I don't know if the Utes can pull it off, but I love the fire so far this week in preparing for Saturday. Sssh, don't tell Bronco that getting fired up actually can be a good thing.

I like the Utes if the following big if factors can take place. 1) The Ute offense forces the issue and plays to win (breaks the mold). 2) The Utes avoid turnovers (achilles heel). 3) The defense is prepared and mixes their usual winning ingredients (most likely of the three unless the offense turns the ball over and keeps the defense on the field to long).

The normally conservative Ute offense has to open it up with Wynn. They did last week, which resulted in season highs in all offensive categories. With TCU's defense, the young gunslinger needs to make good decisions, but the Utes have to open up the playbook and play aggressive nonetheless. Wynn is a gamble, but even at this stage in his young career, he gives the Utes the best shot at an upset.

Coach whit, you will have two confrence loses this year

Game is all about.... | 8:01 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
1)Protecting Wynn. O-Line must be able to block 4 with no issues, and has to pick up middle-blitzers long enough to allow Wynn to get the ball out. If TCU gets to Wynn and rattles him early, going to be a long day.

2)Containing Dalton. TCU will get yardage on the ground, but what we can't do is let Dalton get out of the pocket and scramble. He doesn't look downfield to pass when he scrambles, but he's shifty enough to keep getting first downs. Our D-Tackles need to get a good push, but will have to be ready to break off the block and keep Dalton from running. Having Kruger start instead of Eliapo will help with his.

3)Fumbles. Cannot give away cheap fumbles on Saturday. Everyone has to secure the ball on first contact. I'd expect Wynn to throw an INT or even 2, but we can't give them short fields with fumbles.

Should be a close game, the line is ridiculous and Whit will have the team pissed come gametime.
Boise State Fan | 8:05 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Sorry, but the EWES 4 fumbles in the 1st quarter and then a couple of interceptions in the 3rd will total brings the yewties back to reality.

Sorry, EWES, but you will not catch B.S. this year

TCU 48
Utah 10

It will be a long plane ride home for the utes, might as well start getting fired up for the byu game. Hey (gdog3) TCU35-UTES 13.
Re: Bear Laker | 8:23 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
You are right, it won't be that close. Utah will win. Go UTES!!!

Need to Bring Down the System! | 9:46 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Everyone needs to realize that the best thing for the BCS would be for TCU to be included in the National Championship. For 20 years the powers that be will point to that and say "We don't need to change, TCU got to play in the Title Game in 2009?"

The best thing for the demise of the BCS would be for TCU to be left out of the Championship in favor of a 1-loss team and a top-5 Boise State team to be left out of the BCS since they are only required to take one non-qual team (TCU). THAT would really raise the ire...and possibly bring major change to the current system.

None of that means anything if they lose to Utah, even if the U wins, there is no chance they will go to the BCS with one loss...so GO FROGS! It's the best thing for the conference and for the demise of the BCS system.
One of these things... | 9:50 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
...is not like the other.

The New Mexico defense is near the bottom of national and conference rankings.

The TCU defense is ranked #1 in the nation.

Unless TCU completely falls apart like they did last year (how many short field goals did their kicker miss?) this will be an easy win for them.
I Love it | 9:53 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
The bigger the predicted point difference in favor of TCU, the BETTER it is for the UTES.
The Utes are always supposed to 'lose big', against the good teams. But the UTES always put a 'whoopin' on the good teams that were supposedly going to just thump them.
Keep up the lopsided predictions in favor of tcu. It's better for the Utes.

Go UTES!!!!!!!
kw | 10:08 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
A few years ago Utah had Texas on their schedule and Utah cancelled them. If I remember it was Chris Hill that asked for the games to be cancelled. If someone remembers this, enlighten us on why he would do that. Wyoming had the chance to play them this year and took advantage of it.
The same Hughes and Dalton | 10:09 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Are you talking about the same Dalton we have picked off 4 plus times in last two games, the same one we get to fold over the last couple years?

Is this the same Hughes that touched (and then lost his grip)BJ once last year?

You confuse the Utah with TDS, TCU owns TDS, we own TCU winning 5 of 6 games and the only one win they have is off a pick play.
Sounds Familiar | 10:14 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
This is all we ever hear as Ute Fans, just like last years sugar bowl comments, How did that turn out??? Go Utes
re: Boise State Fan | 10:15 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Correction, Boise will not catch Utah this year.

Utah - 2 BCS trips
Boise - 1 BCS trip. Will be left out again this year by a MWC team.
Hawaii - 1 BCS trip
TCU - 1 likely BCS trip in January
BYU/Utah State/New Mexico/Wyoming/Nevada - 0 BCS trips
Jerry Hughes??? | 10:17 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
You mean the guy who was invisible last year at RES?

Just because he dominates BYU every year doesn't mean that translates to the Utah game. Just as it didn't last year.

But Dalton will be key. Must keep him in the pocket and give RoJo time to knock balls down.
38-7........ | 10:24 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
You had your chance at home against TCU and were routed by the faster, more athletic team. Go back to your own articles and post your bitter comments.

As far as the cougar fan posing as a Boise State fan, very funny! Don't you know that this week Boise State fans are huge Utah fans? It's their only chance at a BCS game, duh.

32-7, 38-7.... your cougars can't beat TCU so you hope the Utes can't either! Sad that your only football pleasure is hoping for the Utes to lose.

Go Utes!
Similarity... | 10:29 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Weren't people saying the same types of things when the U was about to take the field against Alabama? As a Y fan, I want a MWC team to bust the BCS, and TCU is the best shot. The cougs choked their chances away weeks ago.

A U victory would not help move the cause forward. Go Frogs!
Nate Cougar | 10:31 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
My prediction: BYU will leap Utah in the rankings this week.
Think about it.... | 10:34 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
The absolute worst possible thing that could happen is TCU getting into the NC. Why? Its simple, the BcS tools will say, "see, our system does not prevent non-aq schools from access to the nc" therefore it will not change and more than likely it will perpetuate the system. That said, the best thing that could happen is for a 12-0 tcu to get LEFT OUT of the NC game. then we have a controversy. HOWEVER, thats not gonna happen. Utes by 14. UTAH>TCU>BYU.
Re: BSU fan | 10:36 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
I find it funny you are against the U of U which is the only team left on TCU's schedule that can actually beat them. If TCU goes undefeated which they have a very good chance at doing they most likely will keep Boise State from going to yet another BCS bowl due to their pathetic schedule. But I see you are rooting against the U of U because we have reached 2 big bowls while you are still at 1. Jealousy is a horrible thing. Go UTES but if TCU wins, they deserve it. May the best team win!
Jordan | 10:42 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
I love the way that the Utes are preparing for this game! I know they will be prepared, and I am sure this will be a very great game to watch between two very good programs! I don't know if the Utes can pull this one off or not, we are just going to have to wait and see. Can't wait to see it!
Go Utes!
No Chance? | 11:58 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Just when everyone is writing the Utes off to lose big to a team that is when I get excited. This is exactly when they play their best football. Utah will come out ticked and looking for a statement game. Can't wait for game time. GO UTES!!
MJB | 12:27 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
When coach Whit has the time to prepare for a team like last years Sugar Bowl, he can accomplish great things. Let's see what he can do with only a week. I bet that TCU has been looking forward to this game for a year now. Good luck.
Re: Nate Cougar | 10:31 a.m. | 12:31 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
It's a semantics issue but BYU is NOT going to leap ahead of Utah in the polls this weeks. It is more correct to say that Utah will fall behind BYU in the polls this week.

What's the difference? Based on the games the two teams are playing this week, Utah is the one most likely to lose and likely drop farther than BYU will rise with a win over NM.

I'm sorry to nit pick but let's ensure we're clear about why BYU would end up ahead of Utah in the polls this week.

Should Utah pull off a surprise on Saturday, you can bet I will be on these boards next week to point out to you the relative position of the two teams.
Cougarf@n | 1:07 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
If Utah pulls off a surprise this week I will be the first to admit that Utah is a better team than BYU at this point in the season. I fully expect Utah to play TCU tougher than BYU did because of defensive matchups, but I think the spread for this game is just about right.

TCU 27
Utah 10

Really anything in the 10-30 point loss range is what I expect. If Utah keeps it close or wins then they are a lot better than they have demonstrated themselves to be to this point in the season. TCU is a very good team.
Anonymous | 1:15 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
TCU’s defense is 3rd in the country (#1 in the MWC), giving up an average of only 241yds and 11 points per game. This means they are particularly tough in redzone with their backs to the wall. The only team that gave them any trouble was the high-powered offense of Texas State (9th in total offense), so they will have little difficulty stopping a Ute offense that is ranked 34th (3rd in the MWC) and has some question marks at QB. Although Utah’s offense is not “high-powered”, it is one of the more consistent offenses, and should score in the high teens to low 20’s.

TCU's QB, Andy Dalton, is 3rd in Passing Efficiency in the nation, leading an offense that produces an average of 459yds per game (8th in the nation) and over 37 points (6th in the nation). They have had difficulty with tough defenses such as Clemson (12th) and AirForce (7th), and may have a bit of a challenge against a Utah defense that is ranked 18th. They should score under their average, but not by much.

TCU: 28
Utah: 17
JEALOUS KITTIES | 1:37 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Holy cow!! I can't believe the jealousy and bitterness coming from kitty fans this week. Ok, we get it, the only way you can justify getting owned by the frogs is to have the same thing happen to the Utes. The only problem I see is that the Utes own the Frogs...we've won 5 out of 6 against them and unlike the Y, we actually have a coach that gets it up for big games!!!
GO UTES!!!!

Utes play like they did against Wyoming and it's more than that!
Perfect! | 2:03 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
I think the Utes were what, 10.5 point under dogs to Alabama in the Sugar? Whit will have the boys ready for this one guaranteed. I am looking forward to an epic game between two very good football teams.

The whole argument that only the scenario of TCU winning out would be the best for the MWC is bogus. Besides, just a little prediction. If Utah wins this game and hammers BYU in Provo, they will still go to a BCS game. Cause they have respect!!!

UTESBy5 | 9:29 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Obviously I want the Utes to win and believe they have a shot because they will be prepared for this big game. However, Ute fans who are pointing to the Bama game last year you have to look at TCU and Alabama and determine whether they are a common type of opponent. Bama lost to UF and missed out on the title game. Their motivation to win in their back yard was minimal. They thought they would have no trouble with the Utes and, as many Utah players from that game have said, appeared disinterested and had quit on that game from the start. TCU, however, is hungry, angry for losing a game they should have won last year, playing at home, in front of a packed house, and have a team built of at least equal to if not superior talent. The coaching is pretty even, the other factors sure seem to favor a TCU win, even if I don't want that to happen.
BSU Fan | 11:36 a.m. Nov. 11, 2009
There is not one BSU fan "COUGARS" hoping that TCU beats Utah. They have everything to lose and everything to gain with their hopes pinned to Utah. You are just hoping beyond hope that the Utes will fall @ TCU giving you a pathetic "Chance" for a three way tie in the conference. It's not going to happen. Even if the Utes lose to TCU you will finish 3rd in the conf. due to the fact that you will suffer yet another humiliating loss @ home this season on the 28th. Wake-up people! The BCS will give out Bowl Games but they will NOT give out a NC game to a non-Q Conf. They took the heat last year, they weren't forced to change so why would they now?? The MWC will only get a Bowl Game not a NC Game. The UTES can redefine the BCS AGAIN by being the 1st 1 loss team to make it. With a win against the #4 team and a follow-up beating of another top 25 team (only if BYU can manage to stay ranked until the 28th) the UTES will be in! UTES RULE COUGARS!
prediction | 3:12 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
This game will go down to the wire. Anyone who thinks Utah won't come prepared and ready to win doesn't know Utah. Our field goal kickers will lose the game for us in the last seconds though. Our defense will play TCU better than anyone this year. TCU will give Wynn some blitz packages he hasn't seen on film yet, it is a must for Wynn to pick up and read those. This could be Utah's game. These types of games always are.
Re: What is a Ute Anyway?  | 4:05 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009

A Ute is a University of Utah sport player (bball, football, baseball, etc) who is superior than his (or her) counterpart from TDS (aka a Cougar or Cougarette).
Hey zoobies | 7:20 p.m. Nov. 11, 2009
Your tears have been delicious.

It has been especially sweet to see that you've become so embarrassed of your pathetic school, that you've resorted to pretending to be fans of OTHER teams. This has been especially true with Boise St. It's actually been of great amusement that you would choose to glom on to BSU seeing as how they actually WANT the Utes to win, thus exposing yourselves as the dishonest little bandwagoners that you've all become. Haha!

I LOVE IT!!!!

GO UTES!!!
