What a bad idea and complete waste of tax payer dollars. Sure wish I could afford to remodel my office or home in this obama economy!!!

Didn't anyone read the ballot?! It said they can bond $221 Million for this project. It is just $100 Million more than what they said they needed.

The valley already has an EOC. The valley already has a police training center. The valley already has a place for the fire department to train at.

SLC is the most bloated and needlessly taxed city in the state.

Can anyone answer why $221 million? Are we paying $100 million in interest over 21 years? Isn't there a better way to fund this?

Apparantly there is not a recession in this valley or city. Maybe they can house the homeless there.

The county should have planned for this in there budget years/decades ago knowing the building had issues and was falling apart.

No where in a private business does this kind of thing happen. This kind of thing is a common occurance, making people/communities feel sorry for a public servant because some other offical or officals are corrupt and don't bugdet the peoples money where is should go instead of padding personal interests projects.

Just wondering the percentage of voter turnout to population count is required legally to pass this bond. At a total of 18, 911 as reported 2-1, I'm kind of doubting it's the minimum required votes.

Sure enough, the gullible sheep fell for the "water leakage on police evidence" and "officers trapped in broken elevators" propaganda.

Of course it was propaganda. The leaks could have been fixed, and a brand new elevator system could have been retrofitted into the building's existing elevator shaft - and for a tiny fraction of the cost of a new building.

But they didn't want to do these things.

I am especially disappointed given Chief Burbank's solemn refusal to enforce immigration law.

I know that this is a hard thing but the need is evident. Congratulations on winning the vote for proposition 1. I am thankful to all of those men and women who make sacrifices daily to keep our community safe. Even though you don't hear it often enough; thank you for all that you do for us in the city.

Fine by me, as long as first they start enforcing the rules on motorists who endanger bicyclists.

I hope when this new building is designed, the overwhelming guiding principal is functional use, and NOT to include big fancy lobbies, atriums, and palatial feel. As a member of the tax base let me be clear: LESS IS MORE! I do not want a trophy building to “enhance” the downtown scene. Public funds should build simple, tasteful, functional buildings. Let private money build the beautiful design & appeal buildings.

Thank heavens that most people in our great city are not like the people who comment on the Deseret News. Your precious personal property wouldn't exist without the state and city governments who allow that to happen. When the owners of huge houses in the south valley start to realize this, maybe our police will actually get the facilities they deserve.

Sorry "Phil at 8:56" the city basically has been given a blank check (221 million?) I'm sure they'll do ANYTHING THEY WANT with that money. Picture HUGE offices (especialy for the Chief)and Captains and Lieutenants.
The voters in SLC just handed a big victory to the illegals. We really gave tacit, if not outright approval to the Mayor and the Police Chiefs' position regarding illegal aliens.

Good luck SLC residents (legal ones), you're gonna need it!

...all you gripers should spend more time finding out facts, and less time spouting baseless propaganda.

Immigration laws are being enforced....the Salt Lake County Jail evaluates each person booked into jail. Those who cause problems and aren't here legally are being dealt with, no reason for more money to be spent on the issue. (And, for the record, other than the jail deputies, SL County, WVC, SSL, UHP etc etc etc are not participating in the immigration bill...odd how many just like to pick out SLC)

As for the building, talk to those who work in it, they couldn't care less about fancy things or how it looks from the outside, they just want a building that actually is built to be a police station.

They want a building where victims and suspects can be separated, where evidence doesn't risk being damaged. The current building could have never been fixed.....because city officials 20+ years ago made the mistake of trying to retrofit an old building. Thankfully this administration has learned from that mistake.
