In a funk... In a funk?

How could you possibly be in a funk in the biggest MWC game of the year?

The Cowboy fans will welcome the Cougars with a hostile environment. The Cougars will characteristically fold under the pressure.

Stick a fork in 'em, the Cougars are done.
moose on the loose | 11:06 p.m. Nov. 6, 2009
oh Howard S you and the rest of the ute nation would love to truly believe that BYU is done. You really know that BYU wins out and you end up in San Diego bowl again. Yes Vegas will take BYU again, simply because they put fans in the seats. Probably will be a few ute "fans" in the vegas bowl watching too. See BYU travels well and they even drag along a few BYU "haters" such as yourself.

Until some changes are made, this team is just not showing chemistry. It may be a few coaches need to go and bring some different attitude or charisma, but beating the lower to middle of the pack in or conference is just not fun to watch when you come out flat against TCU and Utah. I'm tired of it.

Note to Tom Holmoe & Coach M: My $800 ticket money is going into food storage next year and the year after..etc. if no changes are made somewhere. I won't sit through any more home blowouts! I don't mind a loss...but at least play the whole game and make it a GAME.
Re: moose on the loose | 11:06 p | 12:03 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Hey, Moose...BYU may not be putting fans in the seats as you predict in your usual arrogant tone. Please see: Cougar Power | 11:40 p.m.
re:moose on the loose | 1:38 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
utah fans travel very well also.... just to New Orleans, Tempe AZ etc.
South Bend Cougar | 4:44 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Too many people take sports way too seriously. Its just a game and the players are just kids. Go Cougars & do your very best today.

...Note to Tom Holmoe & Coach M: My $800 ticket money is going into food storage next year and the year after..etc. if no changes are made somewhere...

what's with the "if"? Bronco already said...stay the course. What do you think will happen when they "stay the course"? BYU will lose to powers like TCU, Utah and will win against the likes of UNLV, UNM, etc

Take your $800 and donate to charities.

Or occasionally, drive up north and watch how a real football team should play --join us at Ute Nation!
Clawson not brutal | 7:21 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
I don't know how you can claim that Clawson's hit on Bradford was brutal. I've seen it dozens of times and there was nothing violent about it. The fact that Bradford was hurt seemed to be a pure fluke, until it happened again against another team.

No, it can't be characterized as a brutal hit.

Dick,

You know what is even more vital than momentum? Winning.
BYU by 30 | 7:57 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
BYU will win this one by 30. I don't see a let down.
Bear Laker | 7:57 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
It isn't arrogant to say BYU travels well, because there are BYU fans everywhere they go because of their church affiliation plus all those who do travel with the team. Cougar Power, I think you are a pathetic, spoiled, boorish fan. Good bye fair weather fan. Enjoy your food storage.
moose @11:06 p.m.  | 8:02 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
moose says... "See BYU travels well and they even drag along a few BYU "haters" such as yourself."

Intersting, you'd think with all that support the Cougars could get themselves invited to a BCS game like Utah, Hawaii, and BSU.

But I guess not....
Wyoming May Win | 8:05 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
I am a BYU fan that has been to several games in Laramie. Wyoming always plays BYU tough there. If BYU comes in without a game plan to address Wyoming's weaknesses, they will lose. BYU is too inward focused on execution without focusing on an opponent's points of weakness.
re: re: moose on the loose | 8:15 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
No, no, no, Nannette, the arrogant tone started with Howard S. Play nice, children!

Whether it's Max, or just coincidence, the past two years the cougars have been a head case. With the exception of the OU game, and try all you want, OU is a GOOD team, if not the giant they have been in the past.

But Moose, I don't think, and I don't want to be picked by Vegas again. I'll settle for winning out, including a whupping of Utah, and an invite to San Diego or some bowl statistically better than Vegas.

The Vegas - BYU connection is like a teacher's pet. It's getting old.
TrueRed | 8:33 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
"a few coaches need to go"...why not start with the head coach"/...listen to the guy on 1280 the zone interview.."all is well"; "do not need to give pep talk";

Man, is this guy up in the night!
TED | 8:59 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
I've been a BYU fan all my life. To have a player say "we've got our swagger back" is an all tell comment about what is wrong with BYU football! How about saying "we've got fire back in our guts" instead? SWAGGER? You have got to be kidding me!
Anonymous | 9:05 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
If a team is favored to win by two touchdowns, that doesn't mean the line makers predict that's what will happen. All it means is that they had to spot BYU two touchdowns in order to balance out the number of people betting for each team.
Cougar Blue | 9:25 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Can somebody please explain to me how you can be in a funk on the sideline and have no energy against TCU.Our cougars were playing a team that had crushed them a year earlier and ended their big conference winning streak. It should have been easy for them to be super exited to play that game.If you can't get up to play in a game like that then you don't deserve a scholarship.I believe the real root of the problem was that the cougs had no real belief or confidence that they could win the game. They were beaten before they ever took the field.
Let's see | 9:30 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
If BYU can dominate Wyoming as badly as Utah did...
Dick Right On | 9:44 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
This game is a huge measuring stick. We can't do anything now about the heartless showing against FSU and TCU. But the Cougs admit it themselves. No excuses - they know they played poorly and without emotion. Today is the day to change it and make the end of this season very different than last season ended. How today goes will be the key to whether we repeat 08' or write a different ending. A few deep Jacobson bombs may provide that fire that has been missing. I think Hall will go deep to him very early. I'm extremely interested and excited to see if the Cougs come out with fire and intensity just like Harmon indicated. Go Cougs!!

And Cougar Power - you have every right to spend your $800 on something else. But food storage? Come on, Mormons get mocked enough. The most exciting you can get is wheat and bottled fruit? Can you say stereotype reinforcement?
?????? | 9:48 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
How can BYU win on the road, but choke so badly at home?

re: Let's see | 9:49 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Seriously. The Utes just CRUSHED Wyoming....oh wait, no. No they didn't.
Ernest T. Bass | 10:12 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Ute fans need to realize that they will never have a football team as awesome as BYU. The Utes will never have super awesome recruits like BYU gets every single year. The Utes will never have a coach as special, awesome, righteous and awesome as Coach Bornco. The Utes will never have such a gifted and natural leader as Maxine Hall. I for one, don't know why we just don't forfeit our football team to BYU. It makes perfect sense. BYU is so humble, yet so awesome.
Don't worry about the funk.... | 10:24 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Bronco and his team spent a lot of time this week "TALKING about the importance of momentum." AND, "they are getting their swagger back."

Therefore, things will be fine.
c'mon Dick | 10:38 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
If you are going to list your win loss % like you are some sage of college football, make your picks against the spread. It is easy to sit back and call games like Utah vs Nm or BYU vs. Wyo. My little sister could get those picks right. Stop patting yourself on the back.
Big Frank | 10:42 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
I like BYU in this game. However Cougar player/coaches desire/intensity to play is suspect. How they ever were as highly ranked as they were shows the utter biaseness in the polls. MWC conference teams, including TCU are not BCS bowl candidates. Just enjoy the games and do as they do in New York.....FORGET ABOUT IT.
Mizzou Blue | 11:04 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
I'm with South Bend Cougar. Best wishes to our Cougars today for a great game in Laramie.
Digbads | 11:13 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Why are ute fans always trolling on here for BYU articles? There should be some articles about them somewhere, now that the utes are actually somewhat interesting now that they have become "BYU North" with Whittingham.
As far as season tickets at BYU... I'd be quite happy if a few people gave up their season tickets so we could have ours move a bit closer to the field. I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

byu stinks
THEeyepatch | 12:56 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Momentum for what, beating a bad team. TCU showed us the true BYU team. I was hoping that Wyoming would make a game of it, BUT as of now BYU is up 24-0 with 9 minutes in the second. Momentum would have been a win against TCU.
HAHAHAHA | 1:10 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
How many were there that predicted a Wyoming win? This is TOO good 31-0
Re: Anonymous @ 11:44 a.m.  | 1:13 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
if BYU stinks, then what is Wyoming or how about Utah that had troubles with Wyoming @ HOME? BYU IS HANDLING WYOMING in front of all those cowboy fans. LOL!!!
Play calling | 1:19 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
It is very apparent by the play calling, that the coaches are not holding the BYU players back. I believe the cougars have talent and should be able to compete better against good teams like TCU. It just seems that the coaches are very conservative and hold back the talent they have when playing good teams!
Don't worry about Momentum... | 1:24 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
... BYU will get enough of it back to keep winning and then destroy Utah on November 24th. It will then continue into their bowl game and next season as the cougars bring in the best recruiting class ever! So don't worry about momentum, BYU's getting back starting today as they blowout Wyoming!
LItt brothers | 1:25 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Hey little cewgies, last I checked we are 14 in BCS and you are not in the picture. It's funny how you look down on us all the time but the facts will say otherwise.
Play calling? | 5:51 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Really? You believe TCU won in Provo because of conservative play calling by the BYU coaching staff?

Or maybe, TCU is just flat out better than you. I know, it is hard to believe, but everyone who isn't a BYU homer knows it.

And Mr. "Don't worry about Momentum," do you really want to use blowing out Wyoming as a yardstick for the re-resurrection of BYU football? I mean, the Cougs blew them out last year, yet finished with three embarrassing losses in last year's Quest for Perfection season.

Let's just play them one game at a time, and concentrate on winning some of the big ones.

yup  | 5:52 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
What do you think Dick? Did it show? Was a 7 touchdown win plus good enough for you.

re" Litt brothers. The last time I checked you haven't beat anyone with a winning record. After next week you'll be eating some huge crow.
Observer | 4:44 a.m. Nov. 8, 2009
No, 'yup', when Utah loses to TCU, they will not be eating huge crow. They will just say with arrogance, "We knew we were going to lose because we are in a building year. Unlike the Cougar fans, we have perspective." This is what they said when they lost to Oregon. But when they win, well...they are the best in the world. They will always have an excuse when they lose that makes them look superior. And then they will troll and make people think they are Y fans that say incredibly stupid things. Any thinking person can tell the difference between a Y fan and a Ute troll. When a supposed Y fan says things like,"We are back on track for a BCS bowl game" or other such idiotic comments, you know they are trolls. No BYU fan says that. We knew when we lost to TCU, it was over. There's a Ute fan that is totally obnoxious about their wins until they lose and then he says with all the apathy he can muster, "I only care about basketball, not football"....until basketball season comes. Nice try, Utes, but we're on to you.
