Great Game!! | 10:42 p.m. Nov. 6, 2009
It was great to see the Miners pull out the win! What a hard fought game!! Hats off to Syracuse. They are definitely a good, tough team! #27 Travis McRae was a maniac on defense!! Good luck to Bingham next week! Take down the Hawks!!
Were you there? | 10:45 p.m. Nov. 6, 2009
The writer of this story must not have been to the game. The first half was only close in score. Bingham fumbled on the 1 yard line going in and then again on the 10 yard line going in. It could have easily been 17 to 3 at halftime. Bingham moved the ball down the field almost at will in the first and second half. I was impressed by Syracuse as they do try and fly to the ball and work very hard. They were just outmatched in every part of the game. Only thing that was even was the kicking game.
Impressed by Syracuse | 11:41 p.m. Nov. 6, 2009
For a school that has only been around for 3 years I was very impressed by many things. You brought alot of fans, you brought a great band, your cheerleaders and student body cheer hard and load, your team works hard and is well coached, and your kids play with class. I hope other than it did not work out for you on the score....you found Bingham to be a class organization as well. It's great to have another very good 5A program to make us all better.
Very Nice!!!

Kicking game? | 11:43 p.m. Nov. 6, 2009
Great kickers - indeed, but even? When the motivating end of the Titans was a blocked punt for TD! Agree with all but that comment. Except for turnovers and drive stopping penalties, the score is at least 17-3 at half. Titans great fundamental team.
Dominated tonight, and that was not the top defense in the state, wearing white jerseys.
Great blocking and defending Miners. All four #1 seeds in semis. Fun!

Thank you Syracuse Titan young men. We are so proud of you. It was a great season! We couldn't have asked to lose to a classier/tough team in Bingham. It was a great first half that we really showed our strength on defense but in the second half when our offense kept miss firing, it really hurt the "D" and they ran out of gas. Hats off to the Miners. You were well coached and you have some amazingly big/fast young men. I hope you take it to Alta and delete Region 4 right out of the playoffs!
Thank you Coach Jones and the rest of the Syracuse coaching staff, we think you were great this season and even though our son will graduate, we will be right back in the stands cheering for many years to come!!

Alta vs Bingham
For the REAL state championship!

It sounds like it was a great game... I cant wait to see them play agianst alta next week... GO MINERS!!!
A Bingham Fan | 10:08 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Congratulations Bingham on a great game. I agree with comments above that Bingham owned the first half with the exceptions of penalties and turnovers - yardage 159 to 59 and 1st downs 10 to 4. After seeing the highlights on the news I'm still not convinced Langi fumbled at the one; it looked like the ground caused the fumble. In any case, I thought the Titan defense was gritty in the first half with a bend but don't break effort.

Bingham is tough to contain for four quarters - whether it's offense, defense or special team there are playmakers on every side of the ball. The (varsity) defense was huge allowing only 90 yards into the fourth quarter. Bingham coaches - great tactics at the end of the half. It would have been easy to just let the clock expire and not reach for the opportunities in a fourth down play inside the ten.

Congratulations to Syracuse on a fine season and a fine program. Your young men represented you well on the field and you brought great support. I hope you continue to grow the program.

It should be another classic with Alta. Go Miners!

"Were you there? | 10:45 p.m. Nov. 6, 2009"
Yes, I think he was there, in the south section of the press box. I should have asked the reporter who was there what media outlet he works for so I could be certain.
For those who want to say that Bingham dominated every aspect throughout the game except score, you need to remember one thing. The score determines who wins, so it was not only close until that blocked punt, it was tied. I saw two offenses that were shut down by the other team's defense for two quarters. Yes, Bingham got close twice but didn't score. Turnovers are part of the game, as are penalties and Bingham had enough of both in the first half. In no small part due to a tough Syracuse defense.
The second half was a different story, after the Syracuse players who went both ways got tired. Bingham's offense wore them out and started dominating. No offense meant to Syracuse, but that's the way I saw the second half play out. Bingham dominated Syracuse after halftime. Next week's game will be tough to the end.

I'd love to see bingham try to stop alta's passing attack again. Last game Alta decided to run? Who knows why hamilton thought running against bingham would work. Alta cannot play smashmouth football against bingham, they have to beat them through big plays and holding bingham to field goals and long third downs. I am excited to see Alta-Bingham back in Rice Eccles.
ohhhhhhh | 10:39 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Moded Syracuse!
Defense | 10:57 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Syracuse it's easy to have the stingiest defense when you don't play anybody that's good. I guess we now know who has the best and stingiest defense now. Bingham stats during the regular season were great. Against Utah schools they gave up 31 first qtr points 38 second qtr points 7 third qtr points and 50 fourth qtr points. If you throw out the fourth qtr points when the second string is in and eliminate Alta's points just because they are the second best team in the state. :) Bingham's defense held their opponents to just over five points during the first three qtrs.
BHS | 11:01 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Syracuse is no match for Bingham. Syracuse has a simiple offense with no creativity. Their defense was way overrated and only ranked high due to the poor offense in region 1. Bingham is great and should go all the way but you never know.
ALTA!! | 11:05 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Bingham: slow, soft and overrated
Alta: fast, strong and underrated
Davis: not to good
Hunter: lucky

Good luck miners cause alta is about to make it three in a row.

Turn in your pads bingham cause your weak, and choke every year. You may have gotten lucky at the first of the season but Alta runs the show now!
Score | 11:15 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
BINGHAM could have scored 62 again! They took it easy!
re: Defense and BHS | 12:02 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
First off, the Titan defense is not overrated. When it's on the field almost the entire third quarter, it's going to give up points due to fatigue. The offense is simple and a few key injuries made it even more so. The defense is good, but the team was unbalanced.
If you want to talk about weak regions though, look in the mirror. Bingham comes from arguably THE weakest region in the state. West Jordan has no defense and will never go anywhere but one and out in the playoffs. Riverton, Copper Hills, Kearns, etc are not even on the radar.

However, hats off to you. You were the better team, and a very classy organization, with the exception of a few nuts that don't know what they're talking about. Good luck against Alta-I'll be rooting for you.
BHS | 12:02 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Man Alta gots it coming. We're gonna leave it all on the field we don't talk online we'll shut them up by the end of next week. Alta your not even looking as tough as before but I'm not going to underrate you Bingham will show up to play and they'll be lookin to punk you guys and Binghams lookin to make it 10 in a row Better talk it up while you hawks can. And to those syracuse fans good game you played tough.
O and D Line | 12:20 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
I made a comment last night but it got lost. My hats off to the O-Line and D-Line. Our big guys move the Syracuse defensive line 4-8 yards off the ball on almost every play. Our back ran hard but for the most part were not touched for the first 5 yards. Ty had lots of time to check off on receivers and showed great poise and presence.

Our D-Line was awesome keeping a pretty good athelete on the run must of the time and not allowing a run game to exist.

Our O-Line and D-Line need some props. They are the heart of this team.

#62 Heaps, #Laursen, #70 Taukeiaho, #78 Kanuch, #71 Vasui, #88 Copier, #98 Fauoniku, #56 Kaumatule, #64 Tausinga, #69 Clayson (always loved this kid).

I know I missed several guys so please help fill in the the rest. These guys deserve some props.
John Anderson | 12:31 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Although I'm not "Travis's mom" (that's a joke whomever wrote that), I think he had an incredible game and has had a very very good year. He is a true football that plays with a ton of heart and had top notch athletic abilities. He really does emulate the style of defense coach Peck teaches. He flys around all game, plays with great speed, and brings big time hits. And....his special team play was a thing of beauty.

I was very happy with the play of our DB's last night. They looked very good as a unit. Peck had great coverage and always brings a load when he hits. Smith and Koon are a great combo for Standard and Nickle. And Braden is a very good cover guy and just fun to watch.

With that said....the thing that has shown tough each week is our D-line and Linebackers. They play with great intensity every play and put on some big time hits. We took a big lose with Ramooooon going down but like Bingham and coach Peck....no excuses...put in the next stud and go get er done.
re: ALTA!! | 12:32 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
You have obviously never seen a Bingham-Alta game. Or you just want to stir the pot on the blog. Bingham is big and bad, and i'm an Alta fan. Their running attack is fierce thanks to a HUGE offensive line and that monster Langi. Maybe Alta is underrated, but this game will be close. Most games between Alta and Bingham are decided by 4 points or less. Remember 38-34 (2009), 21-17 (2008), and when bingham took state 21-19 (2006)
Titan Mom | 12:56 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
I have to say that I am so proud of our Titan Team! They have put their hearts into everything that they have done. For a new school to have made it to the semi-finals and the quarter-finals the last two years is amazing. Hold your heads up high! You are classy players on and off the field. you play hard, but clean football and we are so proud of you. We look forward to next year and being able to cheer you on to more victories. Job Well Done!!!
re: re: Defense and BHS | 3:33 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
I guess the nuts you are refering to must be those that write the newspaper articles. They are the one that were touting Syracuse having a stingy defense. Like I said, just a weak region.
Holtster | 4:50 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
We may have lost this game, but I'm still a "Titan for life!" You boys make us proud every week by who you are and what you stand for. You have surprised many over the past two years. You can add a surprised Bingham to that list as they underestimated you at first. It stings right now, but you will look back on these years with fondness. Athletes at Syracuse High School now know what excellence looks like and that you can't use being a new school as an excuse. Thanks for giving my young boys dreams of being just like you.

greatjob you titans it was a honor to watch you guys play football you should be very proud of yourself make it to the top the last two years other schools know what kind of football you play great job by all

Nice win Bingham. Coach Peck, you are an outstanding coach. The real championship game will be this week though. Good luck to you against Alta. I think you have there number this year. It will be an exciting game. Who knows though, every year it seems to be a toss up. Much respect to the Miners and keep up the great work.

Without taking anything from a very talented Bingham team, it did seem that after the loss (to injury) of a couple of players, the Titan team seemed to lose a great deal of their on-field leadership...their heart...and things went quickly from bad to worse. It was discouraging for us fans to look down from the bleachers and see the two of you on the sidelines. It's interesting to see how some student athletes lead on and off the field. I hope you are both recovering quickly, thanks for a great season, thanks for your dedication and thanks for providing so much of the heart of this year's Titan football team.

Titan Fan, sorry that some of your best players got hurt. I hope they make full and speedy recoveries.

Re: 10:08 "After seeing the highlights on the news I'm still not convinced Langi fumbled at the one"

Yes, it was a fumble, and a great call by the officials. I was taking photographs from the back of the end zone, and I've got a series of shots showing a Syracuse player pulling the ball loose as Langi was going down. The ball was clearly in the air when his knees touched the ground.
Jordan Grad 09' | 9:34 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Both Teams are Fantastic! alta and bingham but i do believe bingham has the edge! i've had the pleasure of watching bingham play 3 games this year (Vs. Trinity in texas, vs. alta at home, and vs. Jordan at home) and im sorry...but bingham should have won the trinity game if they would have committed to throwing the ball down field they would have won that game each drive was stopped becuase langi couldnt get going. they should also put that #9 on offense more...i havent seen a faster player this whole year! they beat alta from that come from behind 4th quarter and i dont expect them to have to come from behind again i think they win this game by 14 alta is not the same team that played bingham earlier this year...they are much worse...and bingham vs jordan...obviously bingham can put up HUGE offensive numbers scoring 62 in that game...i just..idk i dont see the miners losing! and there is NO team in the state more deserving of that title than Bingham! there is no classier team in the state! no harder working team in the state! go miners!!!
RE: Jordan Grad 09' | 11:33 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009
Thanks for the comments, you are obviously a class act. Hope we can get this one, and good luck to you in life!

Thanks "Titan Fan" for your comments! The boys (at least ours) are recovering well. Too bad it had to happen when it did. Injuries come when you play SO hard! I really appreciate your comment about being leaders on and off the field. We LOVE football! But life is what is important and these boys ARE GREAT off the field as well. Thanks to the football coaches, teammates, teachers, families, and all the others who have helped them become who they are! We love the Titans! Go get 'em next year!
By the way - Congrats to Bingham. They are a class act. So many of the players AND the coaches had so many great things to say to our son! Thank you! As he said earlier on Friday - We're not afraid of you. We do respect you Bingham. You again earned that respect in his mind on Friday night. Thanks guys!
Re:Proud Titan (#7) Mom  | 3:16 p.m. Nov. 10, 2009
I'm a Bingham fan to the core but have to think that if your boy plays the entire game, things are a little different. Not sure if we still do not win but your #7 was a flat out player. Is he a junior or senior? Will he recover completely? I really do care. He was fun to watch and would love to watch more.
