general education as found at a college or university is not offered at a tech college. No credits that could be transferred to a junior or 4yr college are given either.

I kind of take that back. A student could take some remedial English or math in order to pass a placement test at a college.

Comparing tech schools and 2-year colleges is like comparing apples and oranges.

@Sue: Graduates from tech schools make a lot more money than graduates of 2 year colleges. Hair stylists in one year of schooling can make up to $100,000 per year. Plumbers, mechanics, etc make good money. Tech schools are a better way to go if you are not going for a 4 year degree.

If all I want is a good-paying job as quickly as possible an Applied Technology College is the way to go. I don't need the credits or the piece of paper. I just need finances to support the family. I know Welders and Computer Techs who make a lot more than my brother does with his BS in Business.

My brother got $7500 in Pell Grants but is still paying off $12,000 in student loans for his BS in Business three years later. My friends finished in less than two years at BATC in Logan and only paid $2800 (covered by a Pell Grant) for the whole time they were there.
