All this state and others would need to do is charge a sin-tax on soda pop & french fries and charge a licensing fee for door-to-door solicitation and we would have all sorts of money to spend.

Just postpone expensive projects and let attrition take care of the bloated ranks of the government employees and you won't have to tax some poor working fool for every breath he takes.

Make all religious organizations start paying their fair share of taxes.

In addition to taxing churches non-true-humanitarian work (proselytizing and church growth activities don't count and no more funneling money through church owned businesses, in fact ban the practice of church owned businesses) let's institute a head tax. Those who have the most kids share their proportional share of the responsibility.

It is very not likely that the churches and religions would give up their tax free operations.

However, there is a better way to accomplish the same purpose.

Stop taxing all businesses for their income. Tax business only for the municipal services the actually use or potentially use, through the property tax.

Provide that government operations for defense and the general welfare be funded by a general income tax on all incomes regardless of source and without any exemptions or deductions.
