I love it Dick! Nice article. This game reminded me of the way FSU played us
earlier in the year just with the roles reversed. Let's hope the Cougars
can keep it up for 4 more games.

Execution won the game? How about playing a patsy vs. playing a TCU?
It's no wonder the players, coaches and fans build up unrealistic
expectations of this program. They get killed by good competition, come back to
throttle a hapless foe, then thump their chests like they were world beaters.

That was a total domination game, Cougars, in all phases of the football game.
Hopefully you can do the same for the remaining three conference games and the
bowl game, if there is an invitation.
Cougars, you have New Mexico, Air Force, and Utah on the schedule. New Mexico could give you a challenge, in order to look good for their fans. The Air Force Academy and Utah could be the hard games because they are known for their different offenses and their tough defenses.
It would be "bad", meaning great or fantastic, to have three more total domination games to finish out the conference season. Especially when you are referring to the last game of the year with the Utah Uties.
As I have said all season, BYU needs to focus on gone game at a time. Give it your all for that game with near flawless execution. Then focus on your next opponent. The last game will be a total domination of Utah, the Uties.
Remember one game at a time and total execution in all phases of the game. BYU should come out and show the conference, and the BCS, what the COUGARS can do!!!!!

Finally we get to see the "execution at a high level" that Bronco has
been talking about for years! And what do you know, DH actually gets to
finally gush over it! Anybody can have a good day. The key is to put together
a string of good days.

Congratulations on the great win. You played amazing football. Go Cougars!!! Not
to take anything away from the performance and "execution" against
Wyoming, but it was Wyoming. "Executing at a higher level" is a lot
easier against less talented teams. A team cannot be expected (nor should it) to
execute flawlessly and at the highest level for every game of the season, that
is where talent and athleticism can help make up the difference and reduce the
margin for error when a team is not executing flawlessly or at the highest
level. If BYU and a talented, athletic team execute at the same level, the
talented athletic team will win everytime. If BYU out executes a more talented,
athletic team, BYU has a shot to win the game. All I am saying is let's
reduce the margin for error (i.e., flawless execution) by getting some more
talent and athleticism. The recruiting this last year is a "huge" step
in the right direction. Go Cougars!!!

Looks like Bronco needs time to prepare for games (more than a week). He's
usually great at getting top play from his team in the first game of a season.
Again, execution was top-notch against Wyoming, because they had the time to
prepare properly for consistent execution.
When Bronco learns how to coach players into executing in every game, then BYU will have a great team. It hasn't happened again this year. Perfect seasons are still in the future.
Bronco keeps saying it's execution that causes BYU losses and poor play. He's right. Now, HE has to learn to execute consistently in his coaching.

Great coaches don't win more because they have better players than anyone
else. They win more because they know how to get more out of the players that
they have.
Some coaches (like Sloan) will say that they can't win games, that their players do (he said it on TV interviews). They'll say that they're not the ones on the floor, that they can only coach the players, that it's up to the players to win the games. That's a cop-out.
ANY coach who has a team with above average overall talent should win enough games to be in the very top echelon of their sport. Losses for such teams are ALWAYS on the coach's head. Even when key players are having off days. Adjust!
Bronco has grown each year, but seems to have to learn hard lessons each year. Oddly, the hard lessons have the same result--embarrassing losses. A pattern here?
Bronco says the lack of consistent execution has been the problem with BYU's losses in the past few years. Well, Bronco's own coaching execution seems to need fixing, too.

Well, Utah sure is good at doing the next-to-impossible. They executed very
poorly against Wyoming @ home and are lucky to have escaped with a win.

Great game! That was a huge improvement over last season's response to the
TCU beatdown. One hurdle cleared nicely - how we would respond to the TCU defeat
part II. But a significant and longstanding hurdle still remains. And that is
BYU's continued lack of ability to play well against top notch talent.
There is no denying that BYU played a phenominal game against OU. But that
unfortunately appears to have been a blip in a long, long negative trend against
top-25 caliber competition. We know BYU can beat who they are supposed to beat
and they can do it in devastating style (Wyoming and UCLA last season). That
remaining hurdle though is beating top-25 caliber teams. New Mexico should be
another cake walk that tells us little. But Air Force will be tough and Utah
should be a ranked team when we meet. That is where we learn if BYU remains the
BYU we all love and yet remain frustrated with or if they can finally start to
beat top teams.

Just to get a better feel for what BYU did yesterday at Wyoming, here are some
other Wyo scores so far this season:
At home vs. Texas, 10-41 loss (It was 13-10 Texas at halftime)
At Colorado, 0-24 loss
At Air Force, 0-10 loss
At Utah, 10-22 loss (Wyo led 10-9 halfway into the 4th qtr)
The Cougars definitely played great yesterday and the fact that Wyoming is not a top 25 team doesn't take away from that.

BYU has consistently been ranked in the top 3 year in/year out of recruiting ever since the inception of the MWC.
By default, this should suggest that BYU should consistently finish in the top 3 in the league.
Well, surprise, surprise. BYU does seem to finish in the top 3 in the conference just as their recruiting rankings suggest they should.
In fact, using the same logic BYU should annually dispose of the remainder of the conference due to the talent gap between BYU and the rest of the conference. (which, by the way, they usually do)
So, congratulations, year in/year out you outrecruit the most of the conference and year in/year out you beat the rest of the conference due to your talent/recruiting.
Do you have the same kind of recruits that USC or Florida gets? NO! But, memo to Cougar fan, almost none of the 120+ DI institutions do either.
So, be happy with pounding your overmatched MWC every year and quit whining about losing to teams with better athletes.

BYU does well with extra time to prepare and mediocre, average teams.....folds
when not given these circumstances......too many times they have proven this
senario......yet I keep hoping and watching.....

I just ran my analysis, and the news is not good for Cougar fans. Sure, they
will whip Wyoming this week, but the question is by how far? The answer depends
on what team takes the field.
Of all the MWC teams, BYU is the most inconsistent on both sides of the ball!
Depending on which defense shows up, BYU is likely to allow anywhere from 5 to 39 points! That's a 34pt range. And depending on which Offense (meaning which Max Hall) shows up, they are likely to score anywhere from 20 to 54 points (34pt range).
By contrast, TCU's Defense is likely to allow from 5 to 17 points (only a 12pt range), and TCU's offense tends to score from 23 to 51 points (28pt range).
Utah is the most consistent on both sides of the ball. Their Defense is likely to allow from 11 to 21 points (10pt range), and their Offense tends to score from 22 to 37 points (15pt range).

If I have to hear about execution one more time...BYU played an ill-prepared
Wyoming team. Don't think that you're back to being a BCS contender
after one great game against a mediocre mountain west team. Finish the season
strong, playing all 4 quarters against Utah, then BYU will be back. Not back to
being a BCS contender, but at least back to being part of the top teams in the
Mountain West.

Before the wyoming game i read a coment it went like this: "BYU is going to
put their hands in their hand warmers and wish they were is sunny provo"
Well I guess wyoming players wished by the end of the half that they were in
sunny florida! Wyoming is isn ok team. They almost beat Utah. Because utah
didn't totally execute
