As an officer who worked under Scott Duncan, I am deeply saddened by his hydrocodone-induced plight; however, I also feel that he egregiously abused his position of trust and deserves far more than paltry probation.

Mis use of drugs is NOT a crime, anymore than ADD is, it is nothing more than a mental deficiency plain and simple. The need by anyone to alter their natural state of consciousness is a personal choice driven by a feeling of inadequacy or depression. To criminalize ANYONE for a mental deficiency is neither Christian nor correct, it is only the same type of action that the Soviets propagated during the failed experiment with Communism. We have been on the wrong side of this issue for over 50 years now, when is the country going to wake up to this failure of law enforcement...?

What is the difference between someone in government, law enforcement, etc. and ordinary citizens. A young man on drugs in Texas was accused of burglary of a habitation and received 59 years. No one was home, the things were returned and no one was injured. This man is on drugs and he gets probation. There is something wrong with our justice system. How about the judge that went to prison but still gets his annual salary of over $137,000 a year. Anybody care to give an answer?

Obviously "Anonymous" has never had an addiction nor known anyone with one. I'll respect his/her opinions when he/she wears those shoes.

Let me wrap my mind around this. Flowers commuted from St. George to Salt Lake on our dime. Morris moonlighted while we were paying him to work. Now Duncan is trying to kill us with his car. So who is tending the candy store?

Double standard - again.
When will judges start holding police officers accountable for their illegal actions?

Public trust in law enforcement will suffer if this special treatment continues.

Looks like celebrity and creative lawyers have once again managed to get special privileges for a well-connected big shot.

Where's the justice in that?

Good on him for stepping forward and admitting his problem. However, this was AFTER he had already gotten a sweetheart deal and was allowed to resign after his earlier incidents.

Sorry, but no sympathy and no special treatment is deserved, especially after his initial escapades.

We cannot overlook the performance of a man who did not diminish in any other area in his life. Scott in his years of service was extrodinary!He has respect and honor for the serving our country both in war and in the service of the Department of Public Safety. Don't let a mistake of this magnitude take away from a great leader and upstanding man in State and Country. Scott's strengths far out way his weakness. Support a man who has served us without fail for many years. Put your hand over your heart and look at an American flag when you think of Scott. Remember all he has done for thousands and millions to make our country and home land free & safe.Before you judge an him too harshly pray you never have enough pain to become addicted and driven to ease it. He will pay his debt and live with the wounds. Praise him for what he accomplished and remember "he who is without sin let him cast the first stone." Scott will always have my respect and honor for all he has accomplished. One blot makes him human. No one is Perfect.

The power of these substances stuns me, because Scott is one of the finest men I know. I can tell he's trying to correct this problem, and I wish him the best. I know many who don't know him are, for some sad reason, finding joy in Scott's problem. But he'll get control of this problem and continue on being a very productive member of society and continue to be a good neighbor, citizen and friend.

Ask any defense attorney or judge. Any first time offender who turns himself in and seeks help, would get the same sentence. There was no preferred treatment here. So those of you who are who are claiming otherwise, and wishing bad for this man, maybe you're the ones who really need help in taming your feelings of cruelty.

I have known Scott for 30 + years. In my mind he is a gentleman and patriot and deserves our sympathy not scorn. All of you who would judge him look to yourselves first. As the master once said, "You must have already reached perfection, which affords you a leisure I do not possess."

This just never ends. Scott Duncan was part of Bob Flowers’ administration and look at what all those fine people have done. Earl Morris was fired from TSA. Verdi White was fired from TSA. Rick Wyse was fired from TSA. Bob Flowers left before he was caught. Scott Duncan was fired from DPS.
At least Scott went to authorities before they caught up with him. Don’t kid yourself, Scott knew that he was about to be charged and knowing the system he knew that it would go easier on him if he turned himself in.
Bob Flowers’ and his entire administration were and will continue to be a bunch of losers. We are now safer and better off with them all out of the picture. Bob is now a police chief of a no name town…so what harm can he cause there. Little does he know the people of that community know him and have little respect for him and his girlfriends.
