Way to go RSL. What a comeback! That was probably the biggest win in franchise history.

After they pulled even at the half I knew RSL would pull away. Way to go RSL!

I feel rejoice with all my new Real Salt Lake friends and family. I wish could be with you all partying baby..

Incredibly proud of our warriors and heroes... We came out and attacked. Russell and Espindola gave away the ball twice early and could have cost us but did not. You ave to give it up to Scheloto. However, one of the 2 he scored, what a terrible turnover from Russell.

Nonetheless, we could have quit bit did not. Morales what a goal and what a set up. Robbie tying on a good penalty call. How about Andy Williams what an end of the season! Kyle helped with the distraction acting like a screen. Columbus was getting frustrated and we did an excellent job not only holding the lead but not sitting on it. Yura came close with a great shot wide left. The Olaye missed a sitter. Still this proved the best form of defense.

Nickie made 2 excellent saves to preserve the lead but we owned them.

Credit tonight for getting to the semis to the whole squad, Olaye was everywhere playing physically Beckerman outstanding, all of them...

Lets hope this spurs our Jazz and Sloan

3-2?

I hope Columbus didn't go away with hurt feelings.

A tie would have been a much more compassionate demonstration of futbol.
Real SL is for real! | 8:39 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
What a great example of heart and never-say-die guts!Congratulations!
Not really a soccer fan | 8:46 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
but way excited for the local team to advance! Go RSL!
Doubter | 8:49 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
considering rsl's dismal road record, I didn't have high hopes going into this game. I was afraid that rsl would just try to sit back to protect the aggregate lead, and that columbus would eventually pound the ball in. To come back and win after such a horrible start was impressive. Great game, great win. Keep it up next week!

#8 takes down #1! I'm Salt Lake 'til I die!
Amazing Game | 8:51 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Huge props to RSL for not giving in after Columbus scored 2.
Chadders | 9:03 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
We did it & we did it the right way! Nice effort by everyone. I'd give EVERYONE a player rating of 7 or higher. 2009 MLS Cup Champs RSL? Why not us? Why not now?

Great game RSL. Didn't quit after going 0-2. Congratulations!

Any body know when is the eastern con. final? sat or Sunday?
RSLFan | 9:30 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Thank you ReAL for shutting up ALL the sports commentators that didn't believe it could happen! Now give credit where credit is due! We came in as underdogs, even though we had the one goal advantage, we went down an aggregate goal, and we still one by TWO aggregate goals! Our season road record is no longer a stat that the commentators can dwell on! HECK YEAH!
Season tickets | 9:47 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Wish I would have been there... Great game, I was on the edge of my couch throughout the whole game! Outstanding performances from everybody.

Who do you think we have a better chance with next? Chicago or New England?
Anonymous | 9:55 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
YYYEEESSS!!! That was the most stressful 90 minutes of soccer I've watched, but what a reward! Thanks for never saying die RSL, I hope you've proved to yourselves you can win on the road, in the toughest environment against a class team. Keep it up, only two more to go!!! Glory Real!!!
nerves | 9:57 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Way too early to say we are in the finals. We will have to play in Chicago or on the dismal handball turf of New England first. I was amazed at the comeback, these guys have really pulled it together over the last 6 or 8 games. Andy has made a huge difference in this team and I think we finally found our starter/sub rotation.
I hate to nitpick, Rimando is so good on reaction saves that he still helped pull the game out for us, but when he has to make a save that requires stretching for the ball there just isn't enough of him. I wonder if a bigger keeper makes it to both of those goals. I hope we start to finally work Seitz in a little more next year. I don't know, it is hard to say, Rimando gets us through somehow.
Good to see Morales get something going and getting the team going late in the first half. Olave destroyed Moreno, and let Schelotto know he was there also. Hope we get Beltran back.
Uiku | 10:00 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Everyone counted us out and they were ALMOST right. There is no better time than now to step it up on the road. Bring home the cup RSL Utah needs something to brag about as far as pro sports go.
todd from santa ana | 10:03 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Watching the way this team is bonding, everyone appears has a great attitude, let us pull together and all do this....

I would still rather play Chicago over New England but afraid of neither. Just smother Blanco and Mcbride do not give them breathing space, Olaye can smother Brian take away those headers. Look I am ready for next week!!!!!

Give it up for KREIS

ALL OF YOU CMON.....
I don't get James | 10:06 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
ReAL SALT LAKE which is ranked #8 just beat #1 and defending champions Columbus Crew and this doesn't get even a greater play? THIS IS HUGE!

Now on to beat New England!
Why not RSL? | 10:10 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
This is great. Thanks for a good game with heart. I have been a doubter this season. Two more games and then Kyle Beckerman will have a huge trophy to lug around and the scent of league champ to not wash out of his hair. The next two weeks are going to be exciting.

Back to a conference final boys, now lets get to the big show!
Ole,Ole,Ole,Ole, Real Salt Lake | 10:16 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Great game. This is why I love soccer above all other sports. How often in basketball do you see a #8 team take down the #1. Almost never. My only problem with the game was the Crew's Forward Moreno. I have seen him play a lot over the years and he epitomizes soccer's weakest point, the flop. So many of my friends criticize soccer because soccer players flop and Moreno is the worst of them. Good job to the ref for giving him a yellow card, there should be more of those.

Chadders:

Everyone except Russell. His play almost lost us the game more than once. Thankfully others stepped up and made up for his major lack.
georg | 10:18 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Very possibly the best soccer match I have ever seen. RSL goes down 2 goals and responds with 3 goals to secure a trip to the Eastern Conference Final. Great effort by the entire RSL team, but special hats off to Kyle Beckerman, and Javier Morales, they were the key in keeping RSL aggresive in offence and controled on D.
After a win next week against New England or Chicago we will see you in Seattle.

DavyCrocket2003 | 10:32 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Wow! That was awesome! That win felt so good! The team really deserved it. The stood strong and kept believing even down 2-0. I was so impressed with the way that they never let down for a minute. After playing as hard as they did, and getting scored on twice, I would have probably given up. I think this team finally believes. Did you guys see the way Nick was getting into it? He was really pumped up. I was also proud of the way Movsisian played. He's leaving RSL but he's going to give it all to the end. He looked really good tonight. Everyone did! Go RSL! As much as I love seeing the scrappy New England team keep winning, their unlikely run will come to an end next Saturday.

P.S. Thanks Deseret News for the awesome coverage. Other newspapers tend to marginalize or forget completely about RSL. Thanks for always covering them well.

Thanks for watching the match!!!
Offer is still on the table for next week.
KC | 10:52 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Wow! Absolutely incredible. Nice work, RSL.

(Now, can we drop the Kreis bashing?)
J Crunch | 10:58 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
I agree with above comments... Russell was pretty poor tonight. We need Beltran back for next week. I think Moreno's flopping and diving throughout the game cost him. That very well could have been a PK when he went down in the box, but he'd been diving all night, so the official didn't go for it. We were also fortunate a couple of handballs that could have been called weren't. Finally a little good fortune went our way.

I was a little nervous when we went down 2-0, but the boys played with a lot of heart! I mentioned on another article before the game that I was feelin' good vibes. Great game! Bring on the next opponent!
A night of firsts? | 11:00 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Has Real ever scored 3 goals in a road game in MLS play?

Has Real ever overcome a 2 goal deficit on the road and come back to win?

Quite a few MLS analysts were picking Real as the top team in the West at the beginning of the season after they returned their starting lineup from the year before. Maybe they are finally playing to their potential.

Real had some luck on their side as well. Toledo could have awarded Columbus 2 PKs in the second half but didn't and even went the other way and gave a yellow for diving instead. There was no doubt that Hejduk's take-down of Espindola at the end of the first half was a penalty, but was still suprised that Toledo awarded it.

Hejduk was directly responsible for at least 2 goals in this series. A bit of poetic justice for all the time he wasted in the game here.

Bring on Chicago or New England, Real has the momentum and confidence now to make it to Seattle and win it all!
Doubter No More | 11:06 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
This is motivation to never doubt and never give up on our boys again! They showed us tonight they they wouldn't give up either! Well played and well won! All the way to the cup!!!
Arsenal44 | 11:08 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
What a game! unreal, from the low of lows to high of highs. The most pivotal moment of the game was kyles amazing vision to find javis great run. Turned everything around. We were the better team tonight. I know this might sound weird but I thought the ref did a decent job, calling moranos flop was gutsy but right. GO RSL!!!!
Anonymous | 11:09 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Incredible game! Fun to watch with everyone at the 'watch party'. You could see it in Javi eyes after that 2nd goal by the Crew, he wasn't going to loose this game. Rimando had some fantastic saves! Great game for the entire team. Way to go boys!
Hooray! | 11:11 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009

We had a company party, and it was amazing. It is awesome to sponsor such an awesome team. These are probably the best news out of Utah this week!

Incredible Game!

Soccer is the Beautiful Game!
todd from santa ana | 11:54 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Kudos to Beckerman-he played a TREMENDOUS match tonight, I love this kid's energy and charisma.
robertillo | 12:07 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009
congrats to jason and the team. what an incredible game! hopefully we're peaking at the perfect moment and finally playing with some consistency. this team definitely has the personnel to go all the way (although we showed today we lack depth on defense).

i like our chances against either team but would definitely rather play the revs!
todd from santa ana | 12:54 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009
to the haters: You are all pretty quiet. Too bad haha

By the way as they say in commercials, nothing brings people together as one "such as the beautiful game"

It is that.

I am still pumped up hours later. Now we all can sit back and watch New England who I feel we will play but it could go either way.

New England is the Buffalo Bills of MLS or Vikings

They are a dangerous beast. I said 2 months ago if they get in look out, give me Chicago
Rob | 2:02 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009

Nice job rsl. Im lovin these games on espn. Any chance we get to see any more games on espn?
Fedor | 2:34 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009
Yes, this Fedor still is biggest RSL supporter. Never more than now. Tonight at game the heart swell with the pride of 1000 wild stallions. I will admit for the first time a little doubt creep in but when i realized that we are still RSL and this is still our year something change!! When the # 3 goal hit the back of the net you could hear the pin drop here in Columbus. Although we were down, i still consider this a convincing win. Thank you to Columbus faithful who welcomed RSL fans with open arm. As I said many time before....it absolutely is year of the mighty RSL!!! Come on now residents of the vibrant valley, unite in love and support for this our greatest team!!! Jason Kries, you are hero. We don't need Beckham, we have Beckerman. Is there any doubt that we will meet in Seattle and together crown this team MLS champion? I will see you there with my shinguards, flag of Turkey, gatorade fruit drink and "We are the champions" blasting in ipod. It is our year!!!! gooooo gooooo gooooo RSL goooo goooo all the way!!!!!! See you at the EBO!!!
okay | 2:46 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009
So im a huge rsl fan and usmnt fan. had to put that in there so you wouldnt think im a hater.

The way major league soccer has the playoffs set up makes absolutely no sense. the fact that columbus won the regular season and still had no advantage is just stupid. MLS needs to stick with one format throughout the playoffs. why give a team homefield advantage in one round and not in the other. Also one more thing that bothers me is that they play the mls cup final on a set location predetermined before every season. If the home team doesnt make it to the cup final its likely the environment at the game will horrible. This is not the nfl fans are not going to travel with their teams.
Okay | 7:44 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009
Okay, you are simply wrong on all accounts.
Cam | 7:54 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009
I was wary after giving up 2 quick goals...during the regular season we would've folded. however, we dug deep and stayed confident and battled back to win. Amazing. We may struggle during the regular season, but we seem to find a way to win in the playoffs! GO RSL!
