I think Matheson should run as a Republican next election if he is going against
the Democratic agenda. The only thing expensive about the health care is the
fact he is one of the republicans making a half of million or one million
dollars a year! Why didn't he speak up when George Bush Jr was spending
that kind of money on the Iraq War? He wasn't thinking about cost then!
How do you think the Middle Class Taxpayers feel? I think it's time the
politicians start contributing to the National Budget!

If ever I had thought of not voting to keep Jim Matheson in office, this article
would seal the deal. We need bipartisan lawmakers like Mr. Matheson who care
more about the issue and the people of our state than they do party affiliation.
I wonder if Mr. McCoy would donate the yearly salary increase given the
congressmen? Mr. Matheson does, and he is the only one in congress that does!

Why doesn't Matheson just declare himself a Republican and get it over
with. The longer he serves in the House the more conservative his voting record
has become. He votes with the GOP most of the time and should just admit that he
is just a Republican in Democrats clothing and make the switch.

How come we hear about spending from the right only when democrat is in the white house? Was Matherson undergoing eye/ear surgery during the squandermaniac years of GW? He needs to be held accountable - so do all the other nitwits who joined him in that to vote against spending tax payers money in a way that saves and protects American lives.

Casey Anderson has filed (gop) to run against Matheson.
Matheson is hardly conservative. He scored 36 for the American Conservative Union Ratings for 2008. Rob Bishop got 100 and Bennett got 64. Bennett is now the 8th most liberal republican US senator based on those numbers. What does that leave Matheson?

Yeah, this is a good idea. All of the conservatives who in So. Utah that have
voted for him in the past will go back to the republican party if the democrats
throw him out.

Great! We need a real Dem in that seat and not a Dem in Republican's

The Democrats in Utah would be pretty stupid to get rid of Matheson. If you get
rid of him, you will lose the general election. He is your only claim to a
state-wide Democrat in office. Sure he votes more like a Republican, but he
still has the D-UT next to his name and he votes for Pelosi to be the
speaker.
Democrats in Utah should really try and marginalize the Liberals of their party if they want to win in Utah. Most Utahns are moderate and would vote for candidates like Matheson. Instead they let the enviro-wackos, gay/lesbian groups, and commentors on the Tribune articles run the show. Matheson proves that Democrats can win in Utah when they have common sense.
The same goes for the Republican party in Utah. They need to do a better job keeping those extreme fringes of the party in check. Every once in awhile, the Eagle Forum can get a candidate in at the convention and it hurts the GOP in the general election. Plus they get their wackos into the state legislature, which makes the Republicans look bad.

Much like professional sports, politics is about winning. In other words, even
if McCoy succeeds in beating Matheson for the Democratic nomination, there is no
way someone as liberal as he is would win the general election. It is easy to
forget that Utah's 2nd Congressional District is not merely composed of
Salt Lake City. Remember, Rocky Andersen was once the Democratic nominee for
this seat.

Jim Matheson is a weather master. He figures out the way the wind is blowing and
goes with it... Much like the likes of many congressman... Where is the
leadership on healthcare Jim... It was a problem before you were elected to
congress...

I'm not happy with Matheson over his not voting for the health care reform.
He also had his own health care reform agenda, one item must be becasue his
wife is a pediatrician. Why just kid doctors? Make that rule for all
Dr's. I wish he'd follow the Democrats. These Blue dogs are Repub
wanna be's. Had I known he'd be voting the way he does I would have
voted for someone else.

I'm surprised this counts as the news instead of gossip. The article
doesn't mention WHO is considering running against Matheson, just that
Democrats are unhappy with him. The headline should read Democrats Unhappy with
Matheson. The current headline is completely misleading, especially since NO ONE
has filed or even expressed interest in taking on Matheson (see Senator
McCoy's comments). Also, the article seems to be suggesting that McCoy is
interested in taking on Matheson which isn't the case.

Time for a conservative to hold that seat, someone who is passionate about his
country, someone who can win in spite of the letter next to his name. Someone
with values and integrity.
It would be great to find a new kind of politician someone like a Jason Chaffetz.
I don't care for Jim or for the healthcare bill. He did right by his vote. But his time and Bennett's has come it is time to return to our founding values.

if McCoy or another Democrat loses the general election, I just want Matheson
gone. I was a supporter and donated to his first two campaigns, but now I would
rather have a Republican with integrity than sell-out Matheson.

So Senator McCoy wants Matheson's seat. That's understandable. It
has to be attractive to him. He should go for it with everything he's got.
Matheson deserves to be poked by his own party once in awhile to keep him awake

I'd love to see a real Democrat challenge Matheson for his seat. Scott
McCoy says he isn't interested, and besides, he's probably too liberal
to win. A moderate Democrat (but not a DINO like Matheson) could probably win,
though, and it would give Utah Democrats a real voice in Congress. Right now,
with Do-Nothing Matheson, we're completely shut out of the game.

I don't really know what it is that Rep. Matheson is most concerned about.
Earlier on, I read he was against the U.S House health care reform bill because
of the public option and now it sounds like its because of the excessive cost of
medical care that the Health Care Bill doesn't adequately address. It
would be helpful if the Deseret News would clarify these points so that the
voter can decide whether or not to support Rep. Matheson.

You really do portray your obtuseness. Matheson is fighting to stay alive
because if he doesn't a republican is the only thing that will fill his
seat and get enough of that happening around the country and the pendulam swings
back. Keep ripping on him, it does a lot of good for us :)))) (oh I am
independent having voted for Matheson, I just want a balance in power that two
sides need to work together like in the past when we had prosperity)
