It'll be interesting to see how it all shakes down at Rice-Eccles this year. Whatever happens, we'll all be assured of seeing some great football. Thanks for another great article.
perspective | 2:35 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
I think placing these four teams as the best of the DECADE is lacking perspective and looking primarily at just the past few years. Nobody argues Bingham and Alta of late, but to go back to 2000 none of these 4 was considered a powerhouse then or for several years after. Back then Skyline was a dynasty. Northridge was the team that ended that dynasty and brought Skyline back to earth. Brighton was probably the next most consistently dominant team. They always seemed to choke when it came to winning the big one, but through 2005 can anyone remember Brighton not being in the top 5 and making it to the semis nearly every year? Davis was awful the first half of this decade, Bingham was consistently mediocre, and Alta was up and down. Hunter was consistently good, albeit nothing special except for '03. All four are good but looking at the decade try to consider the full ten years evenly.
Decade ? | 7:46 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Who cares about the decade. We just care about Friday at 2:30pm when Bingham shuts up ALTA

Brighton? Try winning a championship to even be considered.
Left off. | 8:08 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
How about this years Pleasant Grove team, they should be the team of the decade with all those D1 players!
Great teams | 8:21 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Which one of these is not like the others.
Skyline- Champions 2005
Northridge- Champions 2000, 2001,2002
Davis- Champions 2004
Hunter-Champions 2003
Alta-Champions 2007,2008
Bingham-Champions 2006
Brighton-Not

Come on Mr.Perspective, where did the Brighton bomb come from?

Listen yall, ima let you finish, but De La Salle High School has the best high school football team of all time!
Peach Schnapps | 8:40 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
How exactly do you shut up a whole football team? I think it'd be impossible to physically close everyone of their mouths. Nice try though. Oh, and Alta will win.
flava flavvvvv | 8:48 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Bingham and Alta are a coin toss for the most talented teams in the state
Kanye West | 8:48 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Hey yall ima let you finish, but the Remember the Titans football team was one of the greatest high school football teams of ALL TIME!
Viewmont | 9:23 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Is clearly the best team of the decade.
GREAT ARTICLE | 9:44 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
I was actually thinking about this a couple days ago, and aside from northridge and skyline, these are the top 4 programs! so to avoid contraversy if you made a top 6 of the decade it would have been a lot easier!
Re: Kanye West | 9:54 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Even De La Salle has been beat.
alta | 10:18 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
is going to lose. sorry guys, but bingham is much bigger stronger faster.

I really think it was a genuinely person trying to make me laugh and it did.

Props to you.
Region 4 | 11:02 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
hoping Alta would pull this one out... Go region 4! And also, remember my word, Brighton will be up in the next five years. Keep those words in mind, people.
Tigers | 1:52 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
The best team ever in Utah was the Orem Tigers in 1987...Tyler Anderson, Bryan Rowley, Chad Lewis, Ed Chatterly....and more rolled up every team and beat Skyline for the State Championship.
Pleasant who? | 2:08 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Left off~ This years Pleasant Grove team may have all those D1 kids but I believe last years Detroit Lions team had all those NFL players. You have to win to be considered top anything.
bhs student | 4:33 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
alta is the team.. gonna be a battle out there this Friday but im afraid alta will pull it off. love the men in blue but if alta is anything like they were last year they are all to clutch and preform big on the carpet
re: Tigers | 4:54 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Dude, the article is about the best 5A team this decade. So, you've erred in two places:
1) 5A didn't exist in 1987
2) 1987 is 22 years ago, so it's not even in the last decade
3) Nobody cares about Orem from 1987
Brighton Championship | 7:09 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
C'mon we worked hard for the championship in 1983. It has been the only one but dont say the Bengal's of Brighton have never been champions. 41-0 against Bonneville,,, Fix your list
Re:Brighton Championship | 7:34 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Remember the theme of this article. Best team of the decade, as in this decade. The list denotes Brighton has zero in response to Mr. perspective. Nice try slipping in 1983 championship though, 26 years of futility in something to be proud of, eye of the tiger baby!
RE: Brighton Championship | 7:44 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
What don't you get about this decade? You're talking about 1983, not to mention this article is about 5A, which wasn't even existent at that time period. Plus, Alta won the title in 1983, Brighton won in 1982...so how bout you fix your list. Where do you find these fans Brighton? It's hilarious

ok hunters 19 playoff apperances in 20 years is the best percentage just saying
CARBON!!! | 8:12 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Carbon High Dinos would beat any 5A team you throw at them!!!
Best Team of the Decade | 8:15 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
2003 HUNTER WOLVERINES, 14-0, dominated all opponents.

Notable Players:
Rey Feinga: 3 year starter at BYU
Tauni Vakapuna: Currently starting at RB at dixie st
Matt Asiata: 2 Year starter at Utah
Otis Nelson: 3 yr starter at Utah st.
Ron Tongaonavai: Last i hear at Utah
Sione Tupouniua: At Utah

in Total 23 future college football players on the team. I'd say that would be tough to beat. and anyone who saw them would agree
Weddle | 8:34 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
I didn't know since 2003 Alta was 71-18 and Bingham 71-17 thats amazing, just another stat to add to how great the rivalry is.
Back at ya Hunter | 8:40 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
2007-2008 ALTA HAWKS, 26-2, dominated all opponents (played a much better teams than Hunter saw all that year).

Notable Players:
Sausan Shakerin: First junior to win Mr. Football - Utah
Boo Andersen: Mr. Football - Utah
Jerad Fehr: - Navy
Ryan Rosenvall: - Middle Tennessee State
Derek Keller: - SUU
Jordan Betz: - Snow
Jordan Anderson: - Snow
Parker Erickson: - Utah State
Ammon Olsen: - SUU
Brady Davis: - SUU
Drake Eckholt: - SUU
Parker Webster: - Ohio Dominican University

The list continues. Those two teams are by far the best of the decade - especially the 2007 team that could beat you with the run or pass.
Hot Rod | 9:16 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Hello, I'm a senior at Alta and I know it will be a tough battle with Bingham, and the winner will probably win only by four points. This is my prediction Alta 21 Bingham 17. I think whoever wins this game will be the State Champion 5a, sorry Davis, or Hunter but you have no chance against Alta, or Bingham.
RE: alta 07 | 10:38 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
But did 23 play college?

Rey Feinga: only lineman to win Mr. Football
Tauni Vakapuna: 5A MVP

And how many teams can say matt asiata is the backup running back?
RE: RE: alta 07 | 11:35 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Where are you getting your information about the 23 players that played college football? I'd certainly like to know.

If you want to talk about 5A MVP's - Ryan Rosenvall and Ammon Olsen won those also, not to mention Olsen was the Gatorade Player of the Year. On top of that, Alta had TWO Mr. Football's on the same team.

Granted, it's impressive that Matt Asiata was the backup, however, how many teams can say that Ammon Olsen was their backup? Yeah, yeah - Asiata is a better player...I know and he's a better college player (so far). But we're talking high school, and at the high school level - Olsen was as good as it gets.

I'm totally on board with the fact that Hunter was "maybe" the best team. What I'm arguing is the quality of competition increased, along with the out of state schedule the '07 team played was much better. I'd take the '07 Hawks over the '03 Wolverines.

A-Town Pride "We are we are we are Hawks!"
RE:alta 07 | 12:58 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
I know the numbers because i was on that 03 hunter team, and the 23 include jr and sophmore contributers that went on to play college football. As far as quality of competiton, im sure alta had a tough schedule in 07 (i wasnt even in the country) But hunter had to beat skyline twice, who was a dynasty at the time, and beat a 10-1 clearfield team, and a 13-0 alta team. so strength of schedule was pretty tough! but i have no doubt the 07 alta team was very good
Hunter fan | 5:09 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
I highly doubt that the "07 Alta team would stand a chance against the "03 Hunter team. That "03 team was "REAL" with real local home grown players that lived in the Hunter high bounderies and were proud to live there and go to Hunter. Alta you guys are FAKE!!!

WESTSIDE PRIDE!!!
Go Hunter!!!
Hunter 03 | 11:06 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
03 hunter would blow out alta.
Hunter Alum '92 | 2:09 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
I have to agree with the comment about '03 Hunter team, I think that had Dustin coached that team, there would be more that 1 state champ banner hanging in the gym. Wes Wilken was a decent coach, but the problems with dicipline can be attributed to his lax coaching style. Now that Hunter will be keeping it's kids from going to other programs, they will be unstoppable. Plus, Hunter has some 2nd generation players coming up that will keep the program strong IE: The Bloomfield and Lapuaho boys
Re:hunter alum 92 | 4:29 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009
pearce wouldnt know what to do with all that talent
