Good for them, for spending resources on getting rid of the actually dangerous undocumented immigrants.
Now if we can actually get ICE to do that too, instead of arresting the harmless undocumented immigrants (including LDS missionaries).

The Voice of Reason

The Deseret News position makes so much sense.

Those who are hard working, who would make good citizens, keep them here. Their being here not only helps us fill jobs otherwise hard to fill, but them being here helps create employment.

These people buy cars, eat groceries, rent apartments and buy houses. Providing all these things creates jobs for other people.

Last I checked, Americans aren't the ones following the crops around to pick them, slaughter houses can't rely on Americans to stay there and get up to speed, bacause Americans have higher aspirations and there is nothing wrong with that.

But our country can't all be rocket scientists, we need people to do the down and dirty jobs too. Keep those who want to work and be good people and deport the gang members.

Explain this if you can

I don't get it, how is allowing those who would be good citizens, to stay here amnesty, if they pay a fine for crossing the border?

It is also amnesty when a cop gives someone a ticket for speeding?

Well

at least it's a start.

The real problem

with this approach is that the undesirables are identified and removed only after the harm is already done.

The immigration system is supposed to screen out those who don't belong here before they murder, deal drugs, rape, molest, steal, etc. Waiting until after they commit their crimes only creates victims - many of them your coworkers, friends, neighbors, and relatives.

Crossing the border illegally is a crime, as is not paying payroll taxes, stealing SSNs, etc.

Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime.

If immigration quotas are increased, then there would be no need to cross the border illegally and we would have a better handle on who we let in.

I say let in the best, get rid of the rest.

DN, Please stop using the PC term "undocumented," when you know very well you are referring to people who entered our country illegially. Are you afraid to define them as "illegal aliens," because the term itself doesn't support your opinion?

I don't care who these people are. If they entered our country by illegal means, then they butted in line in front of those trying to comply with our immigration rules--and that is what is UNFAIR!!!

How fair is it to the hundreds of thousands of LEGAL immigrants who waited years, paid thousands of $, learned English, stayed off public assistance while accomplishing all the steps necessary to become LEGAL citizens?

How about if I bring hundreds of boatloads of illegals from, say Indonesia, or how about India? If we are going to allow ANY AND ALL from central america, why have any immigrant quotas at all?
Why can't the apologists for illegal aliens understand that in a civilized society such as ours we may not like the laws but we have agreed to live by them. Its embarassing to see laws and their enforcement become political!

The complex point is that many (if not most) undocumented immigrants or illegal immigrants or illegal aliens contribute to our society. The goal of the strike force is to get rid of the ones that aren't. I urge legislators and the powers that be to make this a permanently funded task force.

Ohh

Wow they even confiscated dental tools.
