Go Dixie Girls Volleyball!!!! Go Win State!!!!!
Volleyball Coverage | 7:53 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Shame on you Deseret News! Only One article on each of the 4A and 5A matches of the Volleyball State Tournament. Terrible coverage! You write and article for almost every football playoff game and the girls only get two articles. Terrible! These girls put in just as much time in their respective sports and deserve just as much attention. Give me a break. I know you will not post this comment because you don't believe in freedom of speech when someone calls you on your lack of fairness and discrimination. You are cowards. You know the influence of the media and you know what you can do to promote these young women and still you choose to downgrade their accomplishments and hard work by your lack of coverage and attention. Shame on you.

Amen to Volleyball coverage | 10:10 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
I agree, 32 matches and only one article and on top of that not all of the scores were posted. Shame! Shame! But it has been this way the whole year, not just during the state tournament. The few games that you did cover in the regular season were few and far inbetween and then you always are covering the same team each time. Let's hope you get the hint and improve your coverage on girls sports. Lets see If this gets posted, do you have the courage?

You hit the nail on the head!!! Dnews exerts its influence by ranking the teams, most of which they never see play, and then picks and chooses which team or couple of teams will get coverage in the tourney. According to what criteria? Personal favorites? Friends in coaching? I can't find anything out about 90% of the action for the first day. What happened in the winner's bracket quarterfinals? The girls stay up late but the newspaper can't get someone there to write up a small article on the games? It's pathetic--has been all year!!!
Re: Volleyball coverage | 5:59 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
The DNews writes about what people want to read, not necessarily what you personally want to read. Sorry if it's not what you want. As a tennis coach, I would love more coverage, but I also know something about economics. My tennis girls work just as hard as your volleyball players but get even less coverage. How is THAT fair?
