You wonder why I would rather have a atheist in the foxhole next to me.

I was listening to an intellectual elitist on NPR out of San Francisco. He was commenting how Americans fail to understand that the Taliban see this as a religious war. We don't tech history, so few of you know about the Crusades. Taliban recruiters call us crusaders.

I know this isn't a revelation, conservative have a stake in a lie. In the worldview of Reagan's neocons, creating an evil empire would help their political cause. We trained and equipped Islamic extremist to fight their Evil Empire, the Soviets.

This short sighted worldview, created within these religious extremist the idea that they are god's chosen because god helped them defeat the Soviet invasion.

Today, these extremist believe god will help them defeat us too. Because the Taliban gained control of 90% of Afghanistan this views as been reinforced.

In my short 56 years, I've seen more hatred from the faithful than any other group. I'm stuck by the talk ofa loving god, and the hatred of his followers. You see this with their treatment of Obama.

Not everyone who cries unto me Lord, Lord will enter into the kingdom of heaven. Broad is the way and wide is the gate that leadeth unto death and many there be that go in thereat. God is loving, people are not. Most people don't read their Bibles and pray. They're not forgiving, which is why all the divorces. If they were and read scriptures and prayed, we'd have a Zion Society already! But as it is people prefer to spend their time and money on things that don't matter like sports, clothes, cars and other senseless worldly things.

Don't judge God by the examples of people, judge God after getting to know him. Read! This is life eternal that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent!

I think the most intersting part of this story is the family not trying to defend the shooter or justify his actions at all. This has got to be the first time I've heard someone's family react the way I think most of us would. It was dispicable and deplorable. God bless all those that are affected.

I agree w/Chadders 100%. Aside from the unfortunate results of this clown's actions, it is about time family members with some honor and responsibility have spoken up NOT in defense of the murderer. Too often, violent crimes against innocents in this country are quickly followed by family members' responses about the perpetrator's(sic?) having been; "a good kid", "visited his grandmother every day", "was spanked as a child" or some other irresponsible gibberish. Thank you to the man's family and my sincerest thoughts are with you and the families of the other victims.

One of our most basic human rights is our right to protect ourselves and our families from harm. Ironically, there are few gun-free zones as gun-free as a military base. Everyone is disarmed and defenseless except a few MPs (but only when on duty) and those bent on harming others (any time they want). I hold the authorities who establish gun-free zones just as accountable for the deaths as the shooter himself. It is foolish to assume that disarming good people makes bad people behave as they should.

Wow! Some guy shoots up Ft. Hood and immediately somebody gets on here and claims it's the fault of the conservatives because they hate Obama. After 56 years you would think you could exercise even a little bit of reason.

If by "others" you mean "soldiers with mental problems that may cause them to kill family members or co-workers".
You probably don't hear about it, or make a big fuss about it, when the shooter has a European name.

The military is decidedly a no liberal zone so if they have gun free zones I can guarantee it's for other reasons like it being a MENTAL health facility?

It reminds me of the atmosphere of Obama's opponents, the poster boy being Glen Beck. He uses extreme language and fear mongering to incite his listeners.

It is what it is. Tragic yes. But the motive? An anti-American MUSLIM who feels put upon by military because he opposed the war. The military is voluntary, just as his CHOICE of his family to move here and his CHOICE to stay. Sorry I have no sympathy or patience for anyone who volunteers to serve in our armed forces, cashes the paychecks, and then complains when they have to earn them. I am a military wife.

This guy had a problem with our country. Tired of all the sympathizing for people who don't want to be here. Our president is an anti-American, muslim sympathizer. This blood is on his hands. This man acted like a terrorist, treat him like one.

Just another Islamic religious fanatic. He received his medical education from the army - with a nice pay scale while he was foing it - and he feels put upong to have to serve.

Sometimes I wonder if the world is just falling apart. This guy obviously lost it but somehow he must have really believed that killing innocent soldier would somehow benefit his fellow muslims. I guess I just don't understand. There is no single perfect group of people. I don't care if you are an athiest or a religious person of any religion. There are law abiding people who want to do good to their fellow man and there are people that are selfish or do things that they think will benefit them. I don't agree with extremist muslims. I also don't go kill them because I disagree. I do feel like we need to protect our freedom.

This is just a tragedy. This was an obviously intelligent man who must have been severly misguided. I just say stop pointing fingers. Left, Right, Middle, it doesn't matter in a case like this. We need to come together instead of playing the blame game. This has nothing to do with obama or Glenn Beck.

I would like to see the media NOT publicize the pictures of the people who commit these kinds of acts, for that is what they crave--"stardom," revenge etc. If we must report on them at all, let us just limit it to words, not pictures. These types of acts inspire copycats. Suicide is "contagious" (according to Freakanomics?)
