Re: Jeff Neilson

Dude, it's not that hard to buy tickets. Don't expect handouts. If you're a fan, go out and buy some tix.
How much is that worth? | 6:48 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Hmmm, considering the fact that they give out all the tickets for free, attendance is on the decline, and Americans in general find soccer as exciting as watching an ant farm, I think Checketts should pay Hansen to take it.

Considering you just like to make stuff up, I'll listen carefully to you and then believe the opposite of whatever you say.
Re: How much is it worth | 10:08 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Dude, get a clue before you spout of ridiculous rhetoric. Check attendence stats. You'll see that RSL had an increase in attendence this year over last year. Just like the Jazz and other teams, RSL does give out a few free tickets. They're so popular they are always gone before I can get there to get some so like the vast majority of the 17,000+ fans in the stadium I buy mine. Obviously attendence figures show that American's like watching ant farms. Being a born and bred American I can tell you soccer is much more exciting than the other popular sports. You should open your mind (trust me it won't hurt) and experience soccer. The beauty of the game and the passion of the fans is second-to-none, even here in the US.
interesting | 10:16 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
ive never gotten a free ticket to an rsl game....

The statement about soccer being extremely boring to watch is completely untrue.. Sure Major League soccer might not be the funnest to watch, but neither is d-league basketball.. When the talent is here Americans come out in the hundreds of thousands.. The world soccer challenge in the u.s. is evidence of that.
250,000 players of american football in the world.
100,000,000 million soccer players. Think about the talent pool feeding into soccer! I go where the athletes are.

This is great news for us RSL fans, to have a local owner coming in and helping make sure the franchise is succesful for years to come! Go Real!

Do not answer to somebody that have no idea what he is talking about Even with the naive management that MLS enjoy they are making tons o money ....

Oooh And by the way...One World Soccer Final is bigger than 36 SUPERBOWL combine together ....Soccer is a PLANET EVENT WHETHER THEY LIKE IT OR NOT...

Ho Ho boy is back and still using the same old lines.
Hard to believe someones life is so empty that posting anti soccer blogs on a soccer site can make him tick.
@ Re: How much is it worth | 11:02 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
First of all, I'm not a dude, I'm a female...but your sexism is noted. Second, I used to play soccer and I used live in a "soccer" country. I quit soccer because I hated it and thought the people in the soccer country were weird.

Soccer is a boring, wimpy game enjoyed by people who are afraid of American sports.
Darn, | 11:32 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
I was hoping to make some mad money so I could buy RSL. Lame!
@ the person who hates soccer | 12:06 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
If you hated soccer, why did you play it in the first place. Also, the fact that you reason that it is because "people in the soccer country were weird" shows how shallow, judgmental and ignorant you really are. How can you judge a sport (not to mention a whole country) based on some "weird people". Either grow up or act like you are. Your opinion (if you can call it that) has already lost merit when you started spewing your lies (they do not give all their tickets for free). As for being wimpy, besides boxing there is a reason why soccer is #2 in terms of head injuries. No offense to football fans (im an NFL fan as well) but all that padding really shows how macho we americans are right? When i vacationed in australia, americans are considered wimpy due to the fact that our top sport resmebles their top sport(Rugby) but the only difference is that rubgy players dont need padding.

I used to think soccer was boring and hoped that RSL would go away. But then I started working with some soccer fanatics and went to three RSL games this year and a couple when they were still at Rice-Eccles. While I am not yet ready to buy season tickets, I am impressed with their speed and quickness and their ball handling skills. I like going to the games and the atmosphere around the games. I like the people banging the drums for 90 minutes and throwing crete paper on the field after a goal. Trying doing that at a Jazz, BYU, or Utah game and you would get kicked out. Just for your info, I am a 40 year old white male, born and bred American, and a staunch heterosexual.
Re Re: Jeff Neilson  | 1:06 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
really???? Go Fire
Wimpy?!?!?!?! | 1:50 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
I grew up playing American football and wrestling and never had I had came off the field or mat more exhasted then when I walked off the pitch for my first year of varisty soccer. Also my only serious injuries (broken ribs, and a broken leg) were not from so called Macho sports like football or wrestling (I dislocated my fingers in wrestling and sprained my ankle in football) but from soccer. Get a clue, step up into a wall on a free kick and let me know just how wimpy you have to be to stand in a a free kick?
re: Utahn | 2:01 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Nice soccer conversion story. Too bad it's B.S. and you're just an RSL employee trying to put lipstick on a pig.
More money for the team | 2:27 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
I hope we can get a Designated Player now that the other own is super rich.
What an Idiot | 4:37 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
How dumb does this Hansen guy have to be? Hasn't RSL had financial Problems since day 1? Soccer may be the Number 1 sport outside of America, but will never be better than 5-6 in America. Watching Swimming is more exciting than watching Soccer. I love how these guys make a little Money and want to own a sports Franchise. Ask the Miller Family how much they are going to Lose on the Jazz and the Bees this year. Sports Franchises are very hard Business to make money in unless you are the Cowboys or a Big City High Profile Team. There is a Good Reason why Dave is Selling 49%, Hes not a Dumb man. The team needs Cash, Plain and simple. Guy is an Idiot to throw away Money on RSL and then have to help fund the Losses in the coming years. Now that sounds fun.
Chadders | 4:47 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
I think it is hilarious so many people hate on RSL. I'd assume the majority of those people are NBA, NFL or MLB fans? At least RSL fans know that MLS isn't fixed and players aren't using steriods.
Soccer is the world's game. If more Americans would get over their bais against anything we don't do the best they would realize why it is called the beautiful game.
I hope this developer brings a passion for RSL and some knowledge about the history of the game. It would kinda suck if he is also interested in trying to have PKs decide regular season games.
to: Chadders | 5:26 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
You may think people hating RSL is funny, but nobody is laughing about tax money being spent to fund the stadium. They should get rid of the team, level the ugly eyesore, sell the land, and reimburse the taxpayers with interest!
Re: Sawkrfan | 8:32 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Couldn't agree more! Having a local buying 49% is fantastic! Go RSL!
Soccer... yuk | 9:39 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Please buy it and move it!
MLS | 10:42 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
For the MLS take the announced attendance and minus 6000 and then you have the actual paid attendance. MLS misleads the public more than any sport. So if MLS Teams announced 17,000 try more like 10,000 paid maybe. It is not just RSL, it is the whole league.
haters haters haters.... | 10:56 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
I'm just gonna sum up everything incorrect about what the stupid(and I mean that literally) soccer haters are saying..

@to: Chadders. You aren't paying a cent towards the stadium unless you stay in a hotel in salt lake county.. Rio Tinto is no eyesore. It's a beautiful stadium. Ask anyone who has ever attended and rsl game or a concert.

@what an idiot: You really have no idea what you are talking about, The average mls team is worth about 40 million dollars. RSL is one of 5 teams that will turn in a profit in the league. The value of mls teams goes UP every year unlike most other sports in the country. So in fact it is a good investment. I'm just taking a guess but i would say the investor will fork over about 20 mil. Attendance is up in a down economy!!!

No i'm not an rsl employee. Just a soccer fan. I found all of this info out on google.

waaaaahhh | 11:00 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Oh no soccer is doing great in Utah.. waah waaaa waaa. 5 years ago you were saying how there was absolutely no way this team would make it in utah. We just dont have the demographics for soccer. Now we have a beautiful stadium, a solid fan base, and a playoff team. Face it, it's time to eat a slice of humble pie and admit you were wrong!

Or you can live in denial the rest of your life.. Fine by me.
haters haters haters.... | 11:11 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
@ MLS: Prove it. It's easy for someone to just spout out lies and call it factual. So let's see the proof! RSL is turning in a profit. In order to do that they need at least 12,000 fans paid a game. So already what you are saying is incorrect. Where exactly are you getting your info? Yourself?????
nice try.
MLS | 8:32 a.m. Nov. 12, 2009
I like RSL and what it brings to Utah, I love the World Cup and is one of the great sporting events. RSL is not making Money, Checketts said himself on the Radio that it would take several years after the stadium is built to turn a profit, the value of RSL does go up. I am not a hater at all, I just know the facts. I hope RSL Wins the Championship.
Anonymous | 9:25 a.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Haters, say what you want. I love soccer. My brother and sisters love soccer. My parents love soccer. My children love soccer. My wife loves soccer. Her family now likes soccer. Good luck spouting your nonsense because it's not going to change a thing. Soccer popularity is growing, professional soccer is in it's infancy in the States but it's growing in popularity faster than all the other sports combined. Soccer rocks.
nerves | 9:26 a.m. Nov. 12, 2009
If you want the Rio T leveled than are you just as willing to level the ESA? Why is it OK to have a pro basketball team here, but not a pro soccer team?
As long as you are just as willing to move the Jazz as you are RSL than you can have your opinion. If your just mad that some tax money is being spent on soccer specifically, than you are just sports biased and full of hot air. Let people enjoy what they like. Just because you don't like soccer doesn't give you the right to try and take it away from others.
Chadders | 11:23 a.m. Nov. 12, 2009
The tax $$ that was used for RioT was for tourism and could be used for no other purpose. I was at the all-star game and sat by 4 Seattle fans, a few (LA) Galaxy fans and even some people that were (Chicago) Fire fans. I also saw people wearing pretty much every jersey for teams that had players in the allstar game. Oh and there was a huge section of British people above me. So yeah... I'd say it has already brought some tourism. The MLS all-star game was watched in over a hundred countries. RSL is clearly a business that's value is rising. If I were a billionaire I would try to buy it all out.
re nerves | 11:48 a.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Level them both.
MLS | 12:27 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
I found top ten FAN Bases in Pro Sports from the bleacher report

10: Dallas Mavericks
9: Buffalo Sabres
8: Toronto FC
7: MOntreal Candians
6: Washington Redskins
5: Boston Red Sox
4: Calgary flames
3: Green Bay Packers
2: Chicago Cubs
1: Manchester United.

So The MLS was represented in this list With FC Toronto over 16,000 season tickets holders. RSL has a long way to go a bet RSL only has around 7000 at the most. But soccer is represented,
re MLS | 2:00 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Keep in mind that Toronto is in Canada, not the US. Soccer will never compete in the US.
Cry me a river | 5:38 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
I did not realize there were people who didn't like soccer. I'm so glad they share this with us. I for one really, really care what they think. I base my entire life around soccer haters posting on this website. I promise to do whatever the soccer haters say.

RSL needs to end Blanco's MLS career. RSL 2 Chicago 1.
RE: cry me a river | 5:53 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009
you care enough to make a post about it. Go RSL
Wow | 3:18 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
I think its funny that all these ignorant people sit and read the Articles on
RSL, make comments and talk about RSL, and then try saying how no one cares about soccer in Utah, way to make your point guys....
