I'm no Obama fan, but this can't be an easy part of an already tough
job. He seems to have done well with the responsibility, however.

This is the first terrorist attack on the United States since 911. What a
surprise that it would happen 10 months into Obama's Presidency. I was no
fan of President Bush, but this is exactly what we were warned about if Obama
took office. Obama owes more than "healing words" to the families of
these men. He needs to explain why his administration was incapable of
protecting them.

story and/or the event. I have no idea what you are trying to express.
Further, I think it is in poor taste to attempt, even unsuccessfully, to turn
such a tragedy into an occasion for political posturing or lecturing.

Does Obama expect us to believe that the Allah of suicide bombers isn't
encouraging them to kill?
There is every reason to believe that Hasan felt he was pleasing his God by killing soldiers.
And our war on terror hinges on that fact.
It was a fine speech but the president has trouble with theology and should steer clear of it in his remarks.

I was too stocked by both your insensitivity and rude behavior.
As a veteran who signed up when your heroes were dodging the draft. Do you have any manners. You parents filed you miserably. This is about a moral service, but your lack of moral clarity wants to turn this into a liberal bashing section.
To the editors here, this offends this veteran to the bone. Why not, tomorrow's veterans day. Being Vietnam Era veteran, what better memories of my return to home than reading this insulting remark. That attacks me and ruins honoe our president tried giving these soldiers.
What a vile thing to let be published.

anything right?
How blind the people of Utah are. George Bush was the worst President of the United States Ever. Even a 3rd grader knows this. For 8 years no one in the US could even visit a forign Country and admit in public that they were from the United States. People in Utah would eat a mile of BS to find out if it came out of George Bush. And you post on this page that he was a good President? Do you actually believe yourself? Donald Duck would have made a better President than George Bush. George was on vacation for 8 years. You think the mess the US is in now is Obamas fault? Obama is cleaning up the mess George made, and do you think he can clean up this mess in a year or two? Think again. George had a great time spending our money on war after war and no one said boo about where the money was going to come from. Now he is out of office and he handed you the bill! Well start paying.

Bush? You forgot that he was also a Christian, that has to be his greatest sin
of all. Imagine all those prayers he offered for the safety of the nation and
the troops.Discussing! Much better to have someone who isn't weighed down
with such trivia. Who declares there is no such thing as a

How about we all shut up and worry about those mean and women who put their
lives on the line to keep us safe, it's not a political debate that this
page talks about it's about how brave this men and women are, lets start
showing respect and let the world know we are a freedom country and we stand

George Bush had a nice economy for his first 6 years. When the Dems took over
Congress things went down and are still going down. 10% of the Mosques here have
clerics teaching Jihad. If Muslims are so anti terrorism how come they are not
enlisting and making their opposition to terrorism known publicly? I am afraid
we are in for a long war with militant Muslims. Obama has put his hand of
friendship forward to Iran, Chaves, etc. As long as he does not ask anything of
Europe they will love him.

I refuse to read the previous posts for fear that some may have digressed into
worthless, partisan diatribe, and I really don't want to risk swimming in
that cesspool of cynicism. I watched most of the Commander-in-Chief's
speech before I had to get ready for a class I had to teach, and regardless of
what one may think of Pres. Obama's politics, I believe that he did a
wonderful job of speaking heart-to-heart to the military family, indeed, to the
entire freedom-loving world. It's at times such as this that we must set
aside all partisan rancor and focus on the bigger picture. Thirteen people
perished in a setting in which they expected, and rightfully so, that they would
be safe from the crosshairs of harm and danger. What a tragedy, and what a
waste of human life. I applaud Pres. Obama for his statement that the
perpetrator would receive justice in this life and in the life to come.

rich. one of the groups feels poor people that do not have a job do not deserve
health insurance. the other group feels everyone should have it. one group loves
to give the war machine all the money they ask for. yet the other group would
like to give some of that money to the poor. one side wants all social services
of government reduced. and the other wants more money to go to help those less
fortunate. one side hates minorities, and feels better with whites all around
them, the other side feels sad that hate is all around us..
this is not a democrat v. republican fight, it is a fight of good v. evil. this is why we fight, it is a good fight, one worth fighting. so people, don't tell me to shake hands with the other side and smile. i don't like the other side, i don't like what i see. and they don't like me. so pick a side and may the best side win. don't just sit on a fence.

I feel a sense of sorrow for the lives taken in this senseless act. Americans
who felt a sense of responsibility and need to contibute to our mutual defense
gave their lives at a time and place that they did not expect. I see errors
that all politicians have made in the past and feel no allegiances other than to
the sacrifices made by people defending the last gasp of freedom. I think I am
a romantic, wishing we had the spirits of Washington and Jefferson to guide us.
But it is a challenging time for the country the world has looked up to for a
century to lead, inspire, and protect.

I'm more afraid of the extremists that bombed the Oklahoma building. Our extremists are the same as the nut jobs we call the Taliban. The far right has become very strange over the years. They hate everyone not like them.

Left or Right? Democrat or Republican? I like the comment above about good v.
evil. We need to ask ourselves if we are doing the right thing? Let's take
a step back and open our eyes and ask what is going on around here. Why do we
fight about taking action that will help others? I pay taxes like everyone else.
I just want to see my taxes do the right thing for people. In fact, I'm not
going to call it Taxes any more. I'm going to just call it Charity. I want
to see my Charity going out to others less fortunate than myself. I want to see
my taxes/charity paying for an old persons Rx. I want to see my taxes/charity
paying for people that can't take care of themselves. The Government takes
more than 28% of what I make. And I don't have a problem with that one bit
as long as I know it is not being spent on wars that we do not need or giving
tax breaks to the super rich. As long as my Taxes/Charity helps others, I like
paying it.

Life in this century should make us aware that there are no guarantees, that not
every threat can be anticipated and thwarted, and not every mind can be
cataloged and subdivided for future preventative purposes.

George. Yes, Clinton handed George Bush the biggest surplus of all time in
American history. And what did George do with the ball. He handed it off to
Obama who now has to make 50 yard touch down just to tie up the game.

The words of the President were really inspiring in the midst of the pain,
sadness and rage that is within our hearts in this terrible moment. The sight
of those empty boots broke my heart. This action of the President and his
symbolically representing the nation at the arrival of our dead sodiers reminded
me, unfortunately of the cowardly denial of President Bush who actually forbade
the sights of the coffins of our soldiers.
Not much could be, nor can be expected of a man who mocked a woman pleading for her life before her exeution when he was governor.
May we all unite in the honoring and loving of our soldiers and their leaders.
