Good luck Utes | 3:04 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
It's going to be a tough game in Forth Worth. Part of me really wants to see the Utes get the upset, but part of me knows that TCU is heads and shoulders above the rest of the MWC and that they'll repeat Utah's BCS heroics this year.

The game Saturday probably won't be a blowout for TCU, but the game won't be in question by the time the fourth quarter rolls around. TCU 28, Utah 13

Silly Utes | 3:33 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
The Utes just barely won Wyoming, a team BYU just beat 52-0. TCU deserves that #4 ranking. Don't get me wrong, I give all props to the Utes for last year, but they will lose handily this week and drop in the polls.
Utes will win... | 4:00 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009

Good luck Utes, I'm cheering for you. This game may be on over here in Iraq, so I may get to watch it. Going to be by far the toughest match yet. Let's play hard Utes, get the upset!

Cougs listen up who is ranked higher Utah or BYU??? Who has only lost one game? Who has lost two? Who still has an outside shot at a BCS game this year on a rebuilding year? Who has won 2 BCS games? Who won their bowl game last season? Who lost? No matter how many times Utah beats BYU the Cougs fans will still make the claim that the Cougs are better give it up and face reality until the Cougs beat the Utes AND win a bowl game i think BYU fans should not post any comments.

BYU may have beat Wyoming, but the Utes actually won them. Their trophy case must be busting at the seams.

TCU 48 UTAH 10
RE: Silly Utes | 4:23 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
It's comments like yours that make me laugh at BYU fans. Comparative scoring is pointless and means nothing, however is a staple in BYU fans' arsenal when it comes to bagging on the Utes. Factors are different day in and day out, teams have different personnel, preparation is different, etc. It's apples and oranges week in and week out. Historically BYU has thrashed lesser MWC foes, whereas Utah has had it's share of troubles (particularly with Air Force and New Mexico). IF your theory of comparative scoring indicating future results held true, it would mean BYU should consistently beat Utah. This hasn't been the case, though. In the last ten years (And I'm picking ten because it's a nice easy number) BYU has averaged 21 points per game in the rivlary, whereas Utah has averaged 26.3. Outside of 2004, I would imagine BYU probably has a higher point per game average than Utah. So comparative scoring means nothing pal. Wins can be pretty or ugly, but they are still wins, and losses can be close or blowouts (see all BYU losses in the last 2 years) but they're still losses.
RE: Silly Utes | 4:26 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
So if we're going off of scores, what happens if BYU beats New Mexico by fewer points this week than Utah did last? Does that mean Utah is the better team? On that same note, if Utah loses by less than 31 to TCU, does that mean they're better than BYU? Please, comparing scores is stupid and pointless. Teams match up completely differently against each other, and week in and week out there are so many factors playing into each game that it doesn't provide any basis for comparison.
same story | 4:47 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
it's the same story different year... coog fans spout off every year about how many points they beat another team by vs how many points the Utes beat someone by... how many times does it have to be proven to you that it does not matter.

I admit it would be nice to have some bigger wins throughout the season but you can learn different things from every game. For instance, we have learned that your coogs can not play with athletic teams with good speed. For some reason Bronco doesn't "prepare" them well enough to win those games.

The thing you may want to take notice of is that Utah is the only team in the MWC with a winning record against TCU since they joined the conference. TCU does have an amazing team this year and the Utes will have a very difficult time beating them. What does not factor into the game at all is how many points you beat Wyoming by. Utah has been in some tough tight games this year and they have won most of them - one thing they haven't done is laid down to the competition.

Go Utes!!!
Misleading statistic | 5:05 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Whittingham is eager to brag about his offensive line only giving up 13 sacks, but anyone who watched the Air Force game knows that's quite misleading. He's just whistling past the graveyard, hoping to ignore the unpleasant reality.

The Air Force linebackers and DBs were in the Cain's face all night long; the only reason they didn't sack him more was because he either threw an incomplete pass at the last second or ran out of the pocket.

Despite the supposed great play of the O-line, this version of Utah's offense is producing far less than last year's. In 2008 Brian Johnson might have been able to engineer a last-second comeback, but this year Jordan Wynn won't.

Utah is going to loose.
Utah is going to loose big!
Utah is not playing like a top 20 team. Barely winning games against conference teams.
TCU is playing like a top 4 team.
TCU has everything to play for.

So sorry runnin utes. the only place you will be running is off the field to the airplane as fast as you can. HAHAHA. I recording it to watch Utah loose big. I mean BIG!!!!!!!!

Comparative Scoring | 6:19 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
isn't a good idea. It's hard to compare. Still, the point of doing that is because the Utes have been winning some games like Iowa has done -- just barely when they should win handily. Pulling out games to inferior teams is still the mark of a pretty good team, but one that is ripe for being exposed. This week is the test for the Utes. Are the Utes for real, or have they been doing well against a very weak schedule? No need for trash talk. Let it play out on the field.

Cougar Fan | 6:46 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
I'm a BYU fan. I will be very surprised if Utah hangs with TCU. I think Utah is going to get destroyed. Utah just hasn't looked good all year. However, I completely thought Utah would be annihilated by Alabama last year and we all know how that went. Also, Whittingham is good at preparing for big games. We'll see what happens. If I'm surprised by Utah again I'll give 'em props but I honestly think the U is going to get worked over.

The BYU-UTAH game holds a lot more intrigue as both teams are good and a little more even. I of course believe BYU will win in the end.

Go Cougars!
The Guild of Calamitous Intent | 6:47 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
I love how BYU fans are going off of points scored against common opponents. Using this logic BYU would only lose to Texas buy 2 because they only beat Oklahoma 16-13 on a neutral site.

I also note that the writer "Listen Up" forgot either the ending apostrophe or the letter "g" in "runnin".

To all the people that say Utah is not as good as last year and Wynn is no Johnson, no kidding. Going undefeated is a special thing, it rarely happens and the Utes have been able to do it twice this decade. Only having one loss this season is pretty impressive, win or lose against TCU the Utes will play hard and compete and make no excuses if they happen to lose.

Why do so many people claim Utah will lose. Especially BYU fans!!!
I admire how Utah has pulled of some tough games.

Let me ask you this; Would you rather squeak by the easy games but win the big ones or destroy the easy opponents and blow it when it matters?

BYU lacks something that Utah has had for the last decade. I think BYU even has better athletes but they lack that edge they need when it counts.

It's ute fans like you who make me chuckle inside. It is so funny that you talk about who is ranked ahead of who and that "Cougs fans will still make the claim that the Cougs are better..." The fact is that BYU has had better seasons than Utah overall. Since you seem to love using the rankings as a way to show who is better let's see who has finished their seasons ranked in the AP poll throughout the years.

BYU- 16 finishes in the Top 25
Utah- 4 finishes in the Top 25

Okay, I will go easy on you. We'll start from Utah's very first Top 25 finish in 1994...

BYU- 6 finishes in the Top 25 (since 1994)
Utah- 4 finishes in the Top 25 (since 1994)

So, until the utes actually prove they have so much success I think they should not post any comments.

You got it wrong | 12:55 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
There's no way that TCU puts up a score like 48 points against Utah. The person that put "TCU 48, Utah 10." You have to remember that TCU is playing one of the best teams in the conference and a team with very good defense. There is no way that Utah will give up 6 or 7 TD's. The game will be close. Utah's offense has to be able to move the ball and put up points every opportunity they get in order to stay in the game, but I feel very comfortable saying that TCU will also struggle moving the ball. Listen, if TCU scored 14 points against Clemson and 20 points against Air Force, then they are not putting up 48 against Utah. You guys completely overestimate the ability of TCU. It's not like Utah is playing an NFL team on Saturday.
Re: mary jensen | 1:32 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
I don't care what happened 100 years ago. Right now, Utah is dominating it.
RE: You got it wrong 12:55 | 2:42 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
You've got it right. The yewts may not give up 6 or 7 TD's, but they will fumble the ball at least that many times to keep their average FPG alive.

Watch how many interseptions they throw!!!!
re: You got it wrong | 6:09 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Your probably right about TCU's offense going up against your D. Utah traditionally has a very good defense - I wish the cougars could get some defense that looked more reminiscent of yours. However, I don't think it is the TCU offense that should scare you. You're going into TCU's house with a freshman quarterback who has one start(?) under his belt. TCU's defense is what you need to worry about. Look for the TCU D to put up more points than your offense. I could be wrong but their D is probably as good as any team in the nation right now.
Will Have Them Ready | 6:55 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Whittingham will have the team ready for Saturday. Unlike some coaches in the conference Whittingham realizes that all games are not created equal. It isn't just about commitment and execution. Some games are huge and you better act like it!

TCU helmets on the tackling dummies, TCU jerseys with actual player numbers on the scout team and blasting music during wind sprints at the end of practice are just a few of the things Whittingham is using to communicate to his team that this one is big. By the way, I bet those wind sprints at the end of practice go until the last second allowed by the NCAA. He doesn't cut practice short for hangnails and paper cuts like some coaches. Whittingham grows them two ways, tough and tougher. That is why the Utes will be there in the 4th quarter.

I don't know who will win. I hope the Utes win. I can tell you that neither team is scoring more than 4 touchdowns and the margin of victory will be 10 points or less. Both defenses are too good for a lopsided victory either way or tons of points.
Re: big green tractor | 7:16 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Where you watching it in Iraq? It's a tough call, i want the Utes to win, but what if, a big what if, TCU runs the table and the stars align and they get a shot at the title? What do you go with, allegiance to school, or big picture respect?
Once Again | 8:03 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009

This is the week that the Utes and their fans lose some of their delusions.

It is no longer 2008 and the Utes are making a habit of struggling against mediocre teams.

TCU 37
Utah 13

It's the game in Provo that will be close.
re: Once Again | 9:10 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Is it really that hard to see why Cougar fans would be interested in a big game concerning its chief rival? The connection doesn't seem that hard to make to me. I do agree that the anger is unnecessary but those Cougar fans suggesting that Utah is going to lose isn't what I would call angry.
Huge loss | 9:12 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
A terrible Utah offense won't be able to score, but a decent Utah defense will slow TCU down, but just a little.

TCU 35 utah 0

Sorry Utes, it's the year of the Horned Frog!
Zoob Fans... | 9:25 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
want a big TCU win because they want the Utes to join them in their sorrow.... misery loves company...

If the Utes win or keep it close then they will have to acknowledge that they are in deed the 3rd best team in the conference... but if the Utes get blown out then they can feel better about themselves... who has little brother syndrome???

And forget the comparative scores arguement to define how great you think your team is, thats why the games are played (weren't the zoobs declaring themselves as NC after going 1-0 this year)... the zoobs may win pretty, putting up all those points, but when they lose, it is UGLY!!!!

I'll take the ugly wins the Utes are putting up and day of the week...
Biffula | 9:33 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
The big thing that's going to make the difference is Utah's QB situation. That Frosh is going to be like a deer in the headlights. The TCU D is going to shred him. TCU 24, Utah 6.
You got it wrong | 12:55 a.m. | 9:36 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
I hate to break it to you but the ute defense is not as good this year as you think. TCU will run the ball right down your throat all night long. Then, their defense will force your pathetic offense into multiple 3-and-outs and start the cycle over again.

You'd better hope that your weak offensive line can give Wynn enough time to hook up with Reed on some long bombs because that is the only way you even stay in this game. Be prepared to see Cain at QB in the second half ... Wynn will be either rattled or injured.
Mike Johnson Fallon NV | 9:37 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Let's see. Texas is 3rd and Texas Christian is 4th. I wouldn't call that a distant second in Texas.

The only reason the commenter had TCU winning 48-10, was to predict Utah losing by more than the 31 points BYU lost to TCU at home.

I suspect it will be a close game.

If the game goes according to the script, TCU will solidify their position, getting past their last legitimate speed bump.

But, what happens if Utah wins? Utah hasn't had respect all year long, but if Utah wins, that will change.

Until the TCU game last year, Utah didn't look all that good either, barely beating teams they should have easily beat.
re: Zoob Fans.... | 9:52 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
The Scoring Comparison Analysis is not limited to BYU fans alone. Utes do it all the time. Both school's fan base is comprised of low class individuals that make us all look bad.

I must admit there is some truth to the misery loves company statement. I'm a cougar fan and would like some company when it comes to getting humiliated.

As for BYU being the third place team in the conference there is only one way that will be determined and that is in Utah beating BYU which will be tough. I have no doubt BYU is a very good team but for whatever reason they choke in big games - the Oklahoma game being the exception as of late. I don't think they will choke against Utah but that is just my opinion and only time will tell.
It Just Doesn't Matter | 9:54 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Whit could spend 6 months preparing for the Frogs and the Utes would still lose; TCU is that much better.

Better team.
More motivation.
Home field.
Equal or better preparation.
Better coaching.
More experience.
Better talent across the board.

Bottom line:

the best that Utah can hope for is a moral victory

but, Utah lost to TCU by less than BYU

TCU 45
Utah 14

BYU fans.... | 10:13 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Until BYU can do something about last year's blowout against Utah (48-24), they really need to stop talking trash. Who cares about Colorado or New Mexico or anyone else? Honestly BYU fans need to be quiet.
Blowout!!! | 10:38 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Utah is now 20 point underdog. Any ute fan who thinks Utah will win should put bet everything. 20 points!!!! Apparantly it's not only Byu fans that think Utah doesnt have a chance.
