What does this kind of BEATDOWN do for BYU?

Keep the fan base pacified?

Where was the chest thumping when the COUGARS were BEATDOWN by FLORIDA STATE, AND TCU?

Anonymous | 10:03 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Well it's too bad they didn't beat TCU or Florida State 52-0 then maybe they would be considered a top team instead of just another decent football team. They are the 25th-27th best team in the country according to the polls. There's the truth straight and simple. Gotta love the byu faithful (and I like BYU), but 1984 hasn't happened again yet. I hope it does, but we have a lot of work to do to get to that point, where we have the discipline to play hard every week. The Utah game is going to be no easy game, especially if the Utes pressure Max Hall like they did last year. And yeah the guys bringing the pressure are pretty much all the same guys - Paul Kruger. No Sean Smith, but Robert Johnson gets a lot of picks. I thought the Y abandoned the run in that game, and then Max threw five picks. I just went off on a tangent, but I hope the cougs finish strong
re: Stats | 10:08 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
They only did it to irritate yoot fans.
@stats from AZ | 10:10 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
So who's your team son?
Are they undefeated?
Who have they played?
Let's compare teams rather than 1 mindless criticism.
re: anonymous | 10:10 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
its important because after getting shallacked by FSU their "national championship" hopes are gone this year so they need to mention 1984 a few more times. Why do they even still have a team they can just sit around and talk about the good old days.
RE: Stats | 10:30 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
What it does is add another victory to their record. All anyone can do is prepare for their next game win or lose. The Wyoming game is over and New Mexico is up next. BYU has everything to play for, they have their next game and that is all they need to be thinking about. Being a fan, I can look ahead and think about the posibiliy of BYU finishing 11-2 with one of the losses being against perhaps the best team in the nation. Pretty darn good I would say. Even if BYU dosn't win another game, I think they have shown they are a good football team. The Haters are out in force and will forever be consumed by their blind and ignorrant hate. I predict BYU wins the rest of their games and dominates Utah in the process. If they do Ute fans, that will be 3 out of the last 4. I'm your "Huckleberry"
Re: Anonymous | 10:37 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
You talk like the BYU game will be a cake walk for Utah.

I'll be ecstatic when the Utes are unpleasantly surprised at how much of a ball game they'll have on their hands with BYU, (can you say 2007?)
What??? | 11:20 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
What purpose did summing the totals of the last 4 games actually provide. We know nothing more than we did before.

Why did we stop at 4 years? Why not the last 5, 6, or 7 years? Or even better yet, why not sum up the total score for the entire series between BYU and Wyoming? Why does it matter?

At the end of the day, or the season, it's only the W-L record that matters. All the talk about how far you beat a team is ridiculous.
Matt Connelly | 12:59 a.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Utah will lose to both TCU and BYU this season. It's only a matter of time. Get ready for the Poinsettia Bowl Utes! :)

to complain about, isn't there. A win is a win, and this was a good win. Yes, it was a win against a mediocre mountain west conference team, but it was still another notch on the belt. Because BYU beat them by more than TCU and Utah did doesn't mean anything - a different week is a different team. But, a win is a win, and I'll take it.

Utah Fans | 6:28 a.m. Nov. 8, 2009
will always be arrogant, ignorant and obnoxious. Great win over New Mexico yesterday Utah. Great Win over Wyoming BYU. Seems to me Utah struggled with Wyoming at Home???? Interesting. If BYU continues to blitz and swarm on defense like I saw at Wyoming, Utah's new prima donna had better be prepared to scramble or all cain will be had.
Calm Down! | 6:39 a.m. Nov. 8, 2009
I have never, ever seen so much criticism of the quality of a team that just won 52-0 as I have seen today in Deseret News comments.

Fellow BYU fans, let's face it: we're danged if we do and danged if we don't. Imagine what the Ute kiddies would be if BYU had beaten Wyoming by a more modest score, such as 22-10. "22-10? BYU is weak! No wonder they couldn't beat FSU or TCU!"

At least our team tried FSU. And TCU. And let's not forget OKLAHOMA.

The Utes have not played anyone decent yet--but they lost anyway--and they're in for a big surprise against their only two good opponents of the year, TCU and BYU. But don't worry, Uties: 9-3 is pretty good, and the MWC has a gazillion bowls, so you'll go somewhere (just not the BYU Bowl, aka the Las Vegas Bowl).
Eugene | 6:40 a.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Boring blogs from the Uters again? Give it up!

The Cougs would have gladly transfered 40 of the points racked up in Laramie to a win against TCU. TCU is rolling and not even Utah can stop them.

The Cougs will roll over Nex Mexico, have a great matchup with a win over AF, but doing a beatdown on the Uters will be sweet ending the regular season 10-2.

Go Cougs!
2 What?? | 6:56 a.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Prettey straightforward. It just illuminated the fact thet BYU had had the number for Wyoming for a few years. maybe not the biggest bombshell out there, but they thought it might be interesting. Usually it does not happen the 200+ to 17 mark. So they wrote about it since they are a newspaper and all. Not everyarticle is a blockbuster.
re: what??? | 7:57 a.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Don't read the article then if it bothers you. All its doing is showing how BYU has been dominating wyoming the last 4 years and its a big number. Maybe you're upset that its a way bigger margin than utah has beat them by? Even then it doesn't really matter, its just a fun stat and nothing to get upset about
Wyo to Big Sky or Bust | 7:57 a.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Well folks,

Wyoming coach Dave Christensen's comments sums it up:

“This is probably the most disappointing day in my coaching career,” Christensen, who is in his 25th season as a college coach, said. “We took steps back. I thought our program had improved. It’s an embarrassment.

“I’m embarrassed. I apologize. It was the worst effort I’ve ever seen by a football team.”

Adding to the fact that Wyoming only drew 19,000 fans to a game with its biggest rival, can someone please get Wyoming to the Big Sky sooner rather than later. This is where the Pokes belong.
Riley Nelson? | 8:18 a.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Seemed to take off running like a scared rabbit on every play. Hopefully this was planned, because I'm not sure that QB that can't throw is going to take us very far next year.
Anonymous | 9:31 a.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Really Ute fans - I don't read your articles or comment on them, because I don't care about your close wins to Colorado State and near loss to Air Force and lackluster performance against Wyoming. If it weren't for TCU's field goal kicker last year you wouldn't have won. TCU is a better team this year and is playing really well right now. Utah is not near the team they were last year - you guys can talk after that game - oh and keep it on the comment board for an article on Utah football.
Anonymous | 10:08 a.m. Nov. 8, 2009
So... BYU can destroy horrible teams, beat mediocre teams, but will always get destroyed by really good teams (and occasionally by mediocre teams). As a BYU fan, it is frustrating sometimes.
Re:Anonymous | 9:31 a.m | 2:23 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009

blah...blah...blah...

We've heard about the so-called "missed FG" in TCU-Utah game last year. Good team finds way to win. Good team causes the opponent's mishaps. Good team intercepts the opponent's passes --as much as I want to blame entirely on bad QB such as Maxi.

So, there it is Utah was a excelllent team last year that created their own chance to win games. In this rebuilding year, they are good team that has won close games.
3 more wins...and 11-1 rebuilding year.
BYU fan | 3:02 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Come on utah fans, why are you snipping at us for a 52-0 win over wyoming when you couldn't shut out a winless New Mexico team? Don't be talking when we go and shut out a better team at home when you can't even shut out the worst team in the league at home. Tsk tsk tsk
Dee J | 3:08 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
One word sums up the "Maginot Line" of BYU football: speed. FSU and TCU have it in spades; BYU does not. It doesn't matter whatever else BYU does to succeed, if the opponent has superior speed across the board (all other elements being roughly equal), BYU will always lose. The normal advantages no longer hold.

As for the game, for whatever reason, WYO looked slow, couldn't tackle, and were completely uninspired. If their average team speed in the 40 had been 3 tenths of a second faster, they could beat BYU walking away. Speed kills.
Why | 4:04 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Why is it the biggest, baddest insult Cougies can think of is suggesting a team go play in the Big Sky?

After beating the Aggies, "oh, they are so bad, they should go play in the Big Sky."

After beating UNLV, "oh, they are so bad, they should go play in the Big Sky."

After beating SDSU, "oh, they are so bad, they should go play in the Big Sky."

After beating CSU, "oh, they are so bad, they should go play in the Big Sky."

And now, after beating Wyoming, "oh, they are so bad, they should go play in the Big Sky."

Well, sounds to me like you're making the point the BCS folks are always saying about your schedule.

According to BCS teams you play a Big Sky schedule of teams and as such an undefeated season doesn't mean as much as a BCS team running the table.

Sounds to me like you're making their point for them.

So go ahead, keep reminding all your vanquished opponents how bad they are and how much they belong in the Big Sky, and the BCS folks will use the same argument for your schedule.
Re: Utah fans 6:28 | 4:21 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
Showing up for one week means nothing. Byu killed wyoming last year too. Winning against good teams is what matters. BYU has not done that yet(I know what you are thinking....Oklahoma....ok ok ok, please see below.

Re: Calm Down
Great job playing and getting destroyed by 4-5 Florida State and beating 5-4 Oklahoma when they were missing their quarterback for the half. (Yes I know what your thinking, Sam Bradford was there for the first half. Yes Texas was full strength too when Wyoming stayed with them for a half too. One half does not matter, Wyoming got killed) And then getting slaughtered by the only actual good team you played. And no, I don't expect Utah to beat TCU although Utah usually does play them tough. The BYU Utah game should be good this year. And 9-3 is really good for a team in a rebuilding year. 10-2 or 9-3 or whatever BYU ends up is a huge disappointment for a team that was supposed to go to the BCS this year. BYU has underachieved. Utah has not. After all that, honestly, great win yesterday.
Why? | 7:22 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Can someone remind me why Ute fans feel compelled to comment so much on BYU articles? I've never figured it out. I've been a BYU fan for decades and have rarely even read an article on Ute football, let alone comment on one. I just don't care. Why all the comments on something that has nothing to do with the Utes?

Idahoan | 9:12 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
One poster claimed that Paul Kruger is back for Utah. No he isn't.

I see no problem with informing us who carried out the flags. Some people like to know who these guys are.
re: WYO to Big Sky | 5:13 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
BYU is not Wyoming biggest rival. BYU is 2 -3 for most WYO fans (behind CSU and for some, AFA). There was only 19,000 fans in the stand because the Pokes aren't doing that well this year, but expect more fans onces the Pokes start getting more 'W''s on a regular basis.

Also, saying WYO belongs in the Big Skye is pretty insulting. You apparently don't remember, but it was a little more than a decade ago that it often came down to WYO vs. BYU for championships... Those days are coming back sooner than later, so enjoy dogging the Pokes while you can.
