I'm sorry your son had to experience this so young in his life. This makes no one stronger, just leaves them feeling insecure and non-trusting for a long time. I'm also not shocked at all for how poorly public school personnel handles these situations. I spoke to Luz Robles, a State Senator today about a similar situation and she was just leaving to visit one of the school districts to demand some answers on a case. I think you should contact her and make her aware that this happened to your family. This will be most helpful in the interim. Good luck

I agree Jacklin. I hope your son grows stronger through this trial.

So your kid becomes violent towards another because of what he says and it's the other kid who has a problem? Sounds like you're playing the race card to me...

Lat time I was in Mexico the people called me gringo. I tried to stop them but they police put me in jail. The world isn't perfect. Try turning the other cheek. If this buly is stupid, ignore him and walk away. He must change himself.

Oh Rosa... you forgot this is Utah, where hate and ignorance prevails every time... In Utah, everyone who is Mexican “looking”, is an Illegal Alien, and as such, they (and their children) can be treated like dirt.
Brother Chuck Schroeder | 8:14 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Racism?, there's NO SUCH THING, you gotta be kidding, why would you say that, is it because Utah must QUIT letting in those illegals, that can't read or write English, the data show Hispanic and lower-income students continue to struggle with writing skills, this would go away. Is this Racism?. Telling the truth's. You tell me. Or is it, "folling the law's of this land"?. To the letter.
Bro Chuck's Rant n Rave's | 8:18 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
YOU just pejoratively label anyone who disagrees with YOU as having a racist behavior.
Jaunita | 8:19 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Racism goes both ways and sad that will never change. Adding the fact of the high cost of educating the children of illegals has added fat tot the fire. When hispanics refuse to speak english in front of others they know do not speak their language is also a form of racism. No one is against bilingual speakers but there is a time and place. Racism will always play a role in society and government cannot even with laws change it. It is human nature

I'm sorry for your experience with bullies at school. Our experience was the exact opposite with our son in elementary school. He was being bullied by two african american boys and the school wouldn't do anything about it. Why? Becuase they are so afraid of the ACLU and being sued by the minorities. What can be done? Well, thats a question that is difficult to answer in this day of lawyers and the PC society we live in.
come on sutton...... | 9:58 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
I won't disagree that some Utahns commit spiteful acts. This thread is one example of that. I will disagree that all Utahns feel and act that way. In my city I've seen many acts of kindness ranging from a simple visit, gifts of food and babysitting, and even the complete installation of a sprinkler system and sod when the city threatened to fine the family for a bad lawn.

If unkind and spiteful acts happen we should work to correct them. We shouldn't blame all of Utah for it.

Uhh, what else do you expect living near so many republicans?
@James | 10:16 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
I am sorry, but after a month of verbal abuse, I would have done the same thing.

sutton | 7:52 a.m. and Ernest T. Bass | 9:59 a.m provide the best examples of hate and intolerance on here - maybe we shoud hit them too lol
Her kid | 1:56 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
physically attacks another, (he has a convenient racist excuse) and she is getting sympathy here.
From Cali | 2:37 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Weird, my experience was just the opposite. When I was going to elementary school in San Diego, I was routinely picked on by several Mexican kids. The difference, was I didn't turn violent against them.
geriatric racism | 3:10 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
So much of the geriatric population is very racist. Stems from fighting the Japanese is WWII. Then they dislike the Jewish people because they have done so well in business.
Now they are especially racist towards middle eastern people because of 911 and more recent news.
The 55 and older communities and other older residents in St. George area are very racist, holding meetings and rallies to push for the passage of laws on immigration reform.
Apparently, they have forgotten who will do the work of cleaning up after them.
tenx | 3:47 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
3:10 p.m. - Make that inforcement of our immigration laws. We cleaned up for ourselves for many years and can do it quite well thank you. Viva legal immigration!!
Racists are brown and black too | 3:50 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
Was your son here legally and are YOU here legally?
If you are I sympathise. If you are not, while I cannot support the actions of the other boy, I cannot support your personal complaint either.

The "race card" is old. It has worn corners and cracked paint. It is usually misplayed. Most of the racism today seems to come from strident minorities that actually want special treatment, treatment like the right to disregard immigration law, the right to drive without a genuine Driver's License, the right to purchase false identification, to steal another's ID and put them through hell, to take away income from the citizen and the legal resident.

So I ask again: Are you here legally? If you are I will be sympathetic to the harrassment of your son although, by the way, he has no right to lay his hands violently on anyone else, except in the physical protection of his own life.

If anyone of any race is here illegally we should be insisting that employers stop hiring such outlaws, and insisting that our Congress makes sure that happens, and punishes renegade employers.
Paul Macfarlane | 4:49 p.m. Nov. 7, 2009
You are just making an excuse for your son resorting to physical aggression in response to verbal aggression. Your son needs to grow thicker skin, and realize that the bullies will always be around, and it is not the principal's job to censor every student's expression of his opinion. By responding the way he did, your son became a bigger bully than the pitiful child spewing his feelings about Mexicans.

WHO CARES is they're here legally! Teach your children not to taunt people of other races! It's RUDE.
@pathetic | 8:36 p.m. Nov. 8, 2009
I was always taught not to taunt people - period. It was not confined to people of other races.

I would like to know the full background of this specific situation and to have both boys free to speak their mind. News programs could have them interviewed. It might be very enlightening.
