Fair trial? | 3:03 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I get a little tired of our "justice" system in this country. This isn't anything that is "alleged" or can't be proven from the facts that terrible day. This man was CAUGHT in the act of shooting others. THOSE ARE THE FACTS!!!! End of story. What does a "fair trial" have to do with this? Oh wait... I remember. Now we get to waste millions of tax-dollars on trying to decide if he is "mentally capable" of being convicted of man-slaughter. I'm gonna make a bold statement here.... IF HE IS MENTALLY CAPABLE ENOUGH TO KILL OTHERS WITH A GUN, HE IS MENTALLY CAPABLE ENOUGH TO BE CONVICTED OF MAN-SLAUGHTER. Some may call me an extremist for that opinion. They, obviously, don't worry about the cost to each of us now in funding the trial for this individual. I'm at a loss at this point in time. I am ALL for justice, but justice needs to be served for those individuals that he killed, and their blood cries out against him as a conviction. What more needs to be said? Someone let me know if I've missed something.

More appropriately, his lawyer is afraid that a fair trial would result in a the most severe sentence handed down to his client.
Military Justice system | 3:43 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
His trial will be under the direction of the US Army justice system. After you sign on as a militray personnel, you are no longer under the civilian law system. The militray has their own way of doing things and that's what he will be subject to. Hopefully they won't have the wimps that we have in our system handle this case. Too bad that it might be inconveinent or uncomfortable for him to answer questions or be held to tireless questioning. He lost that right when he pulled the trigger. The investigators should make it pure hell for him right now and as long as it takes to gather the info that they feel is necessary.

I'm a Liberal | 3:58 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Democrat-- I served in the United States Army as have many of my family (including sons) and friends.
When it comes to defending the Constitution of the United States of America, our freedoms and our way of life, we are all one party-- we are Americans.
This individual murdered my fellow Americans and brothers and sisters.
Justice should be swift and final.
Let him move on and have his 72 virgins on the other side but make it slow and painful.
He needs to made an example of-- politics has no place in an act like this killer pulled off.
Are the red ants still active in Texas?????

The problem with the death penalty in the military is that the President of the United States has to approve it. Obama has already commuted a death sentence of a soldier for murder & multiple rapes. If there was ever a case that warranted that punishment, this is it.
I"M no Liberal | 4:49 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I am not a Liberal, that is why I think this guy
will get off with life or 25 to life. The LIBERAL press will make sure of that. I also believe that
the ARMY will do what the Pres. tells them to do.

Military people are not the same as civilians.
We are always held to a higher code of conduct.

They will follow the UCMJ to the letter, no exceptions.
The families, man, the families | 5:15 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Let every one of those families that lost a son or daughter be given front page coverage - for several months. Let the loss sink in to Americans.

Justice should be served in this case, and it should be color-blind, impartial justice.

The military court will handle this coward fairly and then I hope they hang him. Doubt he will get hung though. I agree with liberal democrat above and I thank you for your service. Justice should not be political or motivated by politics. He was caught in the act and justice needs to be swift and final.

Isn't it amazing that those who use our constitution as an baseline dislike the right against self incrimination.

Those who are willing to sacrifice liberty for security, deserve neither.

Now, do you really think, a jury will disregard a hundred eye witnesses? Why do conservative run in circles scared, before there's even a trial? This is the military, not a jury of Seattle liberals.
