This happens way too often in Utah. Why is a 15 month old unattended while there is heavy machinery operating?

Our famly prayers got out to the family and all involved.

Its interesting to read comments like this by those who were not involved. This was a tragic accident and the family is not one to "leave" their children unattended. Don't assume in these situations that there is always neglect.

"Don't assume in these situations that there is always neglect."

Unless there are posts which are erased, I don't see any assumptions. I see one question and a post of support.

I know all the parties involved in this. I'd have to agree that there WAS an assumption made. The assumption that the child was not being watched. I suppose you didn't assume that all day the driver and parents near by were using the phrase "spot the tot," moving and watching children and keeping them out of the way. Have you ever watched a child that age? I have, and i have yet to meet a person who has looked over a child of that age and not somehow found them into mischief regardless of how closely they were watching. Generally this mischief results in a few pages torn from a book. This was a far sadder result but know that they were watching!

oh...and it was normal truck that happens to have the capability of dumping (just to clear your mind of the picture of some monster dump truck lumbering around playing children)

I cannot imagine the horror of this happening in my family. This is a senseless tragedy. Ironically it's worse somehow that the father and a friend were trying to enrich the child's life by putting in a trampoline for her. He obviously loves his children. It does no good to place blame on anyone that is already experiencing tremendous grief. Can you imagine the impact this has on the lives that have been changed? Not only the obvious loss to the family, but this man has to deal with the guilt of this accident for the rest of his life. The community should come together in support of these people at this time, with love and peace. That is what you would want for your own family in a time of great sorrow, not to be judged harshly. My heart is with you Hill Family. God bless.
