I think they say what they think is true. There are liberal talk show hosts as well. I don't think these people are all liars. We see the world differently and tolerance is necessary. Just because its not your perspective does not make the host a liar. Show some quotes in context and demonstrate the lie. Prove that the host is lying. That they know they are telling a lie. I have to believe that our federal leaders are doing what they believe is best even when I disagree.
ARJ | 7:01 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I would like examples of their 'lies'. It is obvious that you do not listen to them or you would know that Glenn and Rush ar not on KSL. I laugh at people like you that demean people you have probably never listened to. Attack people personally that you do not listen to, real classy.

After reading former Rep. Mickey Edwards' book Reclaiming Conservatism, I noticed him when he was being interviewed on TV. The interviewer asked Oklahoma Republican why, when writing a book about contemporary conservatism, he made no mention at all of Rush Limbaugh.

His answer: "Rush Limbaugh has never had a political thought in his life."

Probably for the same reason ksl allows press conferences of the president and the speaker of the house spilling a bunch of lies.

The vast majority of the politicions in DC fit your description.
Ernest T. Bass | 8:13 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Because the LDS Church shares many of the traits you listed.

Once again we see the personal animous oozing forth from ErnestT, like the unraveling of the single strand DNA that makes up his genetic marker.
Talk radio in all of it's formats is "interesting" to listen to when one has no other form of entertainment. That's precisely what it is, entertainment. Some commentators can make fairly good sense of things, this is where the sheeple who blindly follow their own party's mantra and demands of their political Imams differ from those who can manage to freely think for themselves.
The Imams from Massa Progressive's Plantation cannot fathom anyone who dares stray away from the rigid dogma of self-import, while the Imams from the Republicrats here in Utah, cannot fathom or coneptualize any ideas other than their own. Very little difference between the two here in Utah at all. Talk radio from all sources helps the sheeple decide for themselves, the true fear-mongers are terrified of an educated electorate.
It's time to throw all of the self-anointed political "saviors" out of office and get back to the Constitution and Declaration of Independence.
The state legislators here in Utah are completely inept and corrupt.

this letter and the three others, the same subject and the dozens before them reminds me of an old Seinfeld episode where they use the term yada yada yada to short hand a pointless conversation.

Talk radio is all about money. Be outrageous and lie, harden your core supporters, and sell more advertising. Result: more money. All at the expense of the country and civility.
AntiChrist(s) | 8:55 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Does any of this sound familiar?:

1) Speaking using flattering words
2) Tell you how good and how smart you are, and mock others
3) very Very Popular
4) Get paid EXTREMELY well for what you say
5) Twist the truth to suppose their positions

Do the names:
Sherem
Nehor
Korihor
...come to mind???

@Anonymous | 8:50 a.m.

If what you say is true then liberal talk radio would not have fizzled out and the mainstream media would have a greater share of the viewing audience. They are masters at outrageous bias, lying, and ignoring the other side. They have always had an advantage in selling advertizing and they have plenty of money. You'd like to think that talk radio is only successfull because they have hoodwinked alot of people into believing a bunch of lies, but that simply isn't the case. They have attracted millions more listeners and viewers on FOX because they give information that the mainstream ignores or covers up in an effort to push a liberal agenda. If they were more fair and unbiased there would never have been a need for alternative media. You can't stop it now, so you might as well quit trying to squelch those you don't agree with.

...whiners and complainers without specific examples of wild accusations. Look, I'm no particular fan of any of these guys, but before you spout off about their "lies", please give some specific examples before you hit them upside the head. You owe them and us at least that much. Please, the facts to back up the rhetoric.
Mike Richards | 9:39 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Mr. Iker wrote: "The broadcasters sell hate with half-truths, exaggeration and outright lies.".

The burden of proof in on Mr. Iker. What half-truths? What exaggeration? What outright lies?

Just because he don't like what is being said, doesn't make those statements "half-truths", "exaggerations" and "outright lies".

Where is his outrage for the "misrepresentations" being made by Mr. Obama for health-care? Why is he not incensed that Mr. Obama lied when he claimed that he wouldn't raise taxes on anyone except the top 5%. Does Mr. Iker believe that calling a tax a "fee" somehow changes the fact that the government is in our wallets?

Because the main-stream media has totally abdicated its responsibility to dig deep and question every "fact" uttered by this administration, people like Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh are virtually the only media willing to speak up. Mr. Obama's response to them is to smear FOX News.

Take off the blinders. Take out the ear-plugs. Read the documents left by the Founding Fathers and compare Mr. Obama's outrageous ideas with those upon which America was founded.
Brother Chuck Schroeder | 9:53 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
You know, your 100% right Gil, it's true, Limbaugh, Beck and Hannity are all swindlers, that's laughing all the way to the bank, with, not only YOUR MONEY, but the sponsor's monies as well. No matter how Utah hates the truth, about this, in their snowmobile state of snow-birds, bored to death, stuck indoors for the next several munths, under gray skys, with their AM Radios, and popcorn along with soda pop and energy drinks, plus video games. What a life, hey Gil?. And I'm a Republican to.
Bro Chuck's Rant's n Rave's | 9:58 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Glenn Beck reminds me of the Wicked Warlock Witch of the West has waved his magic wand of hype over his mormon toadyish serviles and has deemed we all shall drink his poisonous potion of rating's, because he's the Lord and Master now on FOX.
Diane | 9:59 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
The LDS church allows it because people like Beck and Hannity are saying things that the LDS church can't say over the pulpit. They are hoping that people will somehow heed to the warnings that these commentators talk about everyday.

Pres.Hinckley said "there is a portent of stormy weather ahead"

Pres.Monson has said he "cannot promise a bright future for our youth"

The LDS church would receive an enormous backlash if they came out and said what Beck and Hannity talk about.
Limbaugh, Beck, et al. | 10:14 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
are demagogues, quite obviously.

They pander to those in society least informed and least able to think critically. They prey on the prejudices and fears of society.

We have always had demagogues with us, but in the present media culture of today, they have a special power. It is the responsibility of all to be informed, so that we may critically filter any information we receive. We must always be vigilant, especially with our government, but also with anybody telling us our problems are not of our own making.

When you hear them blaming another group (liberals, Jews) for all of society's problems, that should be a tip-off that they're selling you something.
(In O'Reilly's case, it's the Posturpedic Bed!)
Felix Urioste | 10:15 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
They speak the truth. No doubt about it.
If the nation was wise enough to listen to them, we would have no problems. None at all.
RedShirt | 10:50 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
To "Anonymous | 8:50 a.m. " I hate to tell you this, but the three greatest motivating things in this world are Money, Power, and Sex. You whine about conservative radio being all about the money, yet ignore the immense power grab through lies that the Democrats and Republicans have been pushing over the past 17 years in one form or another.

To those of you complaining about the "lies" that Beck, Limbaugh, and Hannity use. Think about this, they are paid to give their opinion on politics, their opinion should not have to be based on what one group has called the truth. Their shows are expected to be biased. However the news desks as NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, Fox, the AP, Reuters, NY Times should be unbiased, yet all of those, except Fox, have become puppets of the White House. The White House has even claimed control over them. So, if Beck, Limbaugh, and Hannity should not be listed to because of their conservative bias, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, the AP, Reuters, NY Times, and other liberally biased news outlets should banned simply because they are expected to be neutral and are biased.
RedShirt | 10:50 a.m. | 11:27 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Nobody said anything about banning anyone.
That would be censorship.

The letter just called them swindler's.

And a Swindler has every right to broadcast whatever garbage people buy into.

Thinkin' Man | 11:49 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Please back up your claims of lies and inaccuracies.

Examples, please.

Just because you disagree doesn't mean it's not accurate(and that works BOTH WAYS).

Did Conservative TOP AM Radio Talk Show Host's Stop This?.

Meek's Vote For Trillion Dollar Government-Run Health Care Plan

WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Kendrick Meek (D-FL) late last night voted with Speaker Nancy Pelosi to pass a 2,032-page, $1.3 trillion government takeover of health care instead of joining 39 moderate Democrats who voted with Republicans in opposing this massive legislation. Meek has voted with Pelosi more than 98 percent of the time this Congress.

According to The Hill, "A host of groups and coalitions representing small businesses on Thursday ramped up their campaigns to encourage lawmakers to vote against House Democrats' healthcare bill" because the provisions in the Democrats' bill "are sure to constrain businesses' growth and prevent them from hiring new workers."

ASK YOURSELF NOW - just HOW POWERFUL are these Radio Talk Show Host's?.

Then why even listen to them in the first place?.

That's my view.

Talk is cheap.

Action, speaks louder then word's alone.
To "Gil Iker" | 12:21 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Gil Iker

What about Rachael Maddow, Keith Olbermann, Bill Mahr, Al Franken, Air America, moveon, MSNBC, etc? No problems there? No making money selling half-truths, exagerations and outright lies there?

I just couldn't help but notice how one-sided your opinion was.

And FYI... Neither Limbaugh nor Glenn Beck are broadcast on KSL.

And neither KSL radio nor TV are LDS flagship stations for the church. KSL TV broadcasts the EXACT SAME programming any other NBC affiliate broadcasts.

As for KSL radio... It's a formula radio station, not a Utah creation. There are stations in most states I've visited using the same name (ie KXL AM-760 in Oregon, say it fast and it sounds a lot like KSL doesn't it? What a coincidence!)

These chanels ALSO have the exact same sounds-blips, music, etc, leading into or out of breaks, same traffic and weather on the 9's, same news format, similar personalities and national programming, etc. Are you saying KXL in Portland is somehow the flagship station of the church too?

People need to get over this LDS conspiracy myth that they control the broadcast content at KSL, etc.

@Limbaugh, Beck, et al. | 10:14 a.m. "They pander to those in society least informed and least able to think critically. They prey on the prejudices and fears of society."

My experience and studies I've seen show that the least informed and least able to think critically tend to vote for democrats simply because of the D by their name. Republican voters tend to be more educated and better off financially (I doubt they got that way by not being able to think critically.)

As far as preying on the prejudices and fears of society, nobody's better at that than Democrats. They've got the masses scared to death over global warming, swine flu, the economy and health care, so we must look to the government to take care of us!

Everyone's afraid to say what they think because it might not be politically correct and someone might be offended. But it's just fine to offend a conservative. They don't count to liberals.

If you want to make statements like the above without being laughed at, you'll have to give a little more substantiation than your opinion.
@To "Gil Iker" | 12:21 p.m. | 2:03 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
If you think Rachel Maddow is anything like Glenn Beck, you have obviously never seen her show and know nothing about her. Maddow has a PhD in political science from Oxford University and was a Rhodes scholar. Glenn Beck, on the other hand, took one theology class in college (at age 32) and then dropped out. Maddow is a brilliant political commentator, who will call out hypocrisy on either side of the political spectrum, even taking President Obama to task over a number of issues (including detainee rights and extraodinary rendition). She has also exposed corporate sponsorship behind many so-called grass-roots organizations. Beck is a self-described rodeo clown who nodded approvingly when a guest (Craig T. Nelson) exclaimed, "I've been on welfare, I've been on food stamps. Did anyone help me out? No." (Forgetting, of course, that food stamps and welfare are government programs that DID help him out.) Glenn Beck does not care about the truth, he cares about his ratings, nothing more.
Why they love Limbaugh | 2:43 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Under Bush, we can all look forward to military aggression, deregulation of dangerous, greedy industries, and the defunding of vital domestic social-service programs upon which millions depend. Mercifully, we can now say goodbye to the awful nightmare that was Clinton's America.
"For years, I tirelessly preached the message that Clinton must be stopped," conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh said. "And yet, in 1996, the American public failed to heed my urgent warnings, re-electing Clinton despite the fact that the nation was prosperous and at peace under his regime. But now, thank God, that's all done with. Once again, we will enjoy mounting debt, jingoism, nuclear paranoia, mass deficit, and a massive military build-up."

really when did KSL start showing saturday night live? take it from someone that lived in utah not to long ago and know lives outside Utah you have not and do not receive the same broadcast as other states and when exactly did the LDS church sale KSL radio and television I must have missed that?

I wouldn't consider them liars. I think they stretch the facts to fit their agenda.

@To "Gil Iker" | 12:21 p.m. | 2:03 p.m.

You have mis-judged me. I watch her show for at least a few minutes almost every day.

The hardest part to get through is the handoff between Olbermann and Maddow. They just pat each other on the back and smerk at each other and chortle condescendingly about the latest stupid thing the red-neck Republicans are doing or saying.

It's just Glenn Beck in a butch woman package. She looks so artificial in her facial expressions and so forced in her delivery, that it makes me very uncomfortable for her.

I find her smug smerky opening snarks at anything relating to Republicans or even Conservatives in general totally nausiating, but sometimes I hang in there to see if getting past the opening sequence between Olbermann and Maddow gets any better, and usually it does. But sometimes the whole show is just more and more and more... of the same old poking and jabbing at what the stupid_Republicans did.

To me it usually feels like biased spin on anything and everything that happened that day (or endlessly re-hashing the past 8 years). Basically Glenn Beck left.

Thank you once again for your fine example of lineral tolerance (sarcasm)
re: Mc | 5:05 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Wrong again.
Especially in this last election cycle, republican voters had the lowest education, by far.
Redneck nation votes republican. Redneck nation isn't educated and is likely to believe in the myth of Bekkk, Hannity, etc.
Meteor | 6:27 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Beck et al are right and they are reflecting the strength of the opposition to PC government and dicatorial Obamanation moves from the current Congress.

The liberal dinosaurs, I suspect, are about to become extinct. It is the meteor of public opinion, spearheaded to some extent by Talk Radio and its more daring hosts, that looks like bringing this about.

The more you oppose conservative Talk Radio and the Fox News Channel the more strength you muster - on our side! Ever heard of equal and opposite reactions? This reaction, by exasperated conservatives never represented honestly for a century or more, has been building for generations and the full impact will likely be felt by this administration.
to:Mc | 12:22 p.m. | 6:39 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
And My experience and studies I've seen show that the least informed and least able to think critically tend to vote for Repblicans.

Republican voters tend to be more likely to believe college drops with radio shows over highly educated people with real university PhDs and careers.

Are more likely to depend and parrot their information gained from said radio show hosts rather than spending the time in the libraries doing the own research for answers.

The BEST thing I learned it college was to question everything, look at the facts, and think for myself.
(which IS critical thinking.)

I think, therefore - I'm liberal.
Thinkin' Man | 8:45 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
The arrogance of liberal writers here should be obvious to everyone. It says a lot about what's going on in Washington today.
to: MC | 9:50 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I believe the above poster was not saying that Republicans, per se, were the lesser informed. It seems to me that those upon whom a demagogue preys are the lesser informed.
Because Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh, et al, are demagogues, those who believe their spiel are the fearful in society.....afraid of society losing its values, afraid that too much change too quickly will destabilize the whole system, afraid of THEM, etc.
TO Highly Educated Liberals | 9:40 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
TO the many posters who insist that Liberals are better educated, more financialy successful, etc...

I've tried to point this out several times, but you just dismiss it unless it fits the agenda you are on today. I consider myself to be Conservative. And it bugs me that Democrats (who are generally more Liberal) continuously insist during election cycles that they are the "Poor" and the "Needy", etc, and the REPUBLICANS are the "Rich guys", the CEOs, the business-men, etc.

But they only tend to play THIS stereotype-game when they need your vote and it fits their purpose.

Democrats are the "common folks", the "poor" and the "needy" when looking for votes. BUT when they are boasting about their big-brains to their friends or on opinion website like this... They are the "Higher educated people of the population", "The higher paid people", the "Upper-Crust", etc.

You can't have it both ways.

Either REPUBLICANS are the rich snobs you make them out to be at election time... or YOU are the rich, highly educates snobs you come off as in these comments.
