This had to be one of the best games ever. Neither team would give up. Emotions were crazy on both sides, but came back under control. Two different game plans. Too bad one team had to lose. Love to see that determination. Could have watched that game for another two hours. Best part were the two coaches rolling on the ground hugging at the end. Congratulations to two great teams!

Best High School game I have ever seen. Emotions running high. Both teams making plays. It was exhausting to just watch it. And the reffing was terrible, you would have thought they were being paid per flag thrown. Hunter you have made a believer out of me. Incredibly determined group of young men.

Re: Anonymous | 1:04 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Come on. I know that you're on the Hunter band wagon but Davis has a very good, well balanced team! There will be NO beatdown by Hunter! It should be a very good game! I will tell you that I was very surprised to hear that they beat LP after they barely beat Weber. I thought the LP passing game would get the best of them. I am so glad that they won, though, just to get the Region 4 teams/fans to shut up!!! Good luck Hunter in the semi's. It should be a great game between two teams that can really run the ball.

Awesome game. Its the best game I've seen in 25 years. Great Job Hunter. All week the media, papers made it sound like Lone Peak was just gonna run through Hunter to get to the turf. It just show's how stupid they can really be. Never under estimate a team with good coaching and one that has a rich tradition of fighting hard like a Wolverine.
STEELMAN | 7:53 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
I'm glad to see that coach Pearce can keep the kids emotion in check and focus on the game. I've seen too many times where Hunter would get easily distracted from other teams and start fighting and lose focus. Last night showed disciplined and class act Hunter. Good job on pulling the kids together to see the bigger picture. See you guys at the TURF. WEST SIDE HUNTER PRIDE!
Brad Jensen | 7:55 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Next to the 2003 State Title game, this game might have been the most exciting/important in Hunter's rich football tradition. It had everything! Tons of emotions, heck the referring, not wanting to be out done by the teams on the playing field, even got on board and supplied their own added drama to the game.

Hats off to Coach Pearce. Dicipline is 'again' spelled out throughout the program. I have a hard time believing that if a young man wants a good education and a great football experiance that Hunter isn't again back on his radar. Winning with class and dicipline, what an offer sheet.

Bingham, Davis, Alta, beware, momentum and confidence is a funny thing and this band of Wolverines appeares to possess them all, no longer getting caught up in their own selfish agendas, like years past.

My money/heart is with the Wo wo wo verines!

Yea no kidding about the refs, I was an Impartial observer and the refs really catered to the passing game of LP, there were several flags that were thrown against Hunter that really seemed unfair considering the many weird defensive chop blocks the LP was using that only received one or two flags.

Best High School game I have ever seen, intensity, big plays, run game Vs pass game, great game. Hunter players keep your intensity but don’t let your emotions take you out of the game it almost did last night in the third, just let your coach be emotional you guys just play and you will bring home a bigger trophy, everyone there could see that it was biased against you guys. LP players you guys played awesome as well……… it was to bad team had to lose

Go get um Wolverines

What an amazing game. People had counted Hunter out before the game began. They played harder than any team I've ever seen, and outlasted the Knights. Hunter is the story of the year, and they aren't done yet!!!
Way To Go Refs | 8:57 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Refs have a responsibility to protect the boys, especially when boys can't control thier emotions. Parents and fans allow thier emotions to get out of control as well. Usually the only level headed people in attendance are the refs and the people running the hot dog stand. Give the refs a big thank you from keeping some opposing player from breaking your son or classmates leg or bashing in his teeth or inflicting some injury that he may never recover from.

Congrats Dustin, and good luck against Davis, Hunter.
Great Year | 9:14 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
I thought this was a great game by both teams who couldn't be more different in their schemes. Though both sides almost imploded at times and tried to hand the game to each other, by the time the fourth quarter came around it appeared all the late hits and screaming at the officials ended and the boys played extremely well. As a LP day, I have to admit I love that Hunter offensive line. The longer the game went, the more apparent their 50 lb. per man advantage was going to be more than we could handle. The 5 turnovers vs. none for Hunter was huge. You throw in an offsides when Hunter was punting which gave them the ball and we had 6 turnovers which we could not overcome. Give a lot a credit to the RB's of Hunter for handling the ball that many times and not fumbling the ball even once.

Greatest Highschool game I have watched in years. Congrats to Hunter and good luck against Davis. To our boys, you should be proud of your effort all year long. Great job to the coaching staff and to Tannon Pedersen and all the boys.

I decided to go watch this game last night and boy was I glad I did! That may have been the best high school game I have seen as well! I was impressed by both teams and the kids from both schools. Nothing to hang your heads about Lone Peak. You had a great season. I thought LP would put a beat down on Hunter, but Hunter had a great game plan and just kept fighting. Hats off to both coaching staffs. Hunter needs to clean it up on the penalties to have a chance next week, but I for one am a believer in Hunter. Should be a great game against a good Davis squad.

Come on. I know that you're on the Hunter band wagon but Davis has a very good, well balanced team! There will be NO beatdown by Hunter!

From what I saw, Cottonwood, Skyline, Weber and Lone Peak all had balanced teams. Football is an amazing sport which anyone can beat anyone at any time. Hunter just has peaked at just the right time. This team reminds me of the 1999 team that lost to Taylorsville in the semi's. Both were under the radar and rose to the challange. Hopefully it will be a different outcome. Davis will be good, but I don't think teams like packing the box with 10 guys and still not be able to deffend the run. It should be a tough game.

Coach Pearce | 11:41 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Great job Dustin! Coach of the year in my opinion! We are so happy for you and your team! Best game I have ever seen in High School. Your confidence in your team made me believe too. Good luck next week against Davis. We are your biggest fans as you know! Pondo and AP.

Davis keep saying that u r well balanced and more disiplined and faster than hunter. That's what every team we have beat says. Lp defense was supposed to be amazing and the fastest in the state. They knew what the plays were and they still couldn't stop the running game. Lp fought as hard as u could expect and they should be proud. But hunter is really that good. They r as fast as the fastest, as strong as the strongest, as physical as anyone, and they have the strongest will I have ever seen. To credit Davis I am happy they won just like we did. Looks like region 4 was a bit overrated. All 4 number 1 seeds. Looks like uhssa got it right. Oh and to the parent who thinks the refs can make phantom calls just to keep players safe. If u don't want your kid injured he shouldn't play football. Just because one team is more physical dosent mean they should be penalized. It's like calling a foul on a team because they r faster. Injuries r part of the game. As long ad their legal hits

Five turnovers by LP to None for Hunter.

I am a hunter alum, and played on 3 varsity football teams that had a combined record of 30-6, and this group of kids has more character than any of those teams!! of the 3 teams i was a part of not 1 of them could have withstood the challenges that hunter faced in the 3rd quarter!! Most of that character reflects the attitude of the coaches, namely coach pearce. Him and his staff have done a great job. THEY WILL NOT QUIT!! look out for these boys to continue pounding it right into the finals!! LETS GO WOLVERINES!!!
Hunter Student | 2:13 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
What an awesome game! Wow both teams worked so hard and I am truly proud of both of them! Lone Peak fought hard and they are a good team. Hunter showed some great heart out there. Next week will be a good game against Davis they are also a good team, it now comes down to who wants it more.
GOODLUCK HUNTER make us proud!

Hunter Senior [A.E] | 3:13 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
I must say that this has been the best year to be enjoying as a Senior. Throughout my Sophomore and Junior years, we could have never imagined making it to the Semi-Finals. These boys have heart. They've got more potential than they themselves see. These past games have brought us all together and taught us that anything, absolutely anything is possible. For those of you that are players, DO NOT GIVE UP. Play this Friday like your life depended on it. Show Davis who's boss. You've worked so very hard to reach this. Don't let it go. The boys you play with aren't only your teammates, they are your family. So go out there on Friday, not with an attitude that will hinder a win, but humbly. Davis can control how fast they run, how hard they hit, but they cannot control your heart, or your dream. Good luck, make us proud.

Lone Peak KNIGHTS, you played one of the best games of the year and maybe even high school History. One news paper writer called it "EPIC" and we would have to agree. Everyone "showed up" and you young men played with all your "heart and sole". We know you wanted this game and it obvioulsy meant everyhting to you. We have followed you boys since you first started playing and you are some of the most talented players and together make the most talented high school Varsity teams in the state. You were well matched in this game and all in all you should have beat them hands down. Emotions were high and adrenaline was flowing but you guys kept your heads together and played your hearts out til the end. We are proud to be a Parent of KNIGHT. We love you guys and we are going to miss "FRIDAY NIGHT KNIGHTS, 2009". Good luck guys, we hope to see many of you playing college ball.

Is is easy for MC Fan to throw challenges over the wall that he knows he will never have to back up with his football pads. Saying 4A is better than 5A is like saying a peanut butter sandwich is better than lobster. NO credibility after a statement like that.

Hunter showed class and discipline when it appeared they were losing it in the 3rd quarter with so many penalties. Lone Peak had a few key penalties of their own at critical points of the game. Too bad Hannemann got hurt in the 1st half, I think he would have made a difference.

There's a quote, "The best players don't always win, the players that play the best win." Hunter played the best that night. Players and coaches need to always keep a cool head and not allow emotions to get the better of them. Congrats to both teams. Hunter, let's get a victory over Davis and show the state that your vicotry over Lone Peak was no fluke.

HUNTER!! Growing up at Hunter, i've always learned to fight for what i want...nothing was ever simply given to me...and, our football fought from the bottom to the top! that's how you know a good team from a bad team...they get BETTER as the season goes on!

good luck boyz!! let's hope we don't have lame reff's like last time...that called delay of game on us while we were on defense???
by the way....great job drill team! and, great job girls volleyball team! Region Champs!!
Re:HHS!!2010!! | 9:25 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
yes you can get a delay of game on defense.

HHH!!2010
Try reading the rule book sometime. Did you know you can have pass interferance on the Offense also, and Blocking Below the waist on the Defense? How about block in the back? Defense can get it also.
Duh!!!!
Re:HHS!!2010!! | 10:04 a.m. Nov. 10, 2009
Delay of game on defense? I was at the game & I saw the defense get penalized for having 12 players on the field, but I didn't see a delay.

its ok you must be a high school kid new to the sport of football.
