What!?! We spank a very tough New Mexico team at home and drop in the BCS? Don't they realize how good we are? We have dominated every team we have played except for SJSU, Ore., AFA, WYO, and UNLV. But they are really good, too. How dare they let us slip to 16.

Don't worry little red ladies. It's only going to get worse next week when TCU puts you out of your misery.
Zac is WHACK!!! | 3:49 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Wow, look, it's another jealous BYU fan! You guys are pathetic! When you can actually win a big game, and injuring last years Heisman trophy winner to beat a now crappy Oklahoma team doesn't really count. Living in the past as usual. Get over yourselves, at least well give TCU a game in Texas. Unlike you Zoobies and Maxie Hall dropping balls because TCU was way too fast for your offense! GO UTES!!!
Re: Zac | 3:23 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009 | 4:16 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
That is exactly what you zoobs were saying last year. Somehow, you think that just because you were taken out to the woodshed, the same thing is going to happen to the Utes. Guess what, Utah has a defense and the Utes won last year. Keep running your cougar breath because we like being entertained. Make sure you post next week after the game so we can make fun of you some more.

Honk! Honk! Honk!

Get a clue
If TCU goes all teams get $375 | 4:45 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Maybe Utah should "play dead" and get $375,000 instead of a paltry $125,000 like last year.

New rules for BCS payouts-

But if TCU gets in this season, the Horned Frogs will receive only 50% of the $6 million, with the other half getting split evenly among the other eight teams.

That’s $375,000 per school … or a $150,000 increase over the old payout.

For athletic departments throughout the Mountain West that are scrambling to meet fiscal challenges due to state budget cuts or increased scholarship costs, that’s a critical change.

Utah's defense isn't as good as last year and it's offense is certainly not as trustworthy. Add the fact that TCU is much better offensively and it could be a long afternoon, however Utah has a knack for getting ready for big games so who knows? Utah will have to play much better than it has played so far this year in order to win.
You | 4:52 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
wanna bet! TCU by at least 21 and more likely 42.
Silly Ute Fans | 5:12 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
16 is still way too high for the Utes, a team who has only beaten one team with a winning record (Air Force). Hmmm, I seem to remember a similar thing happening to the Cougars last year, and I also seem to remember the Utes talking a lot of trash about that.

That aside, give me a break! The comments up above are childish and puerile. I have much respect for the Utes, but the fans that post on these articles are a terrible representation of their University. Unfortunately there are some BYU fans that post similarly.

Word of advice: keep it to yourselves. I guarantee that nobody wants to hear the junk spewing from your mouths through your keyboards. Also, it's easy to see your cowardice, coming to a board where all your comments are anonymous.

Good job staying on the winning side of things Utes. Only one loss to a two loss Oregon is impressive. The Cougars also have done very well, having only 2 losses to this point. My prediction for the end of the year is 9-3 for the Utes and 10-2 for the Cougs going into the bowl games.
utes won't be ranked next week | 5:27 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Byu dropped out of polls by loss to TCU, and so will Utah.
RE: Silly Coug FAN!! | 5:34 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
I'm NOT impressed with this Coogar's comment up above. Trying the calm approach, ay? Your just as big a coward to get on here, generalize the comments above and still try to make a stab at the Utes. And your prediction? Wow, really? You're overlooking an Air Force team that can run the ball? I wouldn't if I was YBU! When you can actually stop the run against a good team, you might have a chance! The Utes defense is still good, and will keep the Utes in the game next weekend in Fort Worth. How could you let TCU walk in to LES and DOMINATE you from start to finish the way they did. November 28th, well see who's 10-2 and 9-3 as predicted above. It won't be UTAH either! GO UTES!
Bob in line | 5:48 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
The real scam of this is that we have 3 undefeated non-BCS teams in the top 8. That should mean that at least two go BCS busting, either Boise St or Cincinnati. What are the chances that the BCS will dig really deep and take 20-something ACC team over a 12-0 Boise St.

I'm BYU all the way and really hope TCU can bust the BCS. If they beat Utah they deserve it. Boise St is a solid team but they have only played one top-25 team and that was at home. I haven't follow Cinn at all.

As for BYU, the winner of the Holy War goes to Vegas. The other gets some ridiculous bowl game in North Dakota. It would be fun to pit the number three of the MWC against either Boise St or Cinn, which ever doesn't get in.
Re: Bob | 6:10 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Um, you mean 2 undefeated non-BCS teams. Cinci is from the Big LEAST.

As for the game, it pains me to say it being a devoted U fan...but I think TCU wins a close one.
re: Bob | 6:22 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
There are only two non-AQ teams in the Top 10:

TCU and Boise State

Cincinnati suddenly became "special", along with Louisville, when they joined the Big East after BC, Miami and Va Tech left
Anonymous | 6:23 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Tcu 31 Utah 10 and Utah only gets 10 cause the defense puts them in scoring position. Tcu will dominate overwhelmingly and Utah fans will say it's a rebuilding year.
Schedule Magic Failing | 7:43 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
The reason that Boise and Utah are dropping is the schedule makers ploy is being exposed. Neither team has played a top BCS caliber team. Oregon was their only hope and now the Ducks have shot down so Boise and Utah have to withstand a computer nightmare. I suspect Boise will continue to win and drop. All they had schedule wise was Oregon and Tulsa. The Tulsa win is now meaningless. Utah only had Oregon. Utah has a chance because they now must play real teams in 2 of their last 3 games. No more easy schedule. If they can beat TCU, they move up, if not they drop down. Most likely Utah and BYU will play for 2nd in the MWC with the winner staying in the top 25 and the loser falling out.

There has been a lot of bantering and hard feelings shot back and forth that could have been avoided if both sets of fans would have looked at the schedule and realized where TCU was sitting on both of their schedules. Frankly, BYU would not have beaten Oregon and Utah would not have taken FSU or OKLA. TCU is will have both teams.
Anonymous | 8:12 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
How about Utah's opponents seeming to have more players in Utah's backfield than Utah usually has?
The offensive line seems a bit lax in doing their job.

Aaron W. | 8:16 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
TCU 42 Utah 10
TCU game | 8:31 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
TCU is a great team, but they are not unbreakable. They seem to struggle against good teams. You can see from the scores from the Air Force game and the Clemson game. I think that just like those games were close, the Utah game will be close. Another positive for Utah is that this next game will be game number 10 since TCU had a bye week. The team may start to show signs of wear and tear from the long season. It's also a positive that the media is hyping up TCU for the BCS and making the Utah game look like it will be an easy win for the Frogs. I hope that people keep telling TCU that this game will be nice and easy for them. I hope they underestimate the Utes.
Ute tuneup game was not good | 9:51 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
The Ute played their worst opponent in some time (years. That is not a good way to tune up to play a team like TCU. I hope they can get their game face revved up for this weak and improved their individual and collective techniques. This was only their 2nd week with a new and very young quarterback. We can be hopeful but not optimistic.

38-7 at HOME! Why are even byU fans saying anything?
@5:34 | 10:04 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
LOL

You completely justify my statement: you are being childish and puerile.

And you only prove it with your style of drivel.

Plus, you ignore the fact that I do respect the Utes.

Have a nice day acting like an immature pre-teen and poorly representing the UofU.
Re: RE: Silly Coug FAN!!  | 11:02 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Dude, what is your problem? I may not be a Ute fan, but the guy didn't "still try to make a stab at the Utes" as you seem to think.

Sure, you support your Utes, and that's great. 9-3 is pretty realistic, either for the Y or the U. He is a coug fan, of course he is going to put the Utes as the 9-3 team (one of the two teams is going to be by the end of the regular season).

Pretty sure the cougars were a worse team last year, and they handled Air Force just fine at Air Force. And I seem to remember you Ute fans claiming that Wyoming was going to roll BYU since Utah barely beat them. Does 52-0 mean anything to you? The Utes performance against a team says nothing about how the Cougs will do against them (also see CSU). Same vice-versa (TCU).

Good luck with TCU, you're going to need it.

By the way, feel free to trash talk me if you like. I'm done reading these comments. Peace out.
Lets be honest | 11:20 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
I am a U fan and I don't give them much of a shot on the road where TCU dominates everyone. U offense is nothing like last year, but their D should keep it closer than BYU did. At home, they might at least have a shot, but at TCU will not be all that close if I am trying to be objective. On the bright side, it will be cool seeing TCU play in a BCS game for the pride of the MWC and hopefully inch us closer to an automatic bid in 3 more years.

Heck, lets hope for a Texas loss and then TCU might even play for the National Championship!
Credible Predictions? | 11:31 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Cougar fans aren't any good at predicting game results.

Pay them no mind. Just trying to stroke their own egos.
swe | 11:37 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
With all due respect to BSU, their marshmallow schedule precludes them from any serious consideration for a BCS bowl, much less the championship.

Their game with Oregon was as long ago as the BYU/OU match up.

The only non elite team with a real probability of getting to a BCS bowl is TCU.
Utah D? | 11:46 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
That Utah D had a hard time containing Wyoming, how will Utah's D keep it closer than the BYU-TCU game?
Kevin in the Terrace | 7:32 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Any talk of TCU, BSU, Cincy, or any other undefeated team not deserving of a shot at a national championship is hogwash, regardless of schedule. Every team in the NCAA deserves a shot at the national championship if they have a great season, especially undefeated teams. Arguing this schedule and that schedule only plays into the biased system that is the BCS.
Maybe | 7:50 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Maybe the Utes would have had a chance to beat TCU, but Wynn was nat starting since game one. Spent too long develping the wrong qb. Oh well maybe the Utes will dominate in a couple seasons when they have a senior quarterback.
Hard time containing Wyo? | 8:02 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Utah held Wyoming to 100 yards and 6 points less than their average. How does that qualify as "having a hard time containing Wyoming?"

Please check you facts before you waste our time.
WSU Dude | 8:02 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I have learned my lesson about betting agaisnt Utah in big games. I like Utah's chances.
yooties | 8:10 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Better wait until after the TCU game to display your arrogance.
Vegas | 8:34 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
TCU is a 16 point favorite against Utah. That's being kind to Utah.
re: Utah D | 8:39 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Actually, Utah gave up 23 LESS yards to Wyoming than BYU did.

But I wouldn't expect Cougar fans to actually look at stats before spouting off. Too much work.
Where's Moose? | 8:42 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
He doesn't feel like commenting on how TCU has pulled away from Boise in the standings? And will all but clinch a BCS bid with a win Saturday over Utah? And that no matter what Boise does, their BCS fate lies with....UTAH!

People claiming Utah has less of a chance than BYU are just really jealous BYU fans, hoping that TCU will embarrass Utah like they did BYU. Unfortuantely for them, Utah plays defense, and will keep the game close.
re: Zac | 8:49 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
The Utes were hurt by Oregon's loss. That affected their strength of schedule.
Anonymous | 9:18 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Hey, Zoobies. No one is on here saying we are going to dominate TCU, especially considering this game is on the road. However, I guarantee we will play them a lot tougher than BYU did. This will be a much closer game than the one played in Provo.

Also, BYU dropped out of the polls following TCU because of the way TCU beat them. If Utah plays them close, they will not drop completely out of the polls.
Boise State Broncos | 9:20 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Boise State proved once again they are the best team in the nation by destroying a top team in the nation, Louisiana Tech, who has a losing record but Louisiana Tech creamed Division 1AA Nichols State out of the feared southland conference.

This proves that Boise is better than Georgia Tech, LSU, USC, Iowa, and Utah; teams that actually play tough competition.

Talk about OVERRATED!
Typical | 9:38 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
As usual, an article that is not about the Y/U rivalry turns into an irrational bashing contest. Realistically, good years for the big 3 of the MWC. No way Utah wins this week the way TCU is playing. I hope Florida and Texas lose and we see TCU in the title game. That would be the best thing for the conference. TCU looks amazing right now.
Anonymous | 9:54 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Utah dropped because two reasons. Oregon lost, and byu killed Wyoming
Innocent "byu"stander | 10:01 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Reality check to all you BYU fans. TCU has earned it! They put it all together when it counts. As much as I hate to admit it BYU has not been able to step up when it matters. I would rather have TCU represent the conference than any other team even though I am a BYU fan.
Sorry, that is the reality fo the matter.
The Voice of Reason | 10:08 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Let's all calm down and realize the truth:
Utah is in a rebuilding year.
Utah has consistently shown up for big games.
Utah has a solid defense.
Wynn is more of a pass threat than Cain.

What does it all mean?
Utah will keep it close against TCU.
TCU will win out and do real damage against the BCS.
Utah will go to an inferior bowl and win it.
Utah will lose a close one to TCU.
Utah will win a close on in Provo.
Re: Kevin in the Terrace | 10:15 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
My thoughts exactly. I am not sure how long ago Boise scheduled these games, but Boise is undefeated. The BCS system is biased. Boise St. deserves a BCS bid, but they won't get one. The BCS is biased.

Another reason for the very flawed BCS system is that if TCU goes undefeated and Texas, Florida, or Alabama lose one game, TCU will still not get a chance in the title game. The BCS would not allow that.

Go TCU! Go Boise St. Cause lots of critisism of the BCS.

I had hoped that this would be BYU's year to have a shot at repeating as national champion. It wasn't. So I am now rooting for the Horned Frogs to go all the way.
Understand Who You Are | 10:54 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Why can't BYU fans be content with a top 25 ranking, getting into a bowl game, and contending for the MWC championship? Considering all of BYU's disadvantages with recruiting and talent development, staying in the top 25 is a huge accomplishment.
Dave | 11:11 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Wow there are a lot of jealous little zoobies out there this morning. It's too bad your own team doesn't give you anthing to get excited about.

Rest assured at least this game will be exciting to watch unlike your game vs. TCU. The Utes know how to show up for the big games!!

GO UTES!!
Anonymous | 11:28 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
I am rooting for Utah on Thurs. Though, I think TCU will win. It just won't be a mudhole stomping like say in Provo on 10/24/09 or Ft Worth on 10/16/08.

Like most Utah fans, I really did not expect Utah do quite so well this yr. What no unrealisitic expectations from those who wear Red on Saturday?

The ONLY bad thing about the U winning will be Boise will probably get the BCS bid.

Honarable Utes | 11:36 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
You have to give the Utes respect. They have stepped up big in big games over the past several years. This year I think they will do the honarable thing and take one for the conference.
Utah 21
TCU 35
Reality | 11:40 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
The Utes will keep it close because they have a solid defense, but TCU will win. Utah is not a top 16 program. When you struggle to win against weak teams, you will eventually stumble. Just ask Iowa.
RE: Utah D? | 12:15 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Uh, did you go to that game? Utah's defense played brilliantly, with the exception of a blown qaurterback throwback play. Can't fault them there. The D is looking better and better and I take comfort in knowing that even if Utah doesn't win on Saturday, they'll at least give TCU a game, unlike the pathetic coogies. On a different note, I think it's interesting that Utah fans by and large are in support of TCU going to a BCS game, if it can't be us of course. This is because TCU deserves to be RESPECTED, and has earned it with quality play and a passionate, respectful and knowledgeable fanbase. Too bad this can't be said about BYU. I find it interesting that week in and out Utah and TCU go to work and finish their business, moving up the rankings and gaining national respect, whereas BYU wins one big game at the first of the year (questionable now) and all of a sudden they're going to be playing for the national championship. BYU lets their mouths do the talking while Utah and TCU let their play do the talking.
