Thirty-nine Democrats had the courage to represent the will of the people and vote against the bill. (42% of the people favor Federal heath-care, while 54% oppose it.) Mr. Matheson was one of those Representatives who (finally) stood up to Mrs. Pelosi and reminded her that he represents the people of the 2nd district in Utah, not the people of her district in San Francisco. However, Mr. Matheson favors a "tweaked" version of the bill, showing that he is unwilling to abide the limits placed on Congress by the Constitution.

Two-hundred nineteen Democrats and one Republican representatives ignored their oath of office, "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States.", and voted that the Federal Government would provide for the personal welfare of its whining citizens. The House knows that it is not authorized to provide for the personal needs of this nation's citizens, yet 220 Representatives chose politics over integrity and voted to ignore the Constitution.

Now it's time for every American to call those 220 Representatives to task. Americans hired those irresponsible Representatives, and Americans can fire them.
heard of a "majority" Cheryl? | 5:13 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
My candidate won, YOURS LOST! The American people voted for a President who vowed to reform health care, get it? Didn't think so. Keep on ranting. It sounds more like you're so upset by that awesome role-model Nancy Pelosi, but jealousy can be overcome by improving yourself.
@Mike Richards | 6:59 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
First Mr. Matheson DID NOT represent his constituents. Here in the liberal den of sin that is SLC WE WANT A PRIVATE OPTION!!!! Matheson is is serious danger of losing his job. I won't vote for him ever again.

@6:59,

You'll have to talk to Mr. Matheson about that. I don't live in his district.

Whenever a Representative thinks he can vote his conscience when his constituients tell him otherwise, he has stopped being a Representative and has started being a pawn. No one can please everyone all the time, but a Representative represents the people. His duty is to the people, not to his party leaders.

Any Congressman who does not respect the Constitution and who does not stay within his authorized duties should never have a 2nd chance to "Represent" the fat-cats that paid for his seat.

It doesn't matter whether there is a "D" after his name, or an "R", or even an "I", each Representative and each Senator is in Washingtion to see that the Constitution is honored and then to see that the people and the State are represented. Failure to honor the Constitution is total failure as a Congressman.

Couldn't think of a better way to describe Pelosi. Great letter.

Health reform is needed. The House had just enough courage to pass a bill, finally! Now may the Senate finally meet the needs of the people instead of the needs of special interests. May the U.S. join the modern world on this issue.

I can't believe there are supposedly educated people out there who think "no action" is the best action. But then again, we are talking about a Utah education.
@Mike Richards | 9:38 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
So how do you know that Mr. Matheson is representing his district? Because you obviously don't. I will again repeat. The people in his district want reform. Mr. Matheson you are a failure. Vote with what your constituents want, not what your church leaders tell you to do.

GOP = the party of "No".

Do you feel that the Republicans in Congress are doing enough about Healthcare reform?:

Yes 31%
No 67%

You can't just blame the Democrats.

No matter how many time you and your friends spout the big lie about Health Care not a part of the general welfare of this nation, it just aint so.

This nation was created around the premise that the important things in this world is people.

Not business, not money, not even religion.

The purpose of that government was to secure the best life for it’s citizens.

Health is THE most important thing in everyone’s life. Even if some people refuse to admit that, that is, until they are about to loose it.

You and I are together on the multi-page Health Reform bill.

Me because I don’t think that when the people who write the legislation make the bill, there won’t be any “reform” for those people or the general welfare.

And you because of your false notion about the Constitution.

I ask you to come up to today’s world and realize that we live in a much different world than those folks 200 years ago. Please stop trying to force people who live now to fit into a mold created a long time ago.
peperlake | 12:19 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
this letter is idiotic.

So, if a "knight in shining armor" were to appear to save america from the "wicked witch of the west and her minions", what would he do?

The answer is nothing. nothing would be done about the problem of health care.

second point: the only character in the wizard of oz with shiny armor is the tin man and he had no heart. Maybe he would be the guy to save conservatives, or would he be first in line for government healthcare cause he has a heart problem and lost his job?

"Keep in mind our Constitution predates the Industrial Revolution. Our founders did not know about electricity, the train, telephones, radio, television, automobiles, airplanes, rockets, nuclear weapons, satellites, or space exploration. There's a lot they didn't know about. It would be interesting to see what kind of document they'd draft today. Just keeping it frozen in time won't hack it."
Mike Richards | 2:17 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
The "progressives" and "liberals" who think that the Constitution has no value are lucky to live in a country that allows them to shred their heritage and trample the document that allows them to speak, to live, to work, to vote, to enjoy life AS THEY WISH.

In America, if you want to start a business, you spend a few minutes with your banker or lawyer or trusted friend and file the few necessary papers, then you are free to pursue your destiny. Try that in France or Belgium of any other progressive European country. You'll spend years playing politics before you're judged competent to do whatever it is you want to do.

Those "liberals" who can't read a complete sentence (Article 1, Section 8) deserve to have everything stripped from them by a "benevolent" government who believes that they're living to high on the hog and that those who voted for and supported the current party deserves to receive everything that they've spent their life earning.

Mrs. Pelosi and her merry band of Democrats would like to strip you of every penny so that they can redistribute it to their "worthy" friends.

And I am personally thankful for those "progressives" and "liberals" who
wrote that the Constitution.

Which allows you to speak, to live, to work, to vote, to enjoy life AS you WISH.
RedShirt | 4:06 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
TO "to:Mike Richards | 2:17 p.m. | 3:20 p.m. " remember that the "liberals" who wrote the constitution would now be considered "classical conservatives" or conservatives.

The modern liberal movement, paleoliberals, social liberals, progressives, neoliberals, or whatever you want to call them are more like Lennin, Marx, and others of the socialist family than they are of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and other founding fathers.
RedShirt | 4:36 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
To "to:Mike Richards | 2:17 p.m. | 3:20 p.m." if modern liberals wanted people "to speak, to live, to work, to vote, to enjoy life" as they wish, why have the been recently doing the following:

Pushing Government provided healthcare
Pushing Fairness Doctrine
Allowing SEIU union members to attack Tea Party people.
Bailing out industries
Allow unborn babies to be killed
Increase regulations on banking and health insurance industries.

Seems like liberals only want you to "to speak, to live, to work, to vote, to enjoy life" as long as it is in the way they have deemed appropriate
to:RedShirt | 4:36 p.m. | 5:38 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
You don't even KNOW what a liberal believes.
I argue with you everyday about liberalism.

Once you have a clear definition of english, let's talk.

Until then, you are just another member of the lunitic fridge.
Ultra Bob  | 7:07 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
To RedShirt | 4:36 p.m.

Health is the number one concern for the general welfare of people, it is governments job to provide help for a failed system that is so important to our society.

As the main protector of our freedoms, it is the governments obligation to push for fairness in our society.

The Tea Party people are mostly business oriented people who want to be free of government rules and regulations. To this end they are anti-government to the extent of being regarded as enemies of America. They deserve to be attacked.

Our governments on all levels are guilty of “bailing our industries” and private companies. This has been going on since the beginning of this nation.

Liberals don’t kill any more people than conservatives.

The proper conduct for banking, health insurance and all other business ventures should be required to operate in fair, decent, honest ways that promote the general welfare of our citizens. It is the obligation of our government to enforce the rules of our economy.

America is all about people.

You say: “Seems like liberals only want you to "to speak, to live, to work, to vote, to enjoy life" as long as it is in the way they have deemed appropriate”.

You’ve got it exactly backwards, it is the conservatives who have the most rules for conduct and the most infringement of personal freedom. All the way from drinking coffee to the definition of words like marriage.

I’m not saying all the rules are bad, only that there are more conservative rules for life than liberal rules. And it seems like all people want other people to be like themselves, it’s a human failing.

You said:

You are absolutely, right on, correct in your statement. George Washington, Ben Franklin, and all the other founding fathers were wealthy business men of their time.

They were probably just as conservative as modern conservatives in all but one area, the formation of a new government. And in that they were Liberals.

It is not likely that modern liberals are like the founding fathers, modern liberals are mostly just ordinary working people.

And since Socialism is only a bad, evil thing for conservatives, it is likely that some of the things other socialist liked, would also be liked by Liberals.
to:RedShirt | 4:06 p.m. | 8:36 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Ben Franklin ultimate liberal. Signing the abolitionist petition to Congress. Believed in freedom, diversity, the Enlightenment, and progress.

Jefferson: brilliant, master architect, Lockean liberal. Nobody stoked the leftist rhetoric of revolution, democracy, equality and progress better.

James Madison, spouting off human liberties, drafting that ultimate liberal document the Bill of Rights.

George Washington, war hero. Offered the dictatorship and refused, saying America should remain a republic. Took enormous pains to make sure his slaves were freed upon his death. What a bleeding heart!

John Adams. Haitian slaves staged the world's second anti-imperial revolution, Adams stood by them. He even made national headlines by having a man of color to dinner!

Abe Lincoln, that liberal ACLU-type lawyer, fighting a war to free black people, telling big business southerners what they can and can’t do!

Then U.S. Grant, who established Yellowstone Park, and Teddy Roosevelt who fought for so many more like it. Greenies!! Bleeding hearts!!! TreeHugging Environmental wackos!!!!

Put it all together and you have a group of pointy-headed liberal geniuses whose Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights, Emancipation Proclamation, national parks and much more remain the liberal bulwark of world freedom.
