What a great story! | 6:50 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Shaky is one of those young men who, regardless of what happens on the football field, is truly a class act and a tremendous role model. I'm not sure there are a whole lot of people who would be willing to accept this kind of responsibility at his age. Thank you for your example!

P.S. Moose from Idaho, please lay off your anti-Ute comments on this. I think that would be low, even for you.

Well deserved recognition. I hope he wins the award.

This story I believe exemplifies the sort of character traits the Utes are all about. A great program, great coach, great players, but more importantly the Ute's program is making responsible individuals who are and will help society for years to come. Go Utes!

Great man this guy is. Wonderful example of how to be a hero. Charles Barkley should be taking notes.

speaking of notes. I like the little brother come out from "meetmeinthemuss"

Muss, should change there slogan to "we are the little brother sooooo what?"

Now how has this kid been able to lead this type of life? And at the U no less!!!!!!!

I thought the only way a football player and a FB program was to survive was for the coach to put football 5th. on the list?

Recruiting just plain good kids is how it is done---you may get a bad one from time to time----but even that happens down SOUTH with all the KGB activity and "great use of time"!!!! LOL LOL

Keep it up Coach Whitt, and kudos to the young man. May he have a bright future!!!

Hey Missouri ute, why would you take such a great article about a great young man and turn it into a little brother rant? Can you not see why people think you are the little brother in all sports played against BYU? Wow the small smack talk from another ute fan. Make one wonder why a great kid like this would choose to come play for a bunch of knucklehead fans like you?

From what I understand and hear, Shaky's brother is doing really well at Highland. I think he is excelling in the classroom and on the football field. While others are doing the teenage thing late at night, Shaky and his brother hang out at home cooking up food, doing school work, and playing X box. The bird of the word that I heard was that young Smithson is a responsible student at Highland High school. So let me jump in on the bandwagon and root for the Utes and the Smithsons.

That is how you really take boys and turn them in men, plus win a couple BCS games as well!
re: Discovega | 6:46 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Yes, Shaky must have decided to come to the u after seeing the great example Whitt set attempting an onside kick against Wyo with his team up 40-0.

Actually I think Shaky would have acted in the same manner no matter which school he went to and utah and Whitt did not have any special role in this. Give the guy some credit for having his own integrity and intelligence instead of giving all glory and credit to Whitt and utah. Sheesh.

Nice going Shaky. Proud to have you on the squad!
