Let the utes start crying about something........
JJ Deluigi | 10:27 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
I for one was impressed to see the coaching staff make better use of JJ. Once he gets behind the LB's and into the secondary, he is elusive and has some decent speed. He looks to be faster than any RB BYU is currently putting on the field. JJ had some good catches and excellent YAC. I wonder if Anae will use JJ more. Perhaps he could even be used on some option type plays. JJ has enough speed that he can make the first guy miss, and after that he can elude a tackler or two for some decent yards. JJ had a great game at WYO.

"The seniors really took leadership of this team..."

*********

Only for the DN, and only at BYU is senior leadership a news story.

I enjoyed the article and think Anonymouse is a UTE!

Story about senior leadership on a team being led by a senior QB and the accompanying pictures is of a UW defender tackling the sophopmore transfer QB Nelson.

And, to echo the 10:54, serious lack of news when at the end of the season after getting a whippin' from the leader of the conference, when facing one of the non Big-3 teams, you have to write a story about the seniors finally getting riled up and "leading" the team.
SJ Bobkins | 12:04 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Do we need anymore evidence that the MWC will continue to be the big three and the non-competitive 6? Wow let's really "par-tay" watching Saturdays BYU and New Mexico game, think it might be as dreary as the debacle in Laramie or the bi-annual bloodbath in Vegas? Its great to come up with a glossy record, but when you break it down the only games that count are when BYU, TCU, and Utah play each other along with the non-conference, non-Div 1-AA, games. Boise State is like a junk yard dog straining on its chain trying to escape the almost as dreary WAC, for the MWC, why not extend a hand and get the conference more respect while adding one more meaningful game to the schedule? In my dreams I can see Houston, TCU, BYU, Utah, Boise St, Fresno St, forming a new conference taking up 6 spots in the top 25, daring the pinheads at the BCS to try and keep them out. We'll miss those 15,000 crowds at Wyo, CSU, and UNLV along with 55-0 blow-outs, but hey, you can't have it all.

The idea of super conference is fun. Maybe we could finally snag Notre Dame! But, I think it's one of those things that will never happen. There are too many other sports to consider, and BYU (as well as Utah) have some great non-football sports. BYU soccer is doing great, volleyball is solid for both teams, cross country is good for BYU always, gymnastics are another. So, the super conference only makes sense for football. And I think our school presidents, athletic directors and MWC people are more invested in seeing the MWC succeed rather than seeing a 6 team super conference. Well, a 6 team decent conference. Definitely BCS level. Interesting thought, though. Probably a lot fewer undefeated teams out of those 6 and no more 10 win seasons for BYU until they figure out the consistency equation. I think some MWC teams will rise up, though. SDSU is a couple years away from an 8-win team, I think, and I think Wyoming may have a chance over the next couple of years if their new coach helps lead their team. I think we need a great top 3 and a competitive tier 2.

Like they said... HALL took leadership and played a great game even though wyoming isn't a huge game but hey, you can't please everyone
Emotionally fired up... | 7:20 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I found this to be interesting:

"Our coaches do a great job of preparing us the same no matter who we play,"

Well, I can think of a few games this season that coaches themselves said they weren't prepared FSU/TCU, and the team did NOT look like they had any emotion or preparation.

Someone is fibbin!
re: Emotionally fired up... | 8:02 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
blah blah blah. Get off their back, they played well.
BYU  | 8:26 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
is not as focused as Utah, they didn't go for an on-side kick late in the game.
Give them credit | 8:28 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I don't care who you play, winning by 50+ while shutting out your opponent is an accomplishment, particularly on the road.

I've already got knots in my stomach for the Utah-BYU game. It should be a good one, like usual.
Anonymous | 8:42 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I guess the Utah game will be their final test, now down 1-2 on the big stage.
reality | 8:45 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
guess what? somebody has to lose in a 6 team super conference, so you'd still look the same from the outside. you people need to look at other conferences - they all have poor teams in them. True, some conferences are stronger than others. MWC looked very good comparatively last year. Not so good this year, but not bad either.
Duh! | 8:46 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
There is a reason the MWC hasn't extended an invitation to Boise yet...and it has nothing to do with being afraid of the smurf-turf lovin' WAC/1-AA powerhouse killers. It's called money. The MWC is just biding its time, waiting for the results to come in on the 4-year BCS evaluation period. By the way, we are in year 2 of that evaluation period now. For right now, it makes no sense to bring in BSU, as all they do for the MWC NOW is dilute the money pool from the current TV contract.

You watch, after the 2011 season, you'll see the MWC extend the invitation to BSU. At that point, the MWC will truly be a legit BCS conference, having AT LEAST 4 BCS busters...Utah twice, Boise once, TCU once.
Cougarf@n | 8:56 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Bobkins, you are absolutely right. These boring games between the Big3 and the rest of the league are such a waste of time. There's never anything exciting like an OT game (Utah vs. AF), or come from behind victories in the fourth quarter (Utah vs. Wyoming/CSU). I'm glad people ignorant to Utah's mediocrity this year will get a reality check this week. After a loss to TCU, everyone will see that BYU and Utah are probably top 25 teams, but not top 15 teams. I'll be happy with a rivalry game between #18 BYU and #21 Utah.

As for the super-conference idea. I think it would be great to pick up Houston and Boise State and show Wyoming the door, but we need some of the other mid-level teams so BYU, Utah, TCU, BSU and Houston could still get to bowl eligibility in down years. I wouldn't want to have to play four tough in conference games (in addition to a couple BCS team OOC) without being in an AQ conference. The current system works great and shouldn't be changed unless an auto-bid comes with it.
Ade | 9:24 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Where have the seniors been all year? They should be firing up the team every week. So what else is new in zoobie land?????
So Cal Y Fan | 9:39 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Great. Jorgensen FINALLY gets a sack and is back in the articles providing his Senior "leadership." He says, "It's interesting the way that we practice just as hard for a team like New Mexico, or like we did for Tulane, as we did for our Oklahoma game or our TCU game. We practice just as hard and we work just as hard. So I don't think it will be any different this week." One would hope a little more intense practice for a team like TCU .... or Florida State .... or Utah might occur. How can a team practice the "same" for the upper echelon teams as they do Wyoming, SDSU, etc.? Go get 'em Cougs!
COUGAR FOR LIFE | 10:02 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Take a close look at how the team made the best of what they had and bounced back after each setback. I think that is what teaches these young men how to be winners on and off the field. They showed how to win and how to lose in the most dignified way that sportmanship should be displayed. I admire Mendenhall for the way he carried himself during those very disappointing loses in the same season and yet he kept his composure and past the test of how to lose a game in the purest manner of sportsmanship. I strongly believe that these are priceless lessons that very few young men get to learn and experieince no where else in the country. Go Cougars!!!
RE: BYU | 10:51 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
"BYU is not as focused as utah, they didn't go for a on-side kick late in the game" so Ute fan. We were winning 52-0 "late" in the game. Now if we did, we would be accused of running up the score, which,I think BYU would be running up the score if they did. Utah maybe needed that kick to secure their win. Running up the score is unsportsmanlike and dosen't have anything to do with "being focused"

JJ diluigi played a great game and was fun to see. he and koria are gonna be ALMOST as good as unga. Maybe better...

sounds like a little brother whining because the DN chose to write an article about big brother

another Utah fan totally obsessed with BYU

In interview, coach says "I think what you see here is the real identity of this team". What observers want to know is what identity can we expect to show up? Who is responsible to see that the '" Real Cougar Team" is present on Sat.I believe this team has everything it needs to win each week. The problem is that they personaly did not come to play for two of those games. Some of them can stay home,( figuratively speaking) for wyoming and they may still win, however, they needed all present and acountable for TCU,Utah, andAirforce. They will look back after this season and say to themselves," we really blew it!. This could have been one of those Special Years, but we blew it.Period, end of story.Fb. Winning football is apprx. 80% Emotion and roughly 20% Talent, including coaching. You have to want the win more than the other guy does. It's a battle out there, and always will be.How else can you explain all the so called 'up-sets' that happen all the time?
RE: BYU | 10:51 a.m. Nov. 9, 200 | 11:53 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
The on-side kick comment was not about this years WYO-UTAH game (which was very close and may have needed one) it was a jab at the Utes kicking an onside kick when up 43-0 back in their 2007 game vs Wyoming.
Utahn | 11:58 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Since when did Houston become such a powerhouse? They have had a great year but where is the history? Keep the conference the way it is. I hated it when the MWC expanded to 12. I hated the new teams and couldn't care less about playing "the might Rice Owls". TCU is a good pick up. Leave it at that.
what in tucket? | 4:06 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I thought JJ had a fantastic high school career. He is a very clever runner indeed. He just needs to get into the secondary. I did think with the score 38-0 that Nelson could have come in and get a few passes away. When he came in at 45-0 it was too late to pass.
Leadership? | 4:14 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Are you serious? Leadership is planning and preparing before something happens, not merely reacting to a crisis.

Where was the leadership in those two blowout losses at home???

Obviously... | 4:47 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
its much easier to play well and have fun when there is no pressure to play now that their BCS and conference hopes are dashed.

Oklahoma lost again.
Re: @ 8:47 p.m. | 10:36 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Bronco's signature win is by ONE point over a compromised Oklahoma team.

re: Leadership? | 10:43 a.m. Nov. 12, 2009
You are exactly right.
Anonymous | 10:53 a.m. Nov. 12, 2009
Super Bowls have been won by one point.

Your comment is ridiculous. OU was not compromised in the first half. As well, we did not have our big gun offensive tackle or RB, Unga.

A win is a win,Friend! Can't wait for TCU to kick your UTAH Utes fannies.
