I do have to question the statement made in the article that she sold more albums than anyone other than Michael Jackson. I think the article could be a bit US-centric though. The US market is not the world market. Japan, for example, has a very active domestic music scene but doesn't certify album sales like Nielsen Soundscan or RIAA does in the US. When, in 1997, an attempt was made to determine the top selling artist of the year worldwide, the result was Namie Amuro. Her albums were popular throughout Asia and outsold any US based musician or band by nearly a third. Since then no attempts that I'm aware of have been made to determine the top seller but my experience in the business tells me that domestic artists in India, China and even Japan have certainly outsold Taylor Swift.
I don't mean to detract from her success, I really like her music, but the article should clearly state that the sales figures are for North America and possibly Europe.
