....let's eliminate the health claims that the unregulated "food supplement" industry makes.

There's no bigger hoax, than companies who claim that something that tastes strong (dark fruit, anyone) is more healthful -- and that their "supplement" has special powers.

Are American kids taught any nutrition in high school? Do they not learn how to read labels to determine if the ingredients are healthful?

Seriously, anyone who thinks potato chips or Fruit Loops are good for you can't have much of an education beyond the second grade.

Why do we not promote better customer protection regulation in this country to forbid companies from tricking people or even expressly lying to customers? The European Union has come down hard on companies that do this kind of thing. Package labeling in most of Europe is far superior to that in the US. Most people there are also taught about nutrition and the society discourages unhealthful eating. They also live longer, have lower medical costs and are healthier too. Coincidence?

I avoid processed foods that make health benefit claims. These are deceptive business practices and should be banned. It's not nice to fool Mother Nature.
