I like Ancestry and use it all the time. My understanding is that the church sold its portion of ownership more than a year ago. If that's true, I wonder how much was lost. I know its not about "the money" with the church and its sell of intellectual property, but, who really paid for alot of the intellectual property that was garnered in Ancestry's and MyFamily.com's Online and Offline Servers.. . .. Most of it was paid for through tithing to the many professional MicroFichers the church hired to go around the world to get the information in foreign countries, to Diocees and Towns and Cities around the globe.

We all need hobbies. I used to read this stuff. Then, I realized two things. One; I was making a big assumption that no one lied about who really conceived babies. I know human nature better than that. We only carry half the genes of any parent. After ten generations you have little in common with someone.

"I realized two things. One; I was making a big assumption that no one lied about who really conceived babies." What? Are you kidding me? Do you even understand how census taking worked many years ago? That is not only a ridiculous comment, but it reveals you have underlying resentments about something else that you are attempting to justify. I corroborate sometimes two or three sources of information to insure accuracy. Lastly, the point is not how much you have in common with someone ten generations ago. The point is that they are still your family. Whether LDS or not, many people would like to know where their roots stem from.

because Ancestry will be losing a lot of its customer base as its price keeps going up while more and more free data becomes available from other websites. For example, the Church's Familysearch is adding free original records at an amazing rate.
