Alan, these men are well paid entertainers, nothing more. They have found a
formula that appeals to the fears and emotions of a portion of the people in our
country. A great number of others choose to find their entertainment elsewhere.

Are we really better off now than in the era of cronkite? If so, and this is
better off, I suppose that's dust I'd like to be left in, too. Walter
never told anyone to shut up on air. Ever. We were a more thoughtful nation. I
don't think my grapes are sour, but I also don't think that these AM
talkers make this a better society.

received 4 letters telling us how wrong it was.

Alan, these media freaks "faith in the people of the United States, the
Constitution and principles of freedom" is valid only for those who agree
with them, not for anyone with another view. Rush, Beck, Hannity, etc. are
corrosive and antithetical to American values.

Amen, Alan! So many attepmt to speak so knowingly about Conservative Talk Radio
when it is OBVIOUS to those of us who actually listen that they have never heard
more than a soundbite or two taken out of context.
I used to think Rush Limbaugh was the devil incarnate because of all I heard about him in the "main stream" media. My husband listened to him, so I started to actually hear what he had to say. At first I thought he was an arrogant blow-hard, but what he said made sense. Then I came to enjoy his personality, to recognize the bluster for bluster, and to appreciate his sincerity. And now I have a son named Rush.
To people like Patsy: This is America. It is not a crime to make a lot of money. It is the American dream. Just because they make money doing what they do doesn't change their sincerity about the things they say. The reason they are able to make SO MUCH MONEY is not because they are convincing people to believe a certain way, but because they are speaking what is already in the hearts of the people.

Isn't it entertaining to watch clips of our govt. representatives spouting
off marxists principles insted of capitalism? It just entertains the heck out

I'm a Republican and a conservative, but the few times I have tuned into
Limbaugh and similar shows, I have been quickly put off. They do not speak for
me. Much of what they say is true, but some is exaggeration (some is worse).
And even when what they say is true, their tone is usually condescending,
inflammatory, and rude.
I can only conclude that they are, above all else, in the pursuit of ratings, money, and influence; I want my dialog from people concerned with truth, dialog, and good government.
I would say the same of the likes of Rachel Maddow (only she adds the additional insult of being shrill and a leftist).

These champions of "freedom" think anal poisoning is a real argument
and it's okay to poison, burn, and beat with shovels those with whom you
disagree. It speaks for itself. It's scary that there are so many people

It is truly sad that intelligent and truthful comments, such as that of this
commentator, are destined to be followed up by a string of inane displays of
ignorance as that expressed by so many liberal posts above.
It isn’t enough that these people are so laughably ignorant of what Beck, Limbaugh, and others are really saying, but they can’t seem to resist exposing their own ignorance by making foundationless accusations and insults against them. Anyone who listens to the conservative talk show hosts, knows what they are about. We aren’t being deceived by Gale and his cohorts. The childish name calling from Liberals just makes the critics look all that much more foolish.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the Deseret News staff were able to recognize baseless liberal deceptions when they see them and thus spare its readers the annoyance of seeing falsehoods being perpetrated?

I'm not a conservative but I always respected the intellectual
underpinnings of the conservative movement. For the life of me, though, I
can't see why anyone is persuaded by the loud-mouth rantings of demagogues
like Limberg, Beck and Hannity. I avoid boors that in my real life, and I sure
wouldn't base my political views on such bigoted drivel.

Think harder: you would use logic, rather than feelings to make decisions. If you listen to liberal arguements, they are typically based on feelings.
Think for yourself: liberals attack anybody that thinks outside party lines. Look at what has happened to Joe Lieberman when he had thoughts outside of party lines.
Work just as hard, if not harder: here you are working, liberal social welfare policies do no reward working harder. See UAW benefits from GM and Chrysler, they don't have to work harder, they were given large chunks of those companies for nothing.
Be kinder, be friendlier: See liberal rants about Glenn Beck, or most any broadcast from Bill Maher.
Be Freeier: If liberals wanted more freedom, why have they pushed the Fairness Doctrine and Universal Health Care that eliminate choice.
Be happier: studies have shown that Conservatives are happier than liberals.
Have success and then share it with others: again conservatives give more to charities than liberals. Also, conservatives enact policies aimed at boosting businesses, which allows more people to share in the success of_a_company.

Be kind now. I am very upset over the actions of one person at Ft. Hood.
Having said that, it is somewhat possible to blame the Ft. Hood shootings on
Obama because of his "thoughtful" process of deciding on whether or
not to send more troops. Iraq is winding down and my son has completed three
tours of duty and I watch and listen to him and if at any time worry, I would
encourage him to seek additional mental health resources, where they exist.
Limbaugh and Beck are speaking just what most of us think about current
political scene. The Congress is all about how much money they can spend in
their district, never about who is paying for it and since they are all
millionaires anyway, they don't care about the "little"
Americans. Limbaugh and Beck do care and are not afraid to speak the collective
mind. They must being saying the truth to have so many people trying to shut
them up! I look forward to 2010 and a new President/Congress.

had. We witnessed conservatives that Fox news and talk radio appeals to. They
reminded me of uneducated white people will little going for them but that fact
they were white.

Good letter Alan, the reason he cant support a left wing radio host with an
opposing view is that none of them can stay on the air for more than a month at
at time, no one listens to them. They have nothing of substance to say and how
do you carry a daily talk show where the host supports higher taxes, abortion,
big government and all the other garbage policies they champion? They'll
try to say they stick up for the little man but in reality they keep them
captive with their enabling government reliance policies. They have nothing and
they know it and it bothers them that the right has all the audience, thus they

To vilify the messenger when you don't like the message is completely
liberal ideology...and to somehow pretend that traits of said messenger belong
to all who listen is also very "liberal". Rush shows up with an
addiction and personal problems and the left use that as their "proof"
that the right is a bunch of hypocrites....then they follow lockstep with the
incredible moral giants in Hollywood (obviously no addictions or personal issues
there) and jump on the popular causes (check the candidates and causes they tend
to support). See, the left has plenty of bad examples as well...maybe they
really believe those principles...possibly the conservatives do theirs as well!

if we were in a life or death situation, do I think Glenn Beck would take a
bullet to save my life...maybe, but probably not...do I think Obama would?...not
a chance in Hades...I can't think of a single person in the history of the
world, who has been more self serving and self worshipping than our current
president...and yet that is the very thing his supporters hate about Limbaugh
and Beck. When they have people proclaiming them the Messiah ( I heard
prominent leaders use the term for Obama) and when they descend from the clouds
being hailed by the mesmerized masses, arms outstreched in a self aggrandizing
fashion, then Beck and Limbaugh will truly be arrogant windbags. Until then,
they are merely second fiddles to the greatest windbag of all.
