might not be such an expert this week. Some tough games to call this week.

Hunter vs. Davis: How much does Hunter left in the tank? They do seem like the team of destiny. Word is that their QB might have a broken leg. He did hobble around all game vs. Lone Peak but the QB at Hunter basically hands off the ball to an assortment of tough running backs behind a massive line. Davis likes to run the ball too and has a stud RB. Maybe Hunter can eek one more out as game reminds me of the Kearns-Davis matchup in 1989 for the state title for some reason. Hunter 24 Davis 21.

Alta vs. Bingham: Wow, what a match-up? Bingham won the first meeting by four points. Bingham is bigger, Alta might have more team speed. Has Bingham's softer schedule (Trinity TX aside) prepared them for the stiff test coming their way? Alta has had to go to war week in and week out in Region 4. This might help Alta 31 Bingham 27.

Springville vs Dixie: With or without Sharp I expect Springville to win this game. The two teams met in Week 1 and Springville prevailed 24-17. Being more familiar with Springville I've seen them improve week in and week out and their sophomore quarterback has seemingly come of age. I'm sure Dixie has improved as well. Both squads have good coaching. Springville 27 DIxie 21.

Timpview vs. Mountain Crest: Great coaching among other things in this match-up. Last year's game was close so the question is: Is Timpview as good as last year and/or has Mountain Crest improved from last year? Not to hurt Dixie's or Springville's feelings but they aren't up to the level of this team. Their only hope is that this game is a total bloodbath and then they can take advantage of that somehow some way. Just because Timpview has lost two games this year, this might take some of the edge off of their aura of dominance, though Mountain Crest has been the one program that has stands up to them when they play. So with all that. Mountain Crest 42 Timpview 35.
Broken Leg? | 11:29 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
If Hunter's QB does have a broken leg, that might have been one of the gutsiest performances I've ever seen. Sure he doesn't get to pass much, but he did convert that 4th down in the 4th quarter and didn't turn the ball over. He played an entire game and 4 overtimes on a broken leg? If that's true that boy is a stud.

Dixie was picked to lose in all of the last 3 games
MC vs TV | 8:38 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Basic: MC is better this year. TV is worse this year. MC SHOULD have beaten TV last year. Totally outplayed them. I can't see MC losing again. THey are too determined. MC wins big.

I don't think that anyone can reasonably predict what will happen in the Bingham v Alta game, there are too many variables and the teams are way too close in ability both on the field and on the sidelines. One thing that always holds true in these games, there will be someone who makes a huge play down the stretch to win the game, and it will be a close game with plenty of drama.

MIke Sharp has been cleared to play against Springville. Should be a good game. The team with the least mistakes will win this game.

Not by people who know Dixie High...having coached in region 9 for five years prior to this season I know all to well about Dixie. I picked them to win the last few weeks.

Intresting, did ever see the scores to Bingham's games besides Bingham vs. Trinity, and Bingham beat Alta earlier this year, so I don't how Bingham isn't prepared for Alta again

I would concur, read my comments above. He actually made a couple of key throws for the Wolverines. He does not make mistakes. He isn't asked to do a lot but when he does he seems to perform well.
The Expert: Re: Anon 1:18 | 2:36 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Bingham is a great team, they beat Alta fair and square and they did take on Trinity TX. What I am suggesting, and maybe it's bunk, that since then the games Bingham's schedule has been much softer than Alta's schedule. Their region is weaker than Region 4 and what Alta had to face week in and week out except for a game here or there. When you play Kearns, Copper Hills, Taylorsville and even West Jordan, the outcome for Bingham was basically known but Alta had to come and play hard vs. the likes of LP, PG, and Brighton (who actually beat them). It is just a theory but sometimes sports history shows that when you are challenged, and you have some pretty close calls during the season and stretched a bit, that this profits you when crunch time arrives. (for example when Duke beat UNLV in 1990, UNLV was better but Duke had the challenges in teh ACC that readied them for a close game). Don't get me wrong, Bingham is a great team, certainly wouldn't be shocked if they beat Alta, and if they do, the gold trophy is theirs.

Mike Sharp will play and Dixie will win. 27-17

Springville is a wonderfully talented team. They have very impressive coaches, especially defensive coach. Dixie will need to bring it's "A" game to stay in the game. This is a great match up.

I believe it is true, MC and TV are better teams, nor matter who wins either game, this will prove to be a great state playoff. A David and a Goliath. Gotta love it baby.
Too bad  | 12:14 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
the 'championship' games in 5A & 4A are played in the semis. Oh well, seems this happens more often than not.

I think Alta and MC both win as well. Bingham is not balanced offensively and Timpview has never recovered from Kaufusi getting hurt.
The Expert? | 6:58 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Doesn't say much for the self-anointed expert...he may be the only one picking Hunter over Davis.
re too bad | 2:34 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
So how is this for offensive balance? Bingham rushing Td's -19 for Langi, Passing Td's -19 for Hannay, so seems to be a pretty balanced offense to me. Alta doesn't mix it up much, shotgun formation only, they try a few QB draws and WR screens but nothing earth shattering. But even so, why wouldn't a team with a big, athletic RB not be run oriented? I think Bingham will be fine.
MC | 4:38 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
You THunder Chickens are gonna get rolled, won't even be close... You guys will get on the board once or twice maybe.. MC over impview 42-10.
RE:THE EXPERT | 9:02 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
He might be the only one picking hunter this week, but hey that's better than the last 4 weeks!! a little did you know . . . . hunter has been picked to lose each of its last 4 games, including being a 14 point under dog against lone peak, and many considered that to be a generous. SO hunter continues to play the underdogs, and will continue to surprise! they are big, fast and strong, which is a winning combination!! and if you dont believe me ask the lone peak kids if they were in pain on saturday morning after a physical game!! and if you want more evidence ask hamilton and peck who is the scarier apponent in the finals . . . .
For those predicting... | 9:14 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
I have to agree with one of the other posters, it isn't possible to predict what the outcome will be in either the Bingham vs Alta or the Mountain Crest vs Timpview game. Why? Because both of those games are going to showcase the two best teams in their given classification!

In these types of games the winner usually isn't necessarily the better team. More often than not the winning team has won on a few key situations which has ultimately won the game for them. Turnovers, special teams, and maintaining a never die calm focus throughout the games roller coaster of emotions may decide the outcome.

I hope that both of these game provide pure entertainment and all four teams play the very best football they can! In both games I hope that the winner only wins by less than a TD to keep it interesting. If there is a blow out in either game it may be a little disappointing for the fans, players, parents, and alumnists.
Re:RE:THE EXPERT | 9:19 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Hamilton and Peck? They would probably be political and answer that both teams are scary, but neither would really answer the question until this week is over. They would probably answer we're focusing on this week's opponant, one week at a time.

However, if I were Hamilton & Peck I would have to say that Davis is probably more scary! Hunter, is solid but they don't exactly have the threat of going deep on you. Bingham and Alta have better secondary players than Hunter does have WR's so both those teams could load the box on Hunter. While Davis, if you load the box they will play action and their WR's are good enough to find holes in the zone and seperate from man to man.

Hunter don't get big heads, just play the under dog card! It's been your winning formula.
