Usually a zone will yeild

15 ft jumpers and penetration between the defensive players. Can Millsap penetrate a zone from the 3 position? That might free AK up to help Maynor bring up the Ball when DWill is out (I am assumming DWill will play some).

todd from santa ana

actually a zone will allow even the 10 to 12 footer straight away usually without issue

Re-run

Didn't they write this same story last season "zone D giving Jazz headaches" and the season before, and the season before that, and so on and so on...

Maybe this group of amateurs will figure out what everyone else in the NBA already seems to know how to do.

This is just embarrassing...it is like watching your kids first game where every situation they face is overwhelming to them.

todd to rerun

"hee hee hee hee"
Maybe it is coaching?

nooooooo.....

re:todd

Give me a break--it is not coaching..we have all seen the lazy player efforts.

Ya, that seems real plausible--a twenty year plus coach does not know how to break a zone D?

Please.

He coached 2 teams to the NBA Finals. Suddenly he does not know basketball?

These players are soft, gutless, and obviously not to smart to boot.

This team has big player personnel problems.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

Your talking practice, sounds like Iverson, Jazz can't play against a zone and can't gaurd the 3, sounds like maybe they should practice some of that. Hey Milsap, you feeling guilty yet, you should be.

Just Plain Hard Headness

This Sloan is as thick between the ears and hard headed as anyone I have EVER seen! He just refuses to change anything up EVER! Why is he still here? The man flat out cannot coach todays game and it's athletes! Change Millers or you are going to lose this team. Sloan is to the Jazz what the politicans are to washington D.C. Start the cheer at games fans that you want Sloan gone and keep it up. Force the issue here, make a change happen because status quo is not getting it done anymore, this mans time has long passed him by.

Miles

Some reality until CJ and Korver are back, we will struggle against the zone defenses. Injuries can make a good team, bad. That is the case of the Jazz. Interesting that when Boozer and Millsap were out last year, the team didn't struggle like it is with CJ and Korver out. You guys might have it all wrong. Maybe CJ and Korver are more important to the team than Boozer and Millsap at half the cost.

re-run, but...

Re-run, yes. Past couple of seasons, no. Difference? Korver. Say all you want about Korver not being good enough on defense, or good enough at creating his own shot, etc., etc., etc. Whether some like it or not, the jazz were in dire need of a deep threat when they acquired Korver, and for those with short memories... the zone D was busted to *hit when Korver arrived. Whether he's nailing 3's or having an off-night, when it comes to the zone D played against the Jazz, when Korver is on the floor, it makes a difference. Even CJ doesn't have the reputation needed to break the zone... if he starts nailing a bunch of 3's, yes a team might change up the defense, but he's unproven, where Korver is a well known threat that opponents guard NO MATTER WHAT. Again, for those that are a bit slow... even if his shot isn't dropping, having an off year, injured, WHATEVER... if he's out there, he will open up things inside because he's earned the respect he receives from opponents.

Jerry, how about letting the team finally wear headbands if they want? Why are you being a nazi about this? Do you also check their underwear to see if everyone's underwear matches? Ridiculous.

2 Words

No shooters.

gdog3

Everything gives the Jazz a headache.

But seriously, of course teams will zone up on the Jazz because they have no outside shooting with Korver, Miles, Price, and now D Will out. Brewer is a shooting guard that can't shoot, and AK throws up more airballs than an average high school player.

Out of the time out last game the ran in the 4th quarter a play where Memo ran to the top of the key, the Jazz swung the ball to the side and they passed the ball to Memo for an open 15 foot jump shot. All I want to see in the zone is the open 15 foot jump shot from Memo. If the Zone players comes out to guard him Boozer and AK crash the board on both sides of the rim. This play should work 100% of the time.

The truth is that Sloan is not calling the plays - Williams is. Sloan know how to break a zones - That is why the Jazz practiced it. If the opponents is taking away the paint hit the mid range jumper.

Maybe they should try drafting a shooting guard who can shoot from outside . Just a crazy thought.

Headache

Coach Sloan gives me headaches...bring back Almond Joy...he is a "shooting" guard.
