that makes my 2 son's accomplishments of state championships all the more awesome...go all athletes and go for it as now it becomes a mental preparation part on the coaches parts...go san juan , you are my pick to take it all. stay focused and go for it every play...don't get caught up in the external because it will be the internal that will do it! see you at state championship game!

2 Legacy Coaches in Utah | 9:00 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
1) Roger DuPaix (Skyline)

2) Chad Van Orden (Timpview)

Amazing consistency over 20+ years now.

Mr. Felt:

When talking about the Alta-Cottonwood game, you referred to Alta as the "The three-time defending 5A champion Hawks". According to my recollection (and the UHSAA website), Alta is the 2-time defending champions. They gotta win out to be the 3-time defending champions.
Add another legacy coach | 9:58 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
I think in talking Legacy Coaches in Utah, you need to add Bountiful Coach Larry Wall.
Only two | 10:09 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
"Observation" @ 9:27 is right. Bingham won the 5 A football title in 2006. Alta has taken the last two, not the last three.
Clueless | 1:20 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Chad Van Orden is not the coach at Timpview High School and hasn't been for years. Louis Wong has the built the dominant program that it is today!
To Clueless | 1:54 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
You could not be more wrong. Chad VanOrden went to Timpview in '90 and took state in '91 and was the head coach there until they took state in 2004. He is still the offensive coordinator there, and Timpview would not be the program it is if VanOrden hadn't built it.
Clueless is CLUELESS | 2:16 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Chad Van Orden IS the reason Timpview is where they are today. They won and were a premier program, prior to open enrollment.

Coach Wong has done a tremendous job but don't be a fool here. Van Orden is the man who built that program.

you don't know what you're talking about and it makes you look bad.

Yeah Millard, look at all those records you hold!
Wow Alex Hart | 3:08 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
That is amazing what you have done. You will be remembered for many years to come. Keep up the great work at the next level. You are amazing. I wish you were on out team. Go Hawks!!!

What did Millard do in 2009?
What did Millard do? | 3:57 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
They tied for a region title and finished with an 8-3 record. Not bad for a team that most thought would finish at the bottom of the region.
To What did Millard do? | 4:49 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Actually they were voted to finish second. The way they played against South Summit they might as well have finished at the bottom of the region.

Can anyone explain why Utah doesn't use Power Rankings to seed the playoffs? This predetermined stuff is for the PeeWee leagues.

Time to get with it Utah!
Question? | 7:38 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Mr. Felt where do you find all these stats, scores and streaks? Is there anyway for like myself or anyone else to have access to all these kind of stats? Please let me know I love your article each week.
to Charles | 10:41 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
State high school athletic associations use predetermined pairings based on a rotation. This prevents biases and also distributes travel burdens.

High school sports are extra-curricular activities. School districts and local schools work with finite resources.

5A and 4A schools have larger number of participants and enrollments which allow for larger travel budgets and activities budgets--while they also have the smallest amount of travel requirements as most of those schools are located geographically close to each other.

Smaller HS classifications are at a disadvantage as they have smaller enrollments and participants while at the same time, face enormous travel distances and costs.

Sadly, the UHSAA tends to force most state finals in either Davis, SL, or Utah counties. This just adds to the financial burden placed on smaller schools.
Re: to Charles | 7:00 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009
You must be from Southern Utah? What is this sadly crap about UHSAA forcing playoffs to large cities? You guys belly ache so much we go to Cedar and Richfield all the time. Every state I know heads to their largest cities to play state. The North schools are traveling South way too much.
Mr. Felt | 9:59 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009
I thought Hart threw for 8 td's in one game? I thought I heard that was a state record?

Re: to Charles | 7:00 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009 - The North schools are traveling South way too much.
Now who's belly aching? No, I'm not from southern Utah. The 2 A schools will travel a combined distance of over 1,000 miles just this week to play at SUU. The winners will have to go to Alta High School in Sandy for the championship.
What "north schools" are you saying travel south too much?
Many years | 11:53 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009
Alex Hart what you did was absolutely amazing. You will be remembered in the record books for many years to come. Don't let any negative talk get you down. You deserve all the respect from everyone. You proved yourself on the field where is really counts. Keep up the great work young man.
Go Hawks!
Re: to Charles 7:00 A.M. | 12:01 p.m. Nov. 6, 2009
Northern schools have no Idea what it is like to travel. I am from the south and are nearest region game is 1:15 minutes away. Farthest is 4:30 away. So dont be thinkin that you know what travel is like for the northern schools. You have NO IDEA!!!

"Re: to Charles 7:00 A.M. | 12:01 p.m. Nov. 6, 2009
You're right, because of the differences in geography and population density between the northern and southern parts of Utah, we have comparatively short distances to travel.
The exceptions of Bingham and Fremont going to Cedar City two years ago can be ignored because they rode tour buses rather than school buses.
The tour buses are much more comfortable.

"RE: Northern schools | 1:22 p.m. Nov. 6, 2009
Four of the five comments complaining about travel are from southern Utah residents and I proved your point. But complaining won't change your travel requirements. We don't have to know hat it's like.
It's not our fault and not our problem.
D-News | 4:23 p.m. Nov. 9, 2009
There needs to be an article on Just Alex Hart from Jordan High and what he has accomplished this year. He broke 5 or 6 records in 1 year. This is unheard of and the rest of the state needs to know what this kid did this year. If he isn't Mr Football after what he has done in only 12 games it would be a shame.
