Utah Jazz: Down but upbeat about effort

The preseason raised expectations. So far the Jazz have lost in the final quarter to both DEN and DAL on the road. The Jazz had good effort for 3 quarters and then folded. But they almost always lose to good teams on the road.

They prevailed against the Clips and got kicked by HOU. They are not playing well and Boozer and Millsap are primary reasons. The rest of the team is doing pretty well.

Sloan and his rotations and combinations are a major problem. Okur and Boozer should not be on the floor together. Sloan favors Boozer and plays him when he is not playing well. Boozer needs to sit until he plays well (I am not a Boozer hater, I want to win). Boozer should not close until he plays well (same goes for all of the rest of the players).

If there are not changes that produce results then Sloan has to go. We have put up with to much. He lost the DAL game. The team was totally unprepared for the HOU game. He should have adjusted to Lawson in the DEN game.

Sloan does not adjust.

He plays combinations that can't defend.

One thing I would like to point out is that at least the jazz were in the Games against Dallas and Denver on the road. Every team makes adjustments during the game, yes even Jerry Sloan. But, it's pretty hard to adjust to a 29 point outburst by Dirk Nowitski who couldn't miss. Maybe they should of knocked him on his rear end, but then again he did go 14 fo 14 from the free throw line. So, it's not like they weren't putting a body on him. It was devistating to see them lose like that, but saying that the Jazz Fans have put up with too much is ludacris. If you think jazz fans have put up with too much, go become a Clipper Fan, or a Charlotte Bobcat fan or a New York Knicks Fan. In the 22 years that Coach Sloan has coached the Jazz they have only missed the Playoffs 3 times. All were years of which they did not have Stockton or Malone. Only one of those seasons was a losing season.

Chris Paul and NO showed how to beat Dallas. Dirk 12 point and fould out. Get physical play like Harpring may be just kind of.
If coach cannot adjust game plan doesn't really matter what kind of player in roster. Sloan may be stubborn just don't be stupid to play Boozer. Every time he steps in ruins everything and looses momentum.

Disappointed. Ihese games show us who the Jazz are.
todd from santa ana | 1:30 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009

"we competed"

Hilarious but boring and tired remarks by your "boy"
This guy man o man....

I thought you were supposed to "compete"

BY the way Dirk tonight went 4-15 and 0-1 on 3s

Funny, New Orleans knew how to slow them down

Then again it helps they have a true center acquired in the off season

Go Jazz
Re:GregH | 7:10 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
How are you related to sloan. He is a has been who has ridden his talent for his whole career. He needs to have some honor and step down.
Doc Jonsin | 7:14 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Sloan has to go!
Cowboy Joe New trade | 7:36 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
I still think KOC should be fired for picking DWILL ahead of CP3. CP3 beat Dallas last night. And CP3 has less talent around him than DWILL. I say trade DWILL BOOZER AND BREWER for CP3, Okafor, and a second round pick.

Wise Counsel | 7:58 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
A wise man once told me about the impact of effort without results...well you can figure out the rest. I hope that there are good players for the Jazz in the lottery this year!
tmoney | 8:08 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
The team is too slow we cant guard the parimeter at all. People just go right around our wing players it's amazing really. A lot of teams have improved and the Jazz did not. This could be a lottery year.
Deron playing well | 8:14 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Deron came to play this season. Sloan is playing him more minutes even though the outcomes are not what we like so far.

Fes and Koufos although mentioned here are able to play at a consistent NBA level. Sloan must see something in them as they have both been extended. Faster movement and consistently better choices will elevate each of their games to the profesional level.

Ronnie and AK are shooting better this season and that will eventually help us. Boozer is still very much athletic and has been taking baby steps to playing defense and help defense, which may have upset his offensive rythmn but my bet is he comes back with a vengance and again becomes the scoring machine we count on.

Paul Millsap has proven thus far he is still an energetic banch player and the Jazz are fortunate to have someone of his size and ability to backup Boozer or AK.

When CJ and Korver come back that will bulk up our ranks of available players and we may not lose so much steam in the 4th quarters.

Get after it Jerry you have a tough job to do.

D Will | 8:31 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
is not a top six pg! He is not a go to guy down the stretch. He is the best player on the Utah Jazz and he is pretty darn good. But he is not a franchise player. If he were your second best player you would be pretty darn good. D Will is not an all star. He is pretty close but he is not even in Chris Pauls dust!

Wake UP!
What kind of a man... | 8:35 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
...wont call a time out when man is in the middle of a 25-0 run on you. Where is the coach? Let Phil or Tyrone or Scott do it if Jerry does not want to.
If you can't stop a man..... | 8:41 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Put two guys on him. If that deos not work, put Salin, Churchhill & FDR on him!
Sloan 2 Go | 8:42 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
When are Jazz fans going to quit living in dreamland hoping that Sloan will bring home a title? He is one of, if not the most, over ranked coaches in the league. I know there will be some purists that will attempt to argue against me but I have one stat that says it all... 0 rings. Once again, 0 rings! He won't let his players play, he won't unleash talent, and you can't even count on him for a motivating technical foul anymore. He should respect the franchise he has been with for 20+ years and step down. If he's too stupid, Miller needs to buck-up and let him go...
What kind of a man...... | 8:43 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
won't put a 300 lb 7 fotter in the game when they are being destroyed in the painted area???
Re:Re GregH | 8:45 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Jerry Sloan has ridden his talent for his whole career, are you kidding me I think your refering to Phil Jackson. Coach Sloan has always won despite his lack of talent (except for that the one season in 20 years, boy I would love those odds in Vegas) He has always found a way to win with to many role players, soooo many Jazz fans are writting off the season and its only been 4 games, most of you must be BYU fans thats the mentality that you have we cant be perfect so bag on the team on Sunday......
The Jazz really dont have a bench but they have good players not starting, but its hard to win when you dont have anything consistant off the bench right now (yep those two injured would help greatly. The JAZZ will do just fine and get better as they go, they will get it worked out and start to win then everyone will stop complaining and all be be happ in JazzLand, oh by the way every team loses games I never seen a team win all 82.......

GO JAZZ, I'm looking forward to the game tonight
JJ | 9:08 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Sloan needs to stop worrying about how the Jazz match up against other teams and get his players ready and make the other teams worry about matching up with the Jazz. Don't worry about putting the highest paid players on the floor, put the ones that want to play out there. Sloan, the word for the day is, adjustment.
Later | 9:11 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Come on Jerry, Boozer is not the guy. Lets play some of those other guys. Give us Milsap. Hes got the desire, the energy and the body. Give us Matthews..and Price more. Mix it up. When its working don't change it let it go. Rotate players not groups of guys.Don't give the momemtum away.
Bill | 9:14 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
To the writer who wondered "What kind of man won't call a time out when man is in the middle of a 25-0 run on you - I listened to David Locke on 1320 KFAN respond to a caller with the same complaint. Locke detailed every play leading up to and following the time out that was called. It was found that Jerry only waited ONE play too long (debatable) before he called a time out. Objective details bear out the fact that time out calling wasn't the problem, stopping a red hot player was.
What kid of a man..... | 9:25 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
.......won't trade a man that does not want to live in Salt Lake???
What kind of a man..... | 9:27 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
......won't make any offseason moves to improve a team that was an 8 seed last year???
Miles | 9:30 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
The defense starts out front. Dwill, Brewer and AK are not getting it done. You can blame Boozer and Memo but the guards have to keep their man in front of them. Did you see Raja Bell allowing penetration when he was here?

Now maybe Jerry tells the guards to get up on their man and that is why they get beat. It's not like AK is known for his quickness. I think Jerry is a lot of the reason our defense is bad. His philosophies are bad.

Everyone wanted Millsap and Boozer on the floor at the same time. How's that working out? I think it would work out better if they were both on the bench and AK slides down to the 4. Too bad CJ and Korver are out so Jerry could do that.
AK | 9:30 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
It's hindsight now, but I would love to know why they didn't try to Kirilenko on Dirk. Dirk was getting around Okur. Boozer cant guard him (or a cheesesteak for that matter) But I would have liked to see AK use his length and speed to keep close and in front of Dirk. I would rather have a poor defender on the likes of Marion than Dirk...
Miles | 9:33 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
New Orleans was playing Dallas on a back-to-back after Dallas just played the very physical Jazz the night before. You can't compare the two games. Dirk was beat from all the minutes the night before and how hard he worked in the 4th quarter. I am sure he was a step slower last night.
Jerry, Please | 9:37 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Jerry, please do the honorable and honest thing and walk away. You are just stealing money from the fans and the Miller family.

I am only one person, but I will no longer pay money to watch a jerry sloan coached team.

Please, please retire.

Deron? Our New Leader? | 9:45 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Deron ran the offense LIKE GARBAGE for the final 6 minutes of the game.

The team managed JUST 4 FIELD GOALS in the final 6 minutes.

Who runs our offense again?

DERON NEVER SCORED BUT..... HE DID JACK UP SEVERAL 3 POINT ATTEMPTS WITH 7 PLUS SECONDS LEFT ON THE SHOT CLOCK AFTER FAILING TO GET THE TEAM INTO THEIR OFFENSIVE SETS TO RUN A PLAY!!

Boozer the loozer is the only player that scored a FG during the 36-9 run to end the game.

I saw NOTHING BUT PANIC FROM DERON WILLIAM IN THE CRUNCH. He did absolutely nothing to help his team stem the onslaught and he did several things to ACCENTUATE the problem with his HORRIBLE shot selection.

Yes the future looks bright doesn't it?
RE: Sloan 2 Go. | 9:54 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
The jazz will pull through, Deron Williams is a phenominal ball player. And.... mr. Sloan 2 Go, if you haven't noticed Larry H. Miller is dead! He can't fire Sloan when he is dead.
Playoffs? We all know... | 9:54 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
We all know how close the playoff seeds and matchups get at seasons end. Just one game can make the difference between starting the playoffs at home vs. the road.

IF....and that is a BIG IF we do get to the playoffs we have already blown 3 winnable games.

We were in a position going into the 4th quarter in EVERY LOSS so far to win the games.

The the mental might midget players we have collapsed like a bunch of ROOKIES.

Players either have "IT" or they don't and I think we are learning alot about what several of these players DO NOT HAVE.

I don't expect them to win all their games but after this many years of CONTINUITY, CONSISTENCY, AND EXPERIENCE I am struggling to understand how this type of performance is acceptable to our veteran starters.

This is Derons 5th year in the league. Boozer, Okur, and AK have all been in the league long enough now that they SHOULD NEVER BLOW a 16 point lead in less than 8 minutes.

These players acted like they had never seen an opposing team star player try to beat them.

They looked STUNNED!!

SHAME!!
Sloan Haters | 10:08 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Hey all you sloan haters. The problem is not the coach. The problem is the players. If the player won't put forth the effort to be a winning team, then the Jazz brass need to ship them out and get some players who are in it to win. All of the consistantly top tier teams seem to be able to aquire the players they need to be a winning program. What is the problem with the Jazz brass?
Success and/or failure in ANY business, ALWAYS starts at the TOP.
Fans................. | 10:17 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
if you are at the game tonight, turn your backs on the court every time boozer is playing. as fans we need to send a message to management that we will not tolerate that over paid lazy sack of .... in utah anymore. and how awesome would that look on tnt? lets get boozer out of here, his selfishness is killing out team. GET RID OF LOOZER!
Spurs #1 | 10:26 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Hey pathetic Jazz your triple Texas team nightmare is not over yet. SPURS in a 30 point blowout 105-72 GO SPURS!!!
J dawg | 10:29 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Boozer has and will continue to ruin the Jazz. Get rid of him already!
CP3 No.1 | 11:11 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Face it now, since some wouldn't last year - we blew it when we passed on Chris Paul and took D-Will instead. Last night Paul scores 39 points over the Mavs. D-will is slow, pouty, has hard time finishing, and like others mentioned, wouldn't run the offense in the 4th qtr against the Mavs. Paul has NO tatoos or piercings, and is a great kid who came from a Jesuit college. We would absolutely be in love with Paul if he were a Jazzman.
by the way | 11:14 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
anyone notice how the "scrubs" everyone loves to bad mouth, took the mighty lakers to OT and gave them all they could handle last night? Maybe we are not all as smart as we seem to believe we are.
Re:Spurs#1 | 11:21 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
i dont think you will blow us out, in fact im saying the jazz begin their turn around tonight with a victory against the frog and company.
Your dead Uncle | 11:33 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Said he has more of a pulse than the Jazz
Trade Time | 11:34 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
I don't want to jump on the bandwagon, but things have got to change. I love AK but trade him to Golden State for a disgruntled Jackson (Plays with Heart) and Ronny Turiaf(Defense) package. Let the Booz father wrap things up here this year and then let him go. Rumor is Donny Nelson loves AK and his expiring (next year) contract might help too.

What Do you guys think? What verteren guy would be willing to come here?
Sokol | 11:35 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
You want the fans to cheer than send Sloan out the door packing, taking KOC, Boozer, Kirilenko and this sorry bunch of pansies with him.
Fishenko | 11:52 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
I`m on the big Fes`s bandwagon,in fact I`m driving it,he is the future of this franchise along with D-will,Price,Brewer,Millsap,Koufos,the rest AK,Boozer,Memo,Miles and AK can hang around but this team is about the youngsters, lets start getting them involved now
Cowboy Joe where are all | 11:52 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
the DWILL backers now. I am not saying he is not a good guard, and a great pick. Probably the second or third best pick in that draft. CP3 is head and shoulders above DWILL and Bynum may surpase DWill because his size.

Slown also needs to go. He lost his team last year when he reinserted Boozer into the starting lineup. He has lost it, but poor Greg and KOC are too blind to see it.

Fishenko | 12:03 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
add Matthews to that list of keepers,he`s already shown me more than our so called wing-players have, like miles
Miles | 12:13 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
I CJ is more important to this team than even I realized. Last year at the end of the season, he gets hurt and the team falls apart down the stretch. In pre-season this year he is hurt, and the Jazz are falling apart without him. When Boozer is hurt, we still won games. When AK was hurt, we still won games. When Dwill was hurt we started better than this.

Just watch, when CJ comes back, we start winning again. Open your eyes and you can tell this team goes as CJ goes.
Re Miles | 12:16 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Brilliant, dirk outside with the ball and you want a guard on him??? clueless
Williams is OVERRATED!!! | 12:30 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Deron Williams is not a franchise player. He is not that good. He is not a top 5 PG!
1. Chris Paul
2. Steve Nash
3. Tony Parker
4. Chauncey Billups
5. Rajon Rondo
6. Derrick Rose
7. Devin Harris
8. Aaron Brooks
9. Ty Lawson (he is better than Williams!)
10. Andre Miller
11. Deron Williams
Sloan 2 Go | 12:45 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
To the person who replied to my earlier post, I was referring to Greg "Miller" Larry Miller's son who now runs the Jazz. How can you be a Jazz fan and not know that the "Miller" I was referring to is Larry's son? Get off your keys if you don't know your facts...

Jazz point guard Deron Williams, shown here during Tuesday's tough loss at Dallas, says his team needs to figure out how to play 48 minutes of basketball if they are to turn their fortunes around. Finishing the game has been a challenge for the Jazz, who gave up a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter of Tuesday night's game.
