About as funny as eight years with GWB, Cheney, Rove and the boys. Hopefully we will recover....
and this rant..... | 5:08 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
this comes across as written by someone who lives their whole life based on the divisive, half-truths and outright lies spouted by sore-losers like Rush and Sean and Glenn.

Hope you're enjoying that Obama Presidency because I sure am!!

Barack in 2012!
too funny  | 6:04 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
way to attavk the person and not make counter arguments then blame it on lack of space. maybe you should rant less and make your points more if you want to be taken serious.

Sorry, Robert, You're Wrong | 6:10 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Don Gale was exactly right with his comments. What's a joke is the fact that people actually believe the claptrap Limbaugh and his country-hating ilk spew.
Doug G | 7:09 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Not only amusing, but the points he made in the column resonated as being very true.
tenx | 7:21 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
If you compare the 3 mentioned in the article from Fox to the 3 not mentioned on MSNBC, I'll take the Fox bunch any day.
half truths? | 7:24 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I suppose it's easy for liberals to recognize half-truths because that's precicely what the current regime has delivered. Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Barney Frank, Obama, Clinton, Geitner, are all doing a masterful job of spin control and delivering half truths, or simple bold face lies.

NOBAMA!
Indiana | 7:45 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
A lot more jobs were created by the GWB admin than this sorry bunch...

It is a pity that the conservatives are off working or finding productive ways to spend their lives instead of reading and commenting on the silly people here that comment on great letters...
Joe Moe | 7:50 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I swear at least 3/4 of the messages posted here directly involve a person's preference regarding which liar/manipulator they choose to listen to, right or left.

And I'm willing to bet that most critics of any particular personality, right or left, haven't even listened to what they have to say, they just listen to their own guy 99% of the time.

Frankly, I've listened to some of both (admittedly not much, so I'm no expert), and from what I've seen most are off base most of the time. They're really about entertainment and ratings, not accuracy or dialog.

I do like a good, solid neutral correspondent like Bob Schieffer. We need more Bobs in the world, less Maddows and O'Hannitys.

KM | 8:01 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
love your response. Love also the responses to your response. "people actually believe the claptrap by talk radio." I especially like the claptrap by the Obama administration in their own words! fool!
How about the new socialized health care brought to you by a bunch of marxists power-mongers and paid for by our grandchildren. Hopefully our citizens have seen enough of this govt. takeover of our lives, and are ready to oust pubs and dems that are over-reaching and over-spending.
ps. we wouldn't know the "half" of it were it not for talk radio and fox news.
Cora | 8:11 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Well lets see, fox, and right wing talk radio loved just about everything that the Bush administration did and said.
So, how did that all work out for America?
Hypocrisy | 8:11 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
The mud-slinging from the right continues.

Why don't you ever make suggestions?
Why doesn't this letter writer provide alternatives?
Why is the GOP's approval rating continue to decline/stay the same?

You're a dying breed. Until the GOP makes significant changes and distance themselves from extreme talk show hosts, they'll continue to be irrelevant in today's politics.
Grover | 8:13 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I think the words of Hugo Chavez are laughable but I don't feel the need to make the point by writing a letter to show how smart I am. Whoops, I guess I just did.
Anonymous | 8:38 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
The left is amusing, and frightening. They somehow believe that just because a person is alive they are entitled to be as comfortable and as care-free as possible, regardless of what they have or haven't done in their lives to take care of themselves. It's as if their lives in of of itself is a gift to the universe, and they should receive whatever they want, notwithstanding the fact they haven't done the corresponding things to EARN what they want.
Any argument | 8:38 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
that falls along partisan lines is the most foolish argument one could make.
Mc | 8:40 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
@Hypocrisy | 8:11 a.m. "You're a dying breed. Until the GOP makes significant changes and distance themselves from extreme talk show hosts, they'll continue to be irrelevant in today's politics."

Famous last words. Wait until 2010 to see how irrelevant the GOP is. I think you'll be eating those words.

Why do you think liberals are so upset by talk radio? If talk radio was irrelevant in today's politics liberals would ignore it. But Fox has great ratings with more watchers than any other network and it's growing. Liberal politicians would like to eliminate talk radio and Fox, and have tried to shame sponsors into dropping them, but all their efforts have backfired. It has simply drawn people to investigate the liberal claims and then stay on to learn things that other media outlets cover up or ignore.

Most conservatives are not crazy about the style of extreme right talk show hosts because of their conclusions and their rants, but the interesting information they dig up and report is important and you are not fully informed without it.

"The mud-slinging from the right continues.
Why don't you ever make suggestions?"

So where are YOUR suggestions?

Blaming Limbaugh for doing nothing more than what the left does daily, is merely a trashy attempt by the left ot silence any and all dissent. That is the true hypicrisy.
@MC | 9:48 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Why are liberals so "upset" by Conservative/Republican talk radio and media aka Limbaugh/Hannity/Beck etc.? And why don't we just ignore it?

#1 Blatant lies, which I have posted several times such as Van Jones was a criminal and spent time in jail, death panels, etc. etc.
Lies unchallenged become "truth" in the minds of listeners.

#2 "important" issues? Like what? Van Jones? he didn't report to the Pres., he didn't have control of any money etc. ACORN? ACORN exists in only 105 cities and 20 something states. They've only recieved $54 million in funding over 10 yrs. The states in which they operate do need to audit/investigate their activities where evidence of wrong-doing exists.

#3 Shows like Beck INCITE extreme paranoia. They speak to the dangerous extremists in the Conservative movement where there is a long history of acts of violence from Timothy McVeigh to the murder of Dr. Tiller to the shooting at a Unitarian Church in Nashville Tenn. Frank Shaeffer, who, along with his father was the founder of the Conservative movement's involvement in politics speaks to this danger in his open letter to Rupert Murdoch.
Looking back | 9:50 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Gale is deluded. The eight years of the Bush/Cheney has to start looking pretty good to even the most deluded. Let's see; Bush came into office with a recession, a IT bubble, an attack on the country and low and behold, he solved those problems with common sense and realistic response. As this recession and high unemployment grinds on and on with the perverse policies of Obama and Pelosi and Reid, even the dimmest will begin to see the light.
Anonymous | 9:54 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Reading this letter, what was his intellectual point? If he was correct, why do liberal like Gore? Anytime Gore comes up on talk radio they invoke class envy about his estate or private jet. They omit the hatred talk radio has created, so Gore must drive in armored SUV's, live behind walls and he can't fly on any air lines. We saw of Fox and "Tiller the killer" did. We saw rifle carrying conservative nuts at presidential venues.

Hate is like heroine. These hate junkies need their daily fix of hatred. I stopped trying to rationalize irrationality. This is one part racism, a big dose of ignorance, a dash of self righteousness two helpings of hate.

You saw this summer, you can't debate with these people.

Conservatives can't exist with personal accountability. They have to find someone or something to blame to explain why they are failures. If you make talk radio accountable for lying, you have make conservatism accountable. This is their greatest fear.
Well, to prove your point, | 10:34 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
you could name just a couple of problems with Don's claims. After all, you took the time to write a letter to the editor, why not provide a couple examples. Shouldn't be too hard....

Instead, you claim this: "I could go through the entire column and poke holes in every one of his erudite claims, but it would make the response too long."

Robert, that doesn't do a whole lot for your argument. Expend a little more effort next time please.
Breck England | 10:36 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
And Mr. Motzkus, where are your arguments? You decry Don Gale for making a personal attack when your letter is simply a personal attack on Don Gale, so apparently you're incapable of seeing the beam in your own eye.
To Anonymous | 9:54 a.m. | 10:36 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Are you kidding? Conservatives bring up the SUV's and the gigantic estate and private jet that Al Gore uses because it highlights his BLATANT HYPOCRISY! The man has made fortunes off of his "global warming" scare and getting people to reduce their carbon footprint, all the while he flies over them in his private jet. Uh what about YOUR carbon footprint Mr. Gore? Oh wait, he's a liberal elitist... he just tells others what to do, but he's exempt from the rules. Kind of like Congress and their health care bill that they want for everyone else, but not for themselves...

As for your comment about conservatives having no accountability, I would say it is quite the opposite. Liberals want nothing more than to live a life free of any and all consequences. Abortion? You want to run away from the choices you made to have unprotected sex when you did not want children. Huge Government programs and welfare? You don't want to have to actually WORK for anything yourself... what kind of world would that be? People actually providing for their own needs?? Preposterous!
@looking back | 10:45 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Here's what happened in Bush the Lesser's experiment.

The government pumped out lots of money by increased spending, much of it going to the military-industrial complex, the pharmaceutical and insurance industry, and, of course, a special big chunk on the wars.

It also cut taxes. Mostly for the very rich. So rich people suddenly had lots of money on hand. They didn't go out and open new businesses, they simply sold the money. That is, they put it in "the financial sector," banks, investment companies, brokerages, insurance companies, real estate funds, hedge funds and the like.
Anonymous | 10:51 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Wasn't it a conservative rant about the liberal press. With a fairness doctrine, conservatives financially would have a tool to counter the evils of liberalism in the media. When, Michael Moore is interviewed you could counter his arguments.

Conservatives seem to fear that they would lose more than gain by fairness. That's an interesting statement? What are talk radio and Fox News hiding?
@To anonymous 10:36 | 11:02 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
"Liberals" are opposed to abortion as a means of birth control. The difference between Conservatives and liberals on this issue are how to decrease the number of unwanted pregnancies. Conservatives believe outlawing abortion is the only way to decrease abortion despite evidence showing outlawing abortion doesn't stop abortion. Liberals believe education, easy, affordable access to birth control and healthcare for women is the key. (the highest rates of teen pregnancy are southern states--red states).

Gore drives hybrid vehicles.
Jess | 11:20 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Anyone who actually watches or listens to the bafoons on either extreme are missing out on real debate and thoughful discussion of important issues. The so-called news broadcasters in America are awful! Rarely is any subject presented without commentary (I'll do my own thinking, thank you!) or a regard for alternate views.

I prefer to balance the BBC with reliable print media such as the Economist, Der Spiegel and the Financial Times. That and a bit of economics and political science education goes a long way.

I even, gasp!, read the Deseret News to get a sense of the right wing take on things.

Well there Robert Motzkus of Salt Lake City, you Glenn Beck types of Conservatives can't exist with personal accountability on yourself, and really let the cat out of the bag. So is the pot calling the kettle black?. I think so.

Thinkin' Man | 11:53 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
If you can't back up your claims with facts, you shouldn't make them. That goes for any publicly expressed opinion.

Just because you disagree with a politician or commentator's opinions does not mean their opinion is wrong or that what they are saying is false. That has to be demonstrated with facts.

Common tactics to get around dealing with facts include labeling/categorizing and name-calling. Whenever you see those, red flags should appear that YOU need to check facts.
RAB | 1:03 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
The commentator is exactly right. I was shocked by the audacity and hypocrisy of Gale’s comments — blindly accusing talk show hosts of everything he was doing in his own little ranting. It is all too predictable that Liberals cannot see what is wrong with Gale’s comments. They revel in the same blindness.

I, too, wanted to respond to Gale’s comments, point out the lies, and expose the hypocrisy, but we’re only allowed 200 words in these postings. That would have only allowed me about 3 words per each of Gale’s unsupportable accusations. It wasn’t worth the effort. Better to just let it go and hope for excellent statements like that of this commentator.
!@thinkin' man  | 1:10 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Thank you thinkin man that has to be the best reasoned and thoughtful post I have ever seen from you. I think if both sides of this debate could apply that logic we may actually be able to begin to have a meaningful conversation in this country. The only think I would that we all need to try to remember that at the end of the day we are all human and we need to work to treat each other with dignity and respect, especially during those times we most disagree.

Lies? lies? What are you talking about?
Does it not matter to you that the President of the United States surrounds himself with total radical marxists? Van Jones is an unabashed Communist! That doesn't bother you?
If ACORN, an arm of the DNC vote-getting machine get even one tax dollar its too much! That doesn't bother you?
Beck is beautiful to any red blooded American. The time to be up in arms is now! Not after this administration bankrupts our nation and puts us into slavery because of our debts. and an out of control tyrannical govt.!
But why am I wasting my breath with a koolaid drinking socialist sypathizer? It seems to always fall on deaf ears.
@lost DC  | 2:37 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
way to add nothing but more pointless banter Lost, How exactly did the writer not do the exact same thing they accuse other of?
To: 1:57 | 3:01 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Are you talking about George Bush? Marvin Olasky who JOINED the Communist Party was a campaign advisor to Bush and was alongside Bush when he announced the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. Newt Gingrich also gave every freshman Republican a copy of Olasky's book when he became Speaker of the House.

Beck focused on a statement Jones made many years ago. There is no proof he is currently a "communist" and, in fact, his recent work/book demonstrates he is an avowed capitalist. But then, presenting or examining that evidence would not support Beck's thesis so he neglects to "mention" it.

It does bother me when fraud is committed with taxpayer money. Why do we not get upset about the BILLIONS in fraud committed by the Defense Contractors? There isn't enough reporting about that, ever.

Beck panders to the lowest common denominator--- Fear, lies, misinformation ensures him a devoted following.
BTW I was an Independent voter for over 30 yrs, becoming a Democrat only recently after seeing the right-winged fringe take over the Republican Party.

So what if the commentator gave Gale and you liberals some of your own medicine. Gale chose the weapons. Don't complain that intelligent people are using the same weapons he used. It is hilarious that liberals can see nothing wrong with Gale's comments and yet your all here whining about someone who called him on it using the same tactics.

I can't believe the libs on this blog will not face the truth about Obama and his many, many radical friends. Obama is a radical and he shows it every time he opens his mouth.
As if he didn't associate with Bill Ayers, Reverend Wright, Acorn, SEIU and look at his czars and cabinet. If you only listened to the MSM (same old media) you wouldn't know squat about this president and his intentions for America.
Nice try @3:55 | 5:37 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Van Jones DID call himself a communist. Sorry that Beck assumed ole Van was telling the truth about himself.

When listening to Beck knew he was exaggerating costs of the Winter Olympics cost and that he accidentaly said the wrong location. Liberals gleefully overexposed the error.

The march on Washington was estimated at 1.7 million

"Cash for clunkers" Huh?

"etc. etc. to name a few" Right, now that youve scraped the bottom of the barrel to find those miniscule errors amidst thousands of comments. Give it up already.

You probably have more errors in your posts than Beck gets in an entire month.

@Nice Try | 7:04 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
SEVENTEEN years ago, Vam Jones called himself a communist. There is no proof that he IS CURRENTLY a communist, but in fact he has embraced capitalism.

The D.C. Police estimated the tea partiers in Washington numbered in the TENS OF THOUSANDS. Even the organizer of the march said it was only 600,000 countrywide.

Beck is a liar. Only the dumb, deaf and blind can't see that.
Glenn Beck is a liar | 7:15 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
"The march on Washington was estimated at 1.7 million."

Every legitimate source did not estimate the crowd at 1.7 million. That's like placing the population of America's largest cities into D.C. and expecting things to operate like normal.

Legitimate sources such as D.C.'s Fire Department estimated the crowd to be 70,000. To place this lie in perspective. Houston, Texas which is the fourth largest city in America has a population that's just over 2 million yet Beck would have us believe that NUMBER 27 with a population of approximately 591,833 was able to handle the entire population of some of America's largest cities without any problem and without anyone noticing.

Inaugural Day required advance planning and effort on the part of different organizations and yet it's estimated to have only included 1.8 million people. Hotels were booked for weeks, traffic was impossible and bathroom facilities were provided including the placement of porta-potties so people wouldn't have to pee their pants or poop on themselves yet none of this happened on 9/13/2009 which means that Glenn Beck is a liar.
RE: @Nice Try | 7:52 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
"The D.C. Police estimated the tea partiers in Washington numbered in the TENS OF THOUSANDS. Even the organizer of the march said it was only 600,000 countrywide."

This is an important fact because it shows that Beck has no regard for the truth. What I think everyone fails to understand is that this number of visitors to D.C. would be an equivalent of 4.1 million people descending on Salt Lake City yet the 2002 Olympics required years of planning and coordination and it sold only 1.5 million tickets and hosted an average of 70,000 visitors each day of the Games.

We need to look at this logically and ask ourselves who to believe. the D.C. Fire and Police Departments who estimated the total to be about 70,000 or Glenn Beck who is a proven liar who claims 1.7 million people descended on D.C. without advance planning which is the equivalent of one of our major cities descending on another.

Even funnier is the fact that D.C. is a fairly small city compared to Salt Lake. Let's see 1.7 million descend on Utah's Capitol.

This Van Jones | 9:05 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Van Jones was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world for 2009. His book, “The Green Collar Economy,” was a national best-seller. A Yale Law School graduate, Jones didn’t go after the lucrative jobs that were available to him, but moved to San Francisco, where he founded Bay Area PoliceWatch, a hot line for victims of alleged police brutality. He then founded the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, based in Oakland, Calif., “a strategy and action center working for justice, opportunity and peace in urban America.” The center thrived, growing to a staff of more than 20 and building a solid record of fighting police violence and youth incarceration, along with spearheading green-job initiatives. The fusion of racial justice and economic and environmental sustainability is at the core of Jones’ work.

Why? | 9:28 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
So why lie about the number of tea partiers? Why does Beck just play fast and loose with the facts? It really isn't that hard to get the facts. I'm sure he has some staff to help him make a few phone calls and a computer as well.

Hannity does the same thing. One day I was listening to Hannity on the radio. It was during the time of the Mark Foley scandal and Hannity was talking about Monica Lewinsky, saying she was 19 when involved with Clinton. A caller told Hannity, "um, actually Monicas was 22." Hannity: "well, i have a paper right here which says she was 21." Caller hangs up. Hannity goes back to saying she was 19. (btw, caller was right).
So why lie?
