Coach Whitt is a class act | 8:36 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Anyone who follows sports will tell you that a team takes on the personality of their coach. Notice how this year the team has quietly gone about a 7-1 season thus far. Even last year's undefeated team didn't do much as far as drawing attention to themselves. They just went about winning their games.

By the way, is it possible that I actually got a comment in on the Utes before that Boise "Moose" guy gets in and trashes anything related to the Utes? DNews editors, why do you keep allowing that guy in? I swear you allow his 4 to 5 comments in everyday, yet censor other comments, like mine.

Coach Whitt is a class act. Grounded, dedicated, extraordinarily competent, decent.

to have coach K at the U.

Remember, coach K was TDS's first choice....?

I listened in on the BYU coaches show tonight and when Bronco was asked if he thought he defense was faster this year his reply was.......

"no, I actually feel that this years team speed closely resembles that of the speed we've had for the last four seasons."

Suddenly I feel very confident about that game in mid November.

Love Coach Whit! Love the U!

I love Coach Whitts INTENSITY!!!! He was an absolute terror when he played @ the Y. He has brought that to the UTES big time. GO UTES!!!

same defense, same QB...the only suspension is how many completions Maxi will throw to Utah defense.

He doesn't talk about winning national championships like Coach Brocno.
Coach Brocno has higher goals.

By the sounds of your comments concerning Moose, it sounds like you have an infuriority complex!!!

Did you get up too early in the morning?

I am so proud of the Utes this year and how they have handled their rebuilding year.....

What a class act coach Whit has instilled in the players both on and off the field.

GO UTES!!!!!!!!!!!!

48-24
2 BCS trips to 0

Inferiority? More like Superiority Complex based on the actual facts.
Re: Ernest T. Bass | 7:31 a.m.  | 8:29 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
That's funny. Coach Whittingham certainly is grounded in reality. The goals and objectives his team sets every year are a testament to that fact. We are very fortunate to have Kyle, in fact, the MWC is fortunate have him. Our program and the conference will continue to grow under his leadership.

To: Some things never change | 3:46 a.m. if you read the article you will find that it references BYU. You know, there are disorders that explain your continual counting of articles on these boards. You are right in one respect, some things never do change. I think I would be a little more discrete if I were you.
RE: Coach Whitt 8:36 p.m. | 8:54 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
The Utes are doing GREAT!!!!!!

I love Coach Whitt and what he has done for Utah

As for your negative comments towards MOOSE'S thoughts and prediction....there is such a principle in the constitution known as Freedom of Speach.

As a Staunch supporter of the Utes, I just laugh at his comments and I certainly don't take offense.

So maybe YOU would be better off just reading the articles and NOT the comments if it hurts your ego so much!!!
Some things never change | 9:10 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Then better start acting the 'superior' part. I completely agree that Utah has had a more impressive last five years. That's why it's even more intriguing to me that Ute fans act the inferior part. Coming off a BCS year and yet they still talk about the Cougars. What does that say for your program?
Rivals | 9:51 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
I am pretty sure that most utes fans are somewhat interested in the outcome of a byu game, same goes for byu fans being interested in a utes game. its a rivalry pretty much you want your rival to loose. So all it says about our program is that we dont like you guys
Mr Burns | 10:05 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Trash talking about your rival is like a duck to water. No matter what the Utes or the Y does there will always be smack running on both sides. You don't think that the people in Boston or in Ohio, or in Michigan, etc will ever not run smack about their rivals? We are hardwired as human beings to be that way. For good or bad.

Anyway, U fans, we are the luckiest fans in the college football world. I hope we get to keep Coach Whit for a lot more years. I love to see Y fans covet what they will likely never be able to do or have. They spawned the BCS in 1984 and can't even crash their party. The Y can claim a national championship and the U can't, but I'll take what we got last year as there wasn't a lot of vitriol and outrage like there was surrounding that BYU 1984 team. We got the love, you got the shove.

Sad
Re: Some things never change | 10:30 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Dream on zoobie. You cewgs are always making comments on Ute fans and their comments. Read this loud and clear. There is not a true UTE fan on the planet who thinks that Ute football is inferior to the cewgs, You YBU trolls just make rediculous comments to make yourselves feel better. Talk about feeling inferior. Why don't you write something about the gloious 1984 season.

Go UTES!!!!!!
RE: Some things never change | 10:31 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
It's called a rivalry. Perhaps you've heard the term?

Even when your own team is winning, it's part of the fun to bash your rival.

However, when your team is losing horrifically, like the Cougars, it's natural to slink away from rivalry smack.

For Texas fans, part of the fun is bashing OU. If your logic were applied, Texas fans have an "inferiority complex."

Perhaps you should take a page out of Whitt's book - stop whining and start winning.

Picky guy | 10:54 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Actually, the 2007 loss at BYU preceeded the 20/21 run. The Utes are 27/29 since the loss at Las Vegas.
Once again | 11:00 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Coach Whitt shows why he is the "class" of the conference. When he has won he doesn't humiliate the hardworking kids on the other side of the ball by running up the score. He has taught his players that you need to finish it, but when you have, remember the heart and soul on the other side of the ball. A true sportsman and leader of young men. Keep going Coach.. the nation is watching and still talking. GO UTES!!!

--------------
It says we can talk and chew at the same time. I can love my Utes and despise everything BYU stands for.

If Utah has an inferiority complex then what would you call fans celebrating at Provo Airport for a 1-0 team?

Its funny growing up in the 80s our season was defined by playing BYU. Now, a season is considered a disappointment if end up in Vegas while Vegas is defined as success at BYU (for proof see 2006-2008 BYU seasons).

seriously BYU people | 11:41 a.m. Nov. 5, 2009
We are rivals, we talk smack. Utah could win the next 3 BCS titles while BYU was going winless, and we would still talk smack. I guess in that scenario, BYU folks would still claim we had an inferiority complex.
Re:Ernest T. Bass | 7:31 a.m | 12:09 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
...He doesn't talk about winning national championships like Coach Brocno.
Coach Brocno has higher goals....

BYU fans should be proud that Bronco has higher goals...After all, this is America, everyone can "dream an impossible dream"

Utah fans are just happy that we have coach Whit. And happy that we win BCS games once in a few years.
Re:seriously BYU people | 11:41  | 12:13 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
...Utah could win the next 3 BCS titles while BYU was going winless...

not only whine, Kewger fans will remind us that they won NC first --way back to 1984, while cold war was still going on, people still listened to disco, Donny and Marie were still young...
Cougarf@n | 12:30 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
I second the 11:41am post. Talking smack doesn't have anything to do with inferiority.

For instance, when I congratulate KW for his fine season last year where he finally caught up to Crowton's amazing four year total of MWC championships, it's not because I feel inferior to ewe-tah. And when I respond to smack about my own team getting killed by FSU and TCU with a simple reminder that Utah keeps eeking by teams BYU crushed, it's definitely not inferiority.

In my view, KW and many on his coaching staff are just some of many BYU grads succeeding and making the world a better place.
re: Cougarf@n | 1:25 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Crowton? Really, a Gary Crowton reference? Lets not forget that both Urban Meyer and Kyle Whittingham have done something that BYU hasn't done in a quarter-century! And something no BYU coach has done, BCS.

Question. Do you think Donko and the BYU fans would trade in a 59-21 win over UNLV and a 54-28 loss @ LES to average FSU, for say a 35-15 win over UNLV and a 31-24 loss @ Oregon? Yeah, thought you would.

BYU will keep on beating up garbage teams, while getting whipped by good teams. To quote Dennis Green "The Cougars are who we thought they were!" You're right Denny, the Cougars have certainly shown us the last 12 months that they cannot even compete with good teams!
Re: Cougarf@n | 12:30 p.m.  | 1:47 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
"In my view, KW and many on his coaching staff are just some of many BYU grads succeeding and making the world a better place."

Right. But what you refuse to acknowledge or admit even to yourself is that Coach Whittingham would rather beat the stuffing out of BYU than work for them.

btw...BYU grads are not the only people who succeed and help make this world a better place. If you truly believe they are then I truly feel sorry for you.
Some things never change | 2:49 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
The last 15 comments continue to prove the point. Utah fans are not Utah fans-they are BYU haters.

When you have to give FREE tickets to all your students just to fill up a 45,000 seat stadium, you are NOT a big time program. Keep playing Yewts.

Anonymous | 3:38 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Last time I checked, a "big program" isn't measured by how many people are in the stadium but by their wins and rankings.

Utah
2008 13-0 #2 in the nation
2009 7-1 #14 in the nation

BYU
2008 10-3 #25 in the nation
2009 6-2 not ranked

Who has the "big program" now? I'd say Utah does.
reality check | 4:18 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
The IQ of BYU fans posting is dropping faster than their National ranking. No wonder Bronco is frustrated with his fans. Wyoming is now BYU's bowl game. Whit is a genuinely great human being who wins football games and makes young men better mentally, physically, spiritually. Glad to see kids I coached grow up under Whit. He's been a great mentor.
re: Some things never change | 4:30 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
You forgot something on the end.

"Keep playing Yewts, and winning every week! Try not to stumble and get beat by 30 at home, to an average ACC team."

There, I dropped the truth in for you.

Cougarf@n | 4:37 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Re: 1:25: The BCS hasn't existed for a quarter of a century so your point is irrelevant. Also, I thought Yewt fans could't remember anything before Urban. Yewt Football, a tradition since 2004. Would I trade the FSU loss for a much more respectable loss to Oregon? Absolutely. But I wouldn't trade the OU win for anything Utah has done (or will do) this year.

Re: 12:30pm: I can accept that K-Whitt turned BYU down for nearly twice as much money from Utah where he doesn't have to deal with the recruiting limitations from the HC. Don't get me wrong, I love BYU football, but I would have probably done the same thing. I'll sign up to work for the UofU right now for an extra $250K a year. Who wouldn't?

As for beating the stuffing out of BYU, he's 2-2 against BYU (soon to be 2-3) so if he took the Yewt job just to beat down BYU, then his job satisfaction must be in the toilet.
Don't forget | 4:41 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Urban took over and took the Utes to the National stage Whit came in and did it again. Much easier to take a garbage team and get them to beat average teams than it is to take a perfect team and rebuild them to perfection AGAIN. I hear how hard it is for a team to go undefeated and the Utes have done it twice. Mean while he has done it with all the same "tradition, excellence and honor" as TDS. Utah has two coach of the year awards in the last decade, now that is a great program!
Ethor | 5:22 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
All I know is that I absolutely love Utah Football. Is BYU a good overall football program? Absolutely, the problem is the coaching staff. Bronco shows no emotion what so ever, he is like a robot. He truly lacks the talent to fire up his boys for big games. BYU has a ton of talent, just not great coaching in my opinion. Urban was a great coach for Utah. I always laughed when you could read his lips dropping the f-bomb on tv at his players. I really hope coach Whit stays for a while. He is a stud. Very excited to see Wynn in action.

RE: Some Things Never Change | 8:19 p.m. Nov. 5, 2009
Once again quantity over substance. Your right...the UTES give their students free tickets and guess what??? THEY STAY til the end!! Unlike the FULL LES of 65,000 that was a ghost town in the 4th quarter of the TCU game. Big margins of victory and a full stadium @ the start of the game STILL hasn't won the BIG GAME for ya! So keep focusing on all the other non important stuff and we'll keep winning football games any which way we can including the BIG games! GO UTES!!!

all the comments about BYU and Utah on an article about the acomplishments of Coach wittingham, amazing. congradulations coach Witt. You are a credit to your family, faith and school. As long as Kyle is at the U, look for continued success.
thankscoach | 12:22 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009
Although the students may get "free" tickets they pay for that right in their student fees. And let's not forget about the MUSS, which I truly believe is one of the best student sections in the nation and of whom Coach Whit treats as part of the team and acknowledges their presence respectfully and gratefully (unlike the TDS coach who calls his own fans including the students unintelligent) LOVE Coach Whit and glad he's at the U!
Group hug, anyone? | 3:27 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009
I have been watching/participating in the Utah/BYU rivalry for over 25 years. I know that football isn't very important in the grand scheme of things, but my heart and gut tell me otherwise. In fact, as I grow older (and hopefully wiser), football strangely keeps getting more important to me. Go figure.

I doubt I am the only one posting comments that has actually gone to both schools - I have degrees from both. BYU had the opportunity to win me over. I was there during their glory days, but Utah has ALWAYS been my team.

All that being said, I try to speak with reason, not emotion:

The balance of power between Utah, based on conference championships, head to head wins, bowl games, and wins against quality opponents, changed in the mid-90s, on Coach McBride's watch. Yes, BYU has had very good seasons since then (and will again), but Utah's body of work is more impressive over the last 15 years that BYU's. The numbers don't lie.

I want it all - bowl (preferrably BCS) wins, wins against quality OOC opponents, conference championships, and wins over BYU - in that order.

Just my opinion.....
To sum up... | 10:07 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009

Coach Whit is:
1) a classy person
2) an excellent coach
3) first choice of BYU in its search for football coach
4) wise man for choosing Utah instead

Coach Whit is doing a great job! I was at the U during the Stobart/Fassel years, when the cup was sometimes a little less than half full.

I am with "30 years"... I bleed RED always, but I hope the Coogies do well (except the rivalry game). It's best to see my UTES and the MWC beat up on BCS teams. I still razz my Bama coworkers about getting throttled by the UTES in NO.

GO UTES!!!!!
Texas Ute | 7:06 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009
This year has been better than expected, but some wins have come with too much effort. Last year it was unbelievable. I travel the world being in the oil patch. Believe it or not, I was asked in Amsterdam last year if the Utes were still undefeated. Talk about notoriety! This does not happen without talent on the field and in the coaching staff. Utah has done well with coach Kyle. It certainly has not hurt to have TCU and BYU doing well to promote the need to continually improve.
