I think BYU fan has no problem with Bronco being optimistic. they do not expect him to be an in your face type of coach. But they do want to see more positive emotion. More clapping, more head slapping, more joy and positive displays of emotion on the sideline.
Big Plays | 10:10 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
...are part of the game. Turnovers are part of the game. Missed kicks and other errors are part of the game. To make comments about taking parts away are a little silly. Bronco made a silly comment after last year's Utah loss: "Take away the turnovers and this was a very different ball game." That doesn't make me feel better about my team's performance. That simply lends to irrational reasoning.
Hyperbole | 10:11 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Just a tad over-exaggerated in the description of the WYO QB. How about a more accurate description...for example, I think his ability to shift in the pocket and make plays with arm and feet is a little more like Andy Dalton.

I wish I felt better about The Cougar defense. We will see if they can "Execute" better. Fired Up coaches wouldn't hurt either though.

Prediction | 7:39 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
This game will be a lot like the UNLV game last year after the TCU beat down. BYU will win but they will win it in the last minute of the game. BYU's D is soft and week. They will not stop anyone for the rest of the sesaon. They will simple have to get the ball last to win. UW young QB will have his best game of the season. We all have to remember that the best thing BYU's D does is make the other teams QB look like a Heisman candidate.

BYU 41 Wyoming 38
It's not just | 7:40 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
the Wyoming QB that the y should be concerned with. It's any opposing QB that they have trouble with.
trueblue | 8:03 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
BYU could easily get beat this Saturday. Do I think they will ? NO. Did I think they were going to get slaughterd by FSU and TCU ? NO. MY questions for concern with BYU are the same concerns they have been for 30 plus years. Which team is going to show up ? BYU often plays like they don't realy care. It seems as though they are phocused on the eternal perspective and not college football Saturday. Certainly one is greater than the other but in the eyes of a lot of our opponents, It is not. I assure you that those kids in Wyoming will be fired up and ready to play come saturday. They want nothing more than to knock some RM on his butt ! Question is, How many RM's want to knock them on theirs ? Come on cougs "Play with Passion".
Realistfan | 8:18 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
I look forward to BYU football every year. Every year my hopes are dashed by reality. Though I want them to do well this weekend against Wyoming, I am concerned that the BYU defense will make the Wyoming offense look like world beaters. Mobile quarterback = embarrassing defensive performance. I hope the defense proves me wrong.
Coaches | 8:59 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
If the game comes down to our coaches needing to make ajustments to win I think we are in trouble. If we would just commit to running the football, I think we would be better off. The defense needs to rise up and get some pressure on the quarterback. Anything less than this team winning there next five games will be a major disapointment given the fact that we have a senior qb. At this point I wouln't mind seeing Riley Jensen in the game to help run the ball.
riley jensen?? | 10:20 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Its Riley Nelson...just FYI...and i am sick of you BYU fans dogging on the Y...you arent fans...just haters...go cheer for the utes! if you cant handle that BYU isnt going to go undefeated every single year...then leave!!! if you are upset that BYU only went undefeated 1 time in lavell's 20+ years but bronco has been here for 5 years and we havent gone undefeated...then you need to have your head screwed on tighter...thats just rediculous...get over yourself...10-2 or 2-10 I AM A COUGAR and i will ALWAYS cheer for my team!!! my home teacher put it best (he's a ute fan) he said..."you and byu are like a rose in an outhouse...it doesent matter how bad it stinks you can always smell the goodness"...YES I CAN BECAUSE I LOVE BYU!!! I SUPPORT MY TEAM!!! IF WE LOSE TO TCU BY 31 I WILL BE THERE THE NEXT GAME AND CHEER FOR MY TEAM INSTEAD OF SCRUTINIZING THEM!!! Grow up Cougar Fans...BYU4LIFE!!! LOYAL STRONG AND TRUE WEAR THE WHITE AND BLUE!!! or leave and wear the red and white

Carta-Samuels + BYU "defense" = exposed. Cowboys 31 Cougars 28.
Seer | 10:27 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
I'm going to go out on a limb here. BYU's defense will struggle. Shocker, right? I also think Wyoming's defense will struggle with BYU's offense. Max and co. will get just enough help from the Cougar D to win 38-24.
Anonymous | 10:35 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Logan is worried about any QB who has 2 arms attached to his body that can throw the ball further than 2 yards, they already have a clear advantage if they can do that agaisnt our amazing DB's.
big surprise | 10:41 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
is there any QB that doesn't concern BYU? I think not. kinda frustrating if you ask me
CBT | 10:42 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
I'd put the Wyom QB in the same category as the USU QB Borel. He is a guy who runs well, but is limited with his passing ability, so is a bit too one-dimensional. BYU shut down USU, and I think they shut down Wyo, too. It is QBs that can both run well and pass well that hurt BYU. Ponder(#14) could as could Dalton(#7). I want to point out that both those guys are top 14 in QB efficiency, too, so they are both really good. The Wyo QB is not in that class(#108 nationally) so BYU handles them this week for sure. The Pokes do not have the weapons that TCU and FSU had, and lets not pretend that they do. The BYU D has struggled in 2 losses, but both times, the opposing team had not just good QB play, but great QB play. No other team BYU plays this year comes close to tthose 2 guys, including Utah, where Cain was #39 and Wynn is not rated yet.
Samurai Jack | 10:46 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
BYU wins big.

WYO is overrated... (sounds almost like an oxymoron doesn't it?) Wyoming is not a good team. The Utes struggle against them was an anomaly.

They beat hapless UNLV by three points and the amazing Florida Atlantic BruteSquad by 2 points. They even beat the IAA Weber St. Wildcats by 7 points.

The Cowboys could EASILY lose their next four (BYU, SDSU, TCU, and Colorado St.) and close the season at 4-8.

The WYO record of 4-4 competes for the most fragile .500 record in the country.
BYU worried about offenses? | 10:56 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
It is about time they start worrying about their defense and how they could not defend Provo High. Start playing defense Jamie and the offense will take care of itself.
Take Heart | 11:10 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
People! Wyoming is going through it's first year with a new coaching staff, new system, new everything! We should be more than able to win this game handily. Max should have a fantastic game. I don't think the WYO D will give him any trouble unless he throws the ball right to them. Unga should have a great game also. Unless he gets injured he should put up some nice numbers.
Funny to me. | 11:21 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
In the last part of this article it talks about how Air Force's defense in 1st in the nation. Funny how they probably got that ranking right after playing the Utes pathetic offense. Ya you won, but holy cow!
soft 4-4??? | 11:35 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Wyoming also played Texas well for the first half. Lost to Air Force by 10 on their home field. Lost to Utah, but had a chance in the last drive to win on their home field. We may have be 4-4, but give us a little credit. We like nothing more than to beat BYU. You will be surprised.
more offense | 11:37 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
It may come as a shock, an albatross, or even a mystery why TCU and FSU dismantled the Cougars in a home environment where the Y rarely gets beat- nontheless ripped. However, Laramie imposes an interesting foe for the Coug's this week. The Cowboys controlled the game well into the 4th, their D is tough. Bend and not break is the strategy employed, they are well prepared although limited in Offensive production. It should be a low scoring game and the Pokes should be in it until the end- If Bronco fails to find the answers to Wyomings defense, more questions may arise in this column following the potential upset this weekend.
Coguarf@n | 12:17 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Wyoming may not be a giant killer, but they're definitely showing sufficient signs of life that BYU will need to take them seriously or BYU could get beat, especially with the game in Laramie.

With BYU's defense making even mediocre QB's look very good, BYU's offense needs to play well. But Wyoming's D isn't that great. Texas sleep walked through the first half (probably a hang over from their night at the truck stop) and Utah's Offense is inconsistent on a good day.

I'm really not worried about the game because I think BYU will be focused and ready to go, but it's no gimme like UNLV or UNM.
re:re: riley jensen?? | 12:28 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Hey buddy sounds like you need to take your own advice and do some growing up. I'm a big Cougar fan too and have been for decades but every fan is entitled to their own opinion and game analysis and no one (such as yourself) has any right to tell everyone else how to run their lives, what to think about their team, and whether we should cheer or question what we're seeing.

If Bronco had been saying along that the team is in terrible shape, we have no talent whatsoever, and we'll be lucky to win 6 games each year then I'm sure everyone would be ecstatic with 10-11 wins per year. But he hasn't been saying those things, has he? Instead he's been saying "quest for perfection", "making changes to get us to the next level", and our "goal is to win the MWC every year and also get another national championship".

So he's brought this on himself and then he calls the fans uneducated and now is shifting blame for blowout losses to his players (27 easily correctable assignment errors; players not fast enough).

I think it's time Bronco re-installed his 3-3-5. Our defense is just plain pathetic.

No way can BYU lose this game. People forget that BYU has Coach Bornco and quarterback Maxine Hall at the helm. Also, BYU is living righteously off the field.

Moose on the Loose | 2:23 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
BYU could quite possibly not only get beat in this game, but could get beat down! I'm predicting a 35 to 24 win for Wyoming!

Go Cowboys!
Just because the | 2:31 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
uties struggled to contain the wyoming qb doesn't mean the Cougars will. Wyoming's qb is good, but they have no running game, no receivers to stretch the field, their defense is ok (see utie freshman qb exploiting them at will), so I think the only advantage the cowboys have is home field. Cougars in a comfortable win, 38-14.
BYU wins | 2:32 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
But it wil be a tough game. I think BYU will have to fight for their points, and that it's the Wyoming's D that is the actual stregnth of their team. Yes Wyoming has a mobile QB, but so did Utah St., Colorado St., San Diego St., and UNLV. With no supporting cast BYU can contain Carta-Samuels. SDSU had tall, athletic receivers. Wyoming doesn't.

My take on Wyoming is that they are not athletic the way SDSU is, and they are tougher on defense than Colorado St. I think BYU fights hard and wins 35-21.

Also we have Mckay Jacobsen back to stretch the defense, that could play a big factor.
And Mr. Bass... | 2:45 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
you left out the fact that today on 1280 The Zone(everyone is talking about it) Bronkie told the nation that "he feels his use of practice time", etc. by he and his staff is "better than any school/team in the nation"!

Now ain't that arevelation":?!
"Stalwart" | 2:51 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Sat. will be fun. Frustrating maybe, but fun. I'm not ready to write off football season just yet. I'm still thinking this game will be a trend setter for how the rest of the season goes. RE: My dear friend Ernest. At least the majority of BYU's players try to be "righteous" or decent off of the field. Many universities football teams have very poor reputations off of the field, which have been well earned. Some go out of their way to be total jerks.
NL | 3:32 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
BYU should win but any QB that is fairly accurate playing against the Y would mean a 50/50 chance to win. The game will be interesting to see how BYU responds. I figure they will drop one more game. They are just not that good. I am a BYU fan but I think realistic. A 3 or 4 loss season I think will be BYU future. All depends who they book outside the region.
Pedro | 4:08 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Does any college football team pressure the QB less than BYU? For any stat people with nothing better to do, it would be interesting to see how many opposing QB's had their best game of the season or best game of their career against BYU. I am inclined to believe that BYU would set an NCAA record regarding this stat. Why doesn't this bother the BYU coaches? Why do the BYU coaches stick to the bogus "bend, don't break" defensive strategy? Why doesn't Holmoe demand accoutability from Bronco? Is it really that hard to come up with a scheme to pressure the QB? Will Jorgenson ever get another sack? Too many questions, yet never any answers from the coaches. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, FIRE ANAE.
Hey Pedro | 4:36 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Your post made me chuckle - thanks. But your points were all about the defense (which is probably accurate) and yet you end with your FIRE ANAE salvo. You do know Anae coaches the offense right? An offense that is in the top 20 in almost every category. Our defense has ALWAYS made opposing QBs look great and our dbs tend to play a good 15 yards off receivers. Jorgenson hasn't come close to his sophomore season and yet you want to FIRE ANAE?
West Jordan Blue | 4:47 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
I agree with someone early saying he is like the USU Qb. BYU handled Borel pretty well and i expect to do the same. I would probably say the score will be pretty similar as the USU game or maybe a field goal better for wyoming, 35 to 20 and it might be a clean game for BYU. Please give the ball to the UGNA and the running backs. (nothing agaisnt hall)
Pokes will win | 5:23 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Maxine and the cougs will suffer another loss and then it will all fall apart.
The truth | 5:26 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Hate to tell you Max, but this season is really over. No BCS bowl, no conference championship, and another loss to the Pac 10 in vegas is apparent. I hope the hoopsters have a better season.
Uncle Rico | 7:53 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
The offense stunk it up against TCU and Florida State. I agree, Fire Anae!
To The Truth | 8:03 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Very accurate and well said. But, you are obviously a Ute troll and the one thing that WILL redeem this season is BYU's win over Utah, AFTER they get crushed by TCU (the pride of the MWC and BCS Champions for 2009). Yeah Boy!
trueblue | 8:44 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Let's get real people. If BYU comes out fired up and playing to their potential, This will not even be a contest. BYU will beat these guys by four touchdowns. BYU has looked realy bad in two games, the other games they have had they have played at half speed and one easily (except for OU). The problem is that we want more. We want our cougars to beat any team in the country on a regular basis and that is right now, not realistic. I don't know what they should do to get better, I am not a football coach. I do know they have a game on saturday and right now, that is the most important game of the season. I hope our cougars bounce back from the TCU loss and play their best game of the season. PS: you haters make me want to puke, grow up and get a life. I would love to see you across the line from Manase Tonga and Harvey Unga trying to tackle them. They wouldn't even slow down when they run right over you !
WYOming D  | 8:49 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
has hopefully prepared for Max Hall. I hope they all have been issued the stick'um gloves so that when Max throws them a pass out of the clear blue the gloves will help them hold on through the shock of actually becoming a Max Hall receiver. Yes sir you might have been recruited to play "D" for WYO but Max Hall drafts everyone to be a BYU receiver! He shares the ball and spreads the love around the MWC.
